been plumbing for 20 years and i never knew that thanks, my top tip, always keep an old liquid soap pump on the van, the amount of times its come in wonders to get water out of a pipe before soldering
I'm so going to have to try that! Never knew. Cheers Mark! And as for going on to normal isos, yep do it exactly the same, just don't over tighten like you said. Great content as always mate!
Well I've been a plumber for 47 years and you've taught me little trick I didnt know. Good video. As for connecting the tails directly onto the isolation valves, I always file the sharp edges flat to protect the washer.
Well watched this the other day. Got two bathroom monobloc taps to do today. Both cupboard units. Tried this on both ceramic sinks and worked a treat. One tap had two bolts and still worked. Absolutely made up mate. Made it an easy job. Can't thank you enough for sharing that. And after 20years of struggling. 😊
The kitchen tap hack is going to be a game changer for me , I must have fitted hundreds of taps over the years fitting kitchens , thank you sir that will change my life for the better , well done keep up the good work ..
I have been plumbing for about 55 years now, things have changed but that is the best tap hack ever, i have spent many hours try to fit taps like that one and wow what a difference that makes, thanks, keep up the good work
OMG... Great hack! Didn't know that. The time I have spent faffing around under a sink unit trying to get the brass nut on and the rubber washer in the correct position. I'm loving that! Cheers Mark. As always great vid. Take care mate.
Been plumbing since I was 15 and I’m 73 now. Fitted a mono block tap today and tried this hack. Went straight in. Fantastic. You have saved my blood pressure. Cheers Mark.
Genius !! Number of times I’ve Been under a sink swearing and dropping the nut as I try and hold everything up!! Can’t wait to fit my next kitchen tap!!
Thanks for that, Mark. That trick with the monobloc is bound to save somebody a few swearwords before the week is out. Those non-branded shower units are always a bit of a gamble: yes, you save upfront but then the odds of getting a replacement cartridge in a few years' time, when the local water has done its usual trick and knackered the seals, are not all that great.
Thanks mj for sharing the tap install,I'm 65 and have been a plumber since the age of 16 ( 4 year apprenticeship) its something I had not known! THANKS MATE . I have a plumbing method we're I use a black rubble sack to drain any excess water down under a sink or especially a radiator or tucking a rubble sack into a boiler so as to prevent that excess water finding itself onto the printed circuit board .its got to be a rubble sack not a bin liner as they have perforated holes.you can even place a rubble sack into a cistern or tank ShushWater finds its on level. Try it some times you cannot get a small ice cream container in under .ETC. KEEP THE GOOD WORK UP
All you need to do with the ballofix valve is, file the face of the thread flat just to take the sharp edge off, then you can safely fit the flexi, done it loads of times, no issues (as you say)
Was amazed to see this video pop up when I was about to replace our dripping mono bloc kitchen tap today. Unfortunately could not get the horse shoe bracket through so had to resort to the old under sink method. On watching your video again I think the reason was the horse shoe bracket had only a small opening. Looking at replacement fixing kits they appear to have a much wider opening ( less of a ring) so next time will hopefully work with a wider opening bracket so less bracket to feed through the hole.
I knew that, but forgot about it as its something as a Diy'er I don't do that often😂. Thanks for reminding us, and being an honest bloke helping Joe average❤
A lot of plumbers work on their own, so they rarely get to work with others who can share their little tricks with one another. That's why UA-cam is a fantastic resource to learn and improve your methods. Now as for the installation of the lock shields. If , like in this job, you are connecting flexi's with a rubber hose - I always used to (retired now) flatten the sharp edge off by putting some 400 grit emery cloth on a flat surface (usually the worktop) and carefully pulling and pushing the lock shield back and forth. This gets rid of the sharp edge (designed for compression) pretty effectively and gives a nice flat surface to the valve for the rubber washer to face onto. I know you can get away with not doing it, but bare in mind the sharp edge will cut into the rubber washer and shorten its life span. It's just a few more minutes work and I think, worth it. As for the trap in the sink trick - yes, of course i've done it ! I've even turned the blood tap on to clean the trap if it's manked up !! Best thing is to put it in the bucket or basin ! Good video and I miss the work.
Well that's a nice little trick for the kitchen faucet. I've been lucky so far that I've got long arms and can reach to assemble this, but now this can go in my box of tricks.
i watch these type videos now and then and have picked up nothing i do not already know. (plumbing for 30 years!! ) up until that kitchen tap hack!!!! cheers pal
Great vid, if you’d disconnected the copper straight connector to the tap, you’d have been able to unscrew that tail from the pipe, making it simple to lift out the old tap..
Thanks for showing us that trick. I never knew you could do that the amount of times I tried fiddling put those plates on. Thanks again for showing us I was amazed
Good tip - I'll try the sink tap fix next time. But for most thin metal sinks there is a plastic bracing washer to give the tape more stability so that cannot go through the hole!! Also when the tap is mounted in the worktop its under the sink I go!!
Obviously the bracing bracket (if needed) won’t go through the whole…… it wasn’t needed on this sink as you can see. And to be honest most new stainless steel sinks are a lot stronger…. It’s the cheap ones that flex that you must of fitted to need the brace Richard.
Shower valve could be an issue when it needs replacing in a few years time might be hard to get hold off, if I was him purchase a valve now as a spare could save a lot of agrow taking tiles off the wall and replacing the whole unit, dont know who done his tileing but he needs to come round and finish it off, grouting is tearable. Great video and like the top tip regarding sink tap.
