Van is amazing. Started with - Them - Gloria, bright side of the road etc. the other great Northern Ireland / Ireland singer songwriter is Paul Brady. Check the cartoon vid of his old but totally relevant track / The Island. Love your reaction here in Oxford UK ❤👍🏽👍☘️
Let’s all climb aboard and sail “Into the Mystic” with Van. We’ll stop at “St. Dominic’s Cathedral” we’ll meet a “Brown Eyed Girl” named “Gloria” selling “Tupelo Honey” we can buy with “Blue Money.” “Have I Told You Lately,” there would be “Days like This,” “And It Stoned Me” Ahh, “These are the Days.” Great reaction to “Moondance.” I hear a foghorn blowing lol ❤😊
The consensus is that his Astral Weeks album is his coup de grace, but I think it’s Moondance, the album. For me Van sometimes starts to feel himself a bit too much, doing all kinds of vocal runs that apparently intend to show off his chops, but for me take away from the brilliance of the songwriting and playing. In this album he stays mostly throttled, and the results are sublime. Into the Mystic captures the feel of “just enough showmanship” for me.
Polo, you have just stumbled upon one of the top 100 albums of the last century!! Moondance is an album that you listen to the way your folks listened to music: grab a drink, a nice smoke, drop the needle on vinyl....sit back. Van is THE MAN.
I have to agree the Irish and English have given the world some of the greatest musicians, singers and bands in music history. Their contributions are second to no one! I would start listing them but it’s vast and I can only thank god that I was exposed to these great artists as a little kid in the late 60s ! I am still listening to this very day because those 60s and 70s artists set the bar sky high and nothing can touch it to this very day. Sadly , we will never get the quantity and quality of music that was produced in the 60s and 70s. Yes, there have been many great songs written after those 2 stellar decades but nothing will ever beat those 2 decades!
I love “And It Stoned Me” and also “These Are the Days” , “Brown Eyed Girl”and let’s not forget “Tupelo Honey” and many more!! Van is awesome. Thank you Polo for loving amd appreciating this awesome music!!
Van Morrison was one of the most influential artist of our era in the 60's and early 70's....his vocals.....his jazzy blues songs and instrumentation is genius. And even today you can hear his vocals or riffs in contemporary music today. One of my favorite artist of all-time right next to Stevie Wonder, Jackson Brown and David Bowie.
Queen of the Slipstream, Cleaning Windows, Real Real Gone, he has an amazing catalog. He is Sir Van, being knighted by the Queen. The sax is him and he plays many instruments as well. Seeing him live is a Treat. Been a Van Fan for a long time. Thanks
Cleaning Windows is the story of a gigging musician knocking out his day job with the same heart & soul, verve and vigor that he puts into his nighttime lounge act. It's infectious.
Been listening to Van The Man for 60 years now...since his days in the Irish band " them". His music ages like a fine wine...and appeals to every generation. It doesn't get old.
This is a masterpiece from a master craftsman. I’m one of the lucky people who got to see him. We drove a 10 hour road trip and we’d do it again if he ever tours America.
I saw him in Houston almost 10yrs ago. The concert itself was good. However I was disappointed that he had the venue stop selling alcohol during his set because he's a recovering alcoholic. Like.....don't put your issues on me man!
@@luciemurphree1597 Lucie, you made me giggle right out loud. Van has been known to be cantankerous, moody, and often times very late getting started. I read a long while back that he got in a heated scuffle with John Mellencamp. Another time he was pissed because he had to be the opening act for Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. He’s been known to walk off stage, if he shows up at all. What you mentioned about him cutting out the alcohol at his shows sounds pretty much in line with all his alleged prima donna behavior. Thanks for sharing.
