In all honesty, the exocraft chunk of the game could need a revamp. The minotaur is extremely good at resource gathering (even in extreme weather, that's one of its selling points), fighting and agility, while the other exocraft are either good explorers/travelers or not useful at all. I would love to see each exocraft have dedicated modules giving it at specialized use where they are really good at. (Wish the colossus had a bit more than just a big storage) Also the way you need to either build the summoning bay or have your freighter in the same system at all time makes them bothersome to use. Wish we could just spawn them anywhere needed, or that the needed module to spawn them would be part of our ship. Also no way to use the scanner visor with them, you need to unmount/get back on them each time you need to have a look when you're searching for something. :( It break the initial use of them being fast transportation.
The summoning bay can be picked up and added to the Exosuit cargo. It wouldn't be good to make it a starship module IMO because using it is good for returning to a stranded ship.
I usually use the summoning bay, spawn my exo vehicle and after it, just dismantle my summoning bay and store it in my inventory. Since we can do it whenever we want, I really don't see why we need to use the summoning bay. Just make it possible to spawn any vehicle whenever we want.
My personal favourite is the collosus, just shouts out power and inventory space, I love using it on low-gravity planets and the general aesthetic is just badass
I have never found a use for any of the exocraft. They may have been more useful when the game was much earlier in it's release, but not so much now. I have so many inventory spaces, since you can get one from each new station you visit, and you can summon the anomaly to each new system to get one from there, too. I make a bunch of bread, which gives the 8 second boost to the jetpack, and you can eat them over and over and over again. refined flour+yeast=dough, then cook the dough to make, so super simple. Using the melee movement boost on a hill, I can traverse around 250 units, or more, per bread boost. Depends on planet gravity.
Its really useful for getting extreme planet survival advancements, since you can stay inside one of those indefinitely and timer is still ticks, you only need environment protection upgrade for that type of planet you currently on. Technically any cave will do too, but you can go insane sitting 50 sols in a cave doing nothing, while in exocraft you can at least roam around collecting resources. Also it doesnt work for nautilon and minotaur, since those have 100% environment protection by default and game doesn't count staying inside of those as "survival" for the purpose of the advancement.
@@dmitriyrasskazov8858 I have 3 s-class hazard protection modules for each of the hazards. I get batteries for free from many of the factions, because of rank, when I visit space stations. I have no need for these
I like the giant sand crawler looking one. It's definitely a harvester. If I remember correctly, the laser can be upgraded to bore into the ground. That laser also does a good job of killing wildlife and sentinals.
Absolutely worth it! A Roamer with radar and the two upgrades is the best way to find monoliths, depots, abandoned buildings, etc. If you have a freighter with the exocraft materializer, that’s even better.
I use the Roamer the most, and find it an essential vehicle early game. You get it free with the Base Computer quest series -- so it's a no-brainer for me. And the fact that it helps you locate things like plants, storm crystals, and dissonant resonators with ease -- makes it an absolute must-have item. The Nautilon is my next most used vehicle, as it is the only submarine. After that, the Minotaur comes in third (for me).
To my mind,, the Nomad is the most useful of the lot - it travels fast in any terrain, including on water surfaces. The Nautilon is fine for going deep, but is painfully slow otherwise - I can SWIM faster. The ground vehicles have their good points, but there is one aspect in which they all fall down - they cannot swim, just slowly plow along on the ocean floor, and that is arguably the most rugged terrain in the game. Of these, I like the Colossus best, for its inventory space - practically a mobile base. :)
Quite a few people have mentioned the Nomad as there favorite, it's between that and the Minotaur which people also mention they use underwater - I've never tried personally.
@@CasterPenn Minotaur is groovy if you just want to stomp around and be bad-@$$. Unless it's on a low-G airless world (where the Jump Jets work BEAUTIFULLY) definitely *not* my choice for an overland trip.
Frankly, I got sick of driving into caves so I pretty much use my exo-crafts as additional storage. The on exception is the Nomad. I know you cant add slots but still it helps. Also as an additional storage I took two haulers and maxed their slots out at 120 each. But exo-crafts aren't worth much on most worlds because of the terrain,
My favourites are the pilgrim (bike), mech suit and the mini submarine. The pilgrim is quite fast so I use it if I'm gathering materials that are typically spread across the planet, like buried technology, and just to get around fast. The mech suit is my second favourite because it attacks enemies for me, and it has a mining bore so you can mine things like copper, which is especially good if you're on an extreme weather planet, so you don't need to worry about your hazard suit while you're mining resource deposits. The mini submarine is my third favourite because it is superior to the nomad in water traversal, it's actually faster even though there isn't a boost button, and it's a lot more convenient just using it to collect underwater materials. I use the collosus and the car for storage space.
