Her Vissi d'Arte is exquisite! Truly superb!

Trouble is coming. You can hear it in this performance. Fortunately she eventually surmounted to a certain extent this crisis & continued her stunning work well into the 1990s. But it was never quite the same if one remembers the beauty in her singing from the mid 1960s till about a year before this performance here. Too much Wagner & too soon? I am not sure of the reasons but exhaustion & too many heavy roles within a short time is perhaps the reason. True, she still has some good moments in this performance but the uneven production will become more problematic. Her considerable gifts as an actress & her sheer remarkable stage presence were fortunately a constant compensation for whatever vocal difficulties she had to deal with.
Gosh she is really stunning here -(just listen to that top C 1:29:50) and we even get some chest voice.
This makes up for all the bad performances I ever heard with her ❣