@@stephenhanson3647 you are correct, thank you for the correction. As a long time fan I incorrectly assumed he played Sax on his songs when it appeared. I also looked at my copy the album 🙏
Van is an icon. Guy does everything from rock to gospel to blue to country and kills them all. The Belfast Cowboy. He's got dozens of major tracks. Tupelo Honey, Caravan, In the Garden, Domino, Celtic New Year, Cleaning Windows, the entire Astral Weeks album. Deep dive.
Hi Polo: I'm 74 yo guy and fan of what you cover and your reaction to it. Boom! Polo is real, genuine, relatable, open-minded, willing to learn, know where you came from, value your experiences, etc. You do a good job! Thanks....Ray 74 yo guy
For many of us who listened to rock on the radio, this was our first introduction to jazz. For me, it was the beginning of my love of jazz. Thank you Van!
This song can be compared to your favorite smoke and your favorite bourbon...however, you can enjoy this while driving the 4Runner with all the windows down in the cool evening breeze. Or all at the same time! Peace, my brother...
Years ago, I was coming home from evening college. I turned on my street and the moon was big in the sky at the end of my street and this came on the radio.
'Sir' Van has some all time classics you must listen to. Brown Eyed Girl, Tupalo Honey, Bright Side of the Road. Some of the greats everyone should hear.
I was lucky enough to buy Moondance as one of Columbia House 12 for a $ intro package. I was about 14 years old in 1971. That album blew my mind. I wore it out. Became a life long Van fan. That album, along with Who's Next, a couple of Moody Blues, a couple of Jethro Tull, some Uriah Heep, Elton John and James Taylor started the journey into absolutely awesome music. Thanks Van and the rest of the classic rockers for starting the journey.
I 100% agree with the Tupelo Honey recommendation. I do suggest reading about the context of the song beforehand to understand it completely. Great reaction Polo!
Polo, Big thumbs up for new studio set up. Love the minimalist look, dark background and the spotlight. Very 1970's overnight DJ at your favorite R&B station
not underrated at all!!! very famously recognized and listened to, just maybe not first choice of your own generation . genius.musician, quirky strange personality tho.
The first time I heard Van Morrison was in 1965, he was the lead singer of Them, and the song was Gloria, an absolute classic. There's no way to explain what that song meant in those days. Give it a listen sometime Polo, you won't regret it.
I love to see people's first reaction to this song. It's like hearing it again all over for the 1st time. Van Morrison brought (and horror movies) brought me and my hubby together. Celebrating 24yrs married this year!
Van (The Man) Morrison is a legendary music icon with a huge catalog of classic greats that are more than well worth anyones time to explore..An epic journey awaits you.
This has ALWAYS been my absolute favorite song. FOREVER. It’s all about an autumn night, leaves falling, full moon and dancing with your love. What’s not to love.
One of my absolute favorite love songs! It never, EVER gets old! YEARS ago, I made a "Love Songs" mix tape, with 22 songs. This song is the second song on the tape!!! 🥰😍🤩😘

I love how in many of Van's live concerts and recordings he calls out individual musicians to acknowledge their fantastic contributions. Sometimes they even do little solos.
I am glad you are listening to the music I had as a young teen. We had the best music. It was real music and is still better than anything else out there.😎
This song congers up images of dark jazz clubs with a small stage with a spotlight. The only other light coming from candles on little tables. Elegant and sexy.
Van is a world treasure. His funkiest song is Cleaning Windows. My favorite from him is St. Dominic's Preview. Jackie Wilson Said (I'm in Heaven When You Smile) is a banger and Have I Told You Lately is simply beautiful. that's just a few from his deep catalog, there is so much to explore, and all is exceptional.
Van the man... this whole album is amazing. My top 3 album of all time. I have several of his full live shows on digital download. They are so good it's ridiculous. Nobody improvises like Van. Nobody!!
My cousin bought this album for my brother when he turned 15 in 1970. Later that year I started highschool and spent a load of time at my friend Sue's house. We wore this album out playing it over and over. When I got to be middle aged and someone poured me a black sambucca I would need this song to dance to.
