im 18 and secret of monkey island 1992 was the first game i ever played before i even knew how to read and melee island was the most memorable because i spent a lot of time trying to figure out what i was doing because i couldn't read the text but i eventually did beat the game and it also helped me get better at reading before i started kindergarten
I am so hopefull for this! SoT was made for this crossover, almost more so than Pirates of Caribbean. Fingers crossed for insult sword fighting instead of actual sword fights. You fight like a Dairy farmer!
I happy for it but I feel if it leans to heavily into the MI aspect it will kinda ruin the lore for me I wouldn't take flameheart or anything seriously if there's a guy who talks about loom or a rubber chicken store exists but then again this is coming from someone who likes lore and stuff
I grew up with Monkey Island 1 + 2 and I'm currently playing Return to Monkey Island. I wanted more of this since I first discovered the Monkey Island easter egg in A Pirate's Life. The music theme alone gives me a nice warm feeling. This crossover is the greatest SoT update even for me. 🙂
I'm not really sure if I knew the game in my childhood but the announcement made me take a look into it and it's nice to already see the references! besides that I appreciate any content like that because it's really outstanding compared to the everyday SoT experience, even if it won't take too long. I just wish the 3 tall tales would be released at once

Okay so like, I may have a good or bad idea: Because ziplines were clearly a focus point, maybe it'd be cool to be able to have a harpoon atop the crow's nest so that you could harpoon a surface and use it to traverse over to wherever it lands. I think this would be helpful for players in both PVP and PVE, and traversing some islands with mountains on them could be made easier to specific points without having to rely on potentially missing with a cannon shot, and for PVP players it could mean the difference in terms of boarding a ship with a riskier method or keeping up with enemy crews. This is also a long-shot theory, but they clearly had a paper with Guybrush's name and profile on it. While it's clearly not one of those bounty-like posters, maaaaaybe they could be teasing something like that coming to the game? A lot of people have wanted player bounties for a while, and while I don't think this is going to result in that, I'd love to be wrong. I think there's a lot of potential here, but I suppose we're gonna have to wait and see exactly what we'll get.
Those are definitely good ideas, with them removing buggy boarding methods like harpoon and cannon boards they might be preparing to flip the table on the pvp meta and I'm all for it!
Blurbs I don't think you realize this is nectar for the soul of people who grew up with Monkey Island. It's worth it even if instead of introducing Monkey Island players to Sea of Thieves it introduces Sea of Thieves players to Monkey Island.

I must have spent close to 200 hours playing Monkey Island 2 as a kid. It came out in 1991 when I was 9. I'm now 40 and still play it from time to time on Steam. God, time flies. I still think I'm in my 20s.
Yeah, although potc crossover update did add quite a lot of long term content as well, and the third tall tale of monkey island is set to come out around the same time as season 10, so there is a chance they are related after all!
The PIrates of the Caribbean tall tale felt more like an epic grand thing you go on with your5 friends to experience the "wow" factor of a huge story with Jack Sparrow! The Monkey Island TT felt more "comfortable" it being only 3 chapters made it feel more approachable. Certainly it felt more like a cozy little adventure you can knock back in an hour or two instead of this multi hour epic. Paired with the smooth, almost "atmospheric" renditions of the music and Melee Island was fun to explore.
I think John Bardcore speculated that Briggsy is actually one of the female characters from monkey island if I remember correctly. And here we go, a monkey island crossover. Seems all but confirmed!
Except that the Monkey Island character that he thought became Briggsy is in the trailer as her normal self from Monkey Island. I was hoping it was true, but it's cool to get her nonetheless

Unlike Sparrow, Monkey Island actually fits the game and its setting. If you played the Pirate's Life tall tales with the branding removed, I seriously doubt you would have any strong opinions about them. They're fine. They're better than the first batch, but they only stand out because they have serious branding in them. The branding is good for bringing in new players, but if you want to make the best content possible, you need the new content to support and be supported by the setting and mechanics of the rest of the game. The art style and humor of Monkey Island does that much better than the live action Disney's Johnny Depp of the Hi I'm Johnny Depp Doing a Character for 20 Years. The reason you contextualize the IP in the crossover as an afterthought whose only function is to get people to buy the game is because that's all Disney's Enter the Sparrowverse was capable of, whereas Monkey Island has the potential to make great content that could only be made with the Monkey Island IP.

I remember I played the game and loved it but did not understand how to play at all, I also don’t remember getting far but I still really enjoyed it so I’m excited for this update
Its like bolting a fancy spoiler onto a worn out car. At this point, we need some work on the car as its falling apart. Lets see some new weapons and mechanics - like the storage chest change that was put in and still improves gameplay today. In fact, lets see anything that is part of the base game loop, because as it stands....its done and thats a real waste of potential. Dagger, boarding axe - bring the melee weapon total to three to match the ranged. Also, lets have reaper rowboats back.
Im gonna say it, i think if the island will only be possible to enter through a portal it will be located on the locked off floor in the taverns due to the lack or any sign of possible building outside the outposts
I have no idea what monkey island is and I was really hoping for Peter Pan Bc it’s a story I know. None of these characters mean anything to me and I’m 22. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed but will reserve final judgment until I play it.
The game needs to be worked on for sure, and servers need to become more stable, It shouldn’t take 4 sword swings and a snipe that’s a back track to kill someone, or losing a fight due to black screens or mermaids that spawn a mile away from you. We 100% need new mechanics as well and it needs to be a bit more than just zip lines even tho zip lines seem like they could be fun to use.

Funny thing is I've never played the games on my own. I always played it together with my father who already had finished the games so many times before but he never got bored of them. I can remember so many characters and found the games really exciting and funny of course. Really a hidden gem of a series like many other point and click adventures like Simon the Sorcerer.