Thank you. Have spent ages trying to get taps connected. Funny. I go to change taps arrange day and time. Customers seem never to make space under their sinks!
Hi Gary from the UK here just wanted to say Great video very interesting and informative, I'm an old heating engineer and I think it was a great tip for the kitchen sink trap, they were always a pain in the neck
Another great video mate. I was shown that trick on the first day on the job. Was taught by an old boy who seemed to just know everything even if it was a brand new product 🤯🤯🤯. I still flatter the tops of the iso on an grinder cos he was too tight to by flat face😂😂😂
Bro that was an amazing hack. I would never of thought of that. I fit so many kitchin sinks with working in a student accommodation building. I will definatly use this hack in the future. Thank you so much keep up the good work.
Top work again mark finding that brass shaving in the shower valve, how many would of just replaced the unit and yes Victoria plum a company I wouldn’t buy a tap washer from after there latest antics, they are not to be confused with Victoria plumbing who is a completely separate company
I am convinced Victorian plumbing deal in seconds. I bought a grohe pull out kitchen tap and the neck had 3 dents in it. I got a good price in the end but really had to haggle. I then bought a basin, unit and tap and the basin was faulty resulting in me having to cut a massive hole in the unit top to take the base instead of just a hole for the waste. The tap also spurted over the basin when it was on. 😂
Hi Mark, a great jobbing film, very enjoyable, well done with the shower valve, a top bit of detective work there. I don’t remember ever seeing the flapper valve in the toilet cistern before, I am getting old and my memory is not as good these days. Sweet solution with the tap. Did one 3 days ago, but the old tap had an additional wide foot underneath to spread the load and stop the sink flexing, so decided to reuse this. The hot flow is now worse than before. Are there removable filters in the flexi tails? Washing up is more annoying than usual !! 👍
Great tip, I always wondered why the c shaped washer. An even better tip though is get a Bristan easifit as the whole process is done from above (except connecting tails to house pipes)
I would NEVER EVER fit one of those things….. they need banning as they are a huge insurance claim waiting to happen. Not many people will touch them things
I had an issue with a gas combi not firing on demand for hot water. After scratching my head for a few hours, i had this hunch that it was a sensor in the boiler. After calling a gas engineer, he didn't solve the issue, even after i explained what it could be. So after sleeping on it, the next morning i took the sensor out, which is a paddle wheel that detects running water. There was a lump of brass swarf lodged in there. I removed it, and got it all back together and got lovely hot water. These issues can be a nightmare. By the way, i didn't know about the tap hack, thanks for making my life easier from here on in.
good info MJ, you know i swapped out 4 rads in bedrooms then find out a mate got a new job a while back as a rep at K-rad so could of got a good deal dam it, but I've got a new plan
Those ceramic cartridges can cost a bit to replace. A quality shower mixer started dripping after 2 years, so I bought a cartridge on ebay from China for $12, when it arrived they had put three in the package. Eight years later it is still working as new.
We were taught this over 30 years ago at the training college. So it's somewhat surprising to hear comments on here from plumbers saying that they didn't know this.
Haaa a tip I knew. 😂 What I need now is a tip for holding the tap in the correct orientation while I’m under the sink doing the dam thing up while on my own. 😂😂😂
Great tip. I was a sanager for a kitchen company in the 90's never knew that trick and never had a kit like that for undoing the back but. I made my own from box spanners. Sometimes I had no choice but to take the sink out just to change the taps.
Ive spent all my working life as a plumber even teaching it, but I've never seen this hack before 😂. Never keen on putting flexes on to service valves, prefer a male iron to copper compression fitting. Or, a chrome radiator tail 😮 Cheers..
I hope you invoiced for that Saturday call out. So the owner can send it to their supplier and the supplier can send it to the manufacturer/importer so they can lift their quality control on goods they are sending out.
Hi Mark. Thanks for that tip I never know that. Bet it was nice to do a few smaller jobs mate. Nice easy fix for a Saturday morning that was a lucky one. Have a good week 👍

Haaa a tip I knew. 😂 What I need now is a tip for holding the tap in the correct orientation while I’m under the sink doing the dam thing up while on my own. 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣….. when you find it let me know
Nice little jobbing video😊. They make a nice change of pace sometimes from the big jobs.
Totally mate, nice to have a few days jobbing about
Great tip. I was a sanager for a kitchen company in the 90's never knew that trick and never had a kit like that for undoing the back but. I made my own from box spanners. Sometimes I had no choice but to take the sink out just to change the taps.
Snagger 😮
Yep I’ve been known to do that aswell
Excellent will try that fitting taps this week. 👍
👍🏼👍🏼
50 years in the game and never knew that one 😂. As I'm getting older, that's going to make life easier when doing bits for family and friends.
Everyday is a school day
Great video, hard to fit guys as competent as you.
Thanks buddy 👍🏼👍🏼
Best plumbing hack ever thanks Mark
Your welcome 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Ive spent all my working life as a plumber even teaching it, but I've never seen this hack before 😂. Never keen on putting flexes on to service valves, prefer a male iron to copper compression fitting. Or, a chrome radiator tail 😮
Cheers..
Yep so many people didn’t know this little tip👍🏼👍🏼

I hope you invoiced for that Saturday call out.
So the owner can send it to their supplier and the supplier can send it to the manufacturer/importer so they can lift their quality control on goods they are sending out.