The more I use the pilgrim, the more I like it. Nautilon is kinda definite because it's the only one which can go underwater and harvest underwater materials. Mech is great, and I agree with you on the uses. I find myself going back to the Roamer, I find it fun to drive around when fully upgraded. Thanks for the comment 🙂.
@@CasterPenn No problem. Btw if you don't know, with max upgrades for the pilgrim you can keep spamming boost to travel faster. It stays between 35-40 units per second when spamming the boost button. Holding it is much less efficient.
Nomad is fast and especially good to skim over vast bodies of water. You could go faster with the ship ofc, but if you're going to use a starship to explore a planet... see the problem there? The exocrafts add to the immersion of planet exploration but I'll agree most of them could do with a revamp. Controls are also a bit wonky, they should be simpler and straightforward like it is to control your character.
i only play in VR and usually use the Nomad and the Exo Mech as well as the Nautilon underwater. The Nomad is great, since it also can drive on water. Since every other exocraft does similar things in terms of mining, storage and cannon i don't see the point of using them for me personally. The Exo Mech however is a different beast, since it can jump huge leaps, once it's fully upgraded. I wish the other exocrafts would be more special, so e.g. you can only do certain missing using the colossus and not only for more storage space and better mining.
Yeah vr here too. Don’t use any of them much but I find them a pain to control. Mostly just set the mech on ai mode and summon it if I’m goin to a fight.
@@poodytanx8611 yes, it's not that easy, but i got used to the controls. I also often use the mech as a battle assistant, but it's also very useful in uneven terrains. I usually push the left stick all the way forward and then do long jumps. That's pretty amazing in VR.
if theres 1 thing id add in no man sky is making some planets so dangerous the only way to move about without dying in like a second(if you are fast enough you could keep refuelling it so that prevents it) and whole water planets (could revamp the water and its animals as well as its depth)
Totally agree. Maybe the only way to get around a very very dangerous planet is to have the upgrades in an Exocraft to protect you. Water worlds with deep oceans would be fantastic, with deep sea titanic creatures to find, and fight etc. Hopefully this will be in Worlds Part 2 Update! - and better caves systems.
@@CasterPenn i feel like the upgrades are basically pointless since the mech is immune to it all its not as fast but id rather pretend im playing titanfall tbh
I prefer the Nomad, only slightly slower than the Pilgrim and the only amphibious exocraft. If a newbie player is only upgrading exo to start, I recommend that one
I’m a bit of a explorer and I use the Nomad and Nautilon the most. The Minotaur gets some use but only as a extra gun in fights as my multitool honestly hits much harder and faster.
I was doing a battle with Sentinals while driving a fully decked out Minotaur where I was on a small mound with a clear view in all directions. They never got close enough to even start shooting at me. I could hit them as soon as they spawned in. The A.I. controlled Minotaur is pretty weak, but it does a passable job as a battle vehicle in the right situations. I will generally use it if I'm caught up in a fight during a storm. A decked out multitool does have the best damage though.
I tried upgrading the speed on most, still kinda slow. Some are great for clearing landscape as bulldozers. Mainly use the Minotaur in Sentinel land fights !
not sure how fast it is relative to a roaver but all i do if i need to get somewhere that doesn't require a ship is just summon my "titan" worm(basically i max sized the original egg)
The only Exocraft i really occasionally use are the AI Minotaur and the Nautilon! The others are just extra storage The Sentinel Pet is cool but annoying!
I actually like all of them tbh. The Minotaur is my bodyguard/lacky that carries all my stuff on planet roaming. But that tech, like all the exocrafts are awesome for extreme storms.
This is my first time playing NMS and I have come across a problem I can't seem to figure out. Here's my question: where do you find the flame thrower for the Minotaur? I purchased the S class flame thrower upgrade thinking that the flame thrower module would be on the anomaly but its not. Do you have any idea how to get it?
@NicoISD you have to complete Expedition 14: Liquidators and get the optional milestones. The Liquidator upgrades are the rewards. You collect rewards at the Quicksilver Companion in the Anomaly.

Nomad is great on mountainous planets. It doesn’t tumble down the steep hills and can go almost straight up.
