    chemist here! i checked out the oils in the Rahua oil, and one is a oil made from the fruits of a palm tree that grows in the amazon (patauá oil), and the other is from the palo santo (holy wood) tree native to mexico-->peru/venezuela. the former is supposedly hair fortifying, and the essential oil from the latter contains LOTS of very nice smelling compounds. the patauá oil also is high in omega-9 fatty acids, which you can get from oilve oil!
    MY OPINION: try olive oil. might work just as well, and is MUCH cheaper.
    BTW dimethicone is just a silicone oil, and it improves hair shine and smooths texture. its not "all natural" since most siloxane polymers are synthesized at chemical plants, not extracted from natural sources, but its an alternative to other kinds of plant oils that are used for similar hair applications (i could literally go on for paragraphs about oil chemistry, but i'll spare you xP )

      I wish you would go on and on. I love hearing these things. It educates me and I like knowing what I put on my body. So thank you for what you did say. Maybe you should start a UA-cam channel talking about just these things, going product by product of our favorite items. Would that be legal? Don't know, but good idea if it is. Thanks again!

      Definitely agree about making a youtube channel. It's fairly easy to google an ingredient but you don't really know what ingredient would be similar or how they react together in a product. I am sure there are a lot of products that are put together in such a way the "active ingredients" don't even have a chance to do anything to whatever you're applying it on. If someone has the knowledge of chemistry they could possibly break down each ingredient to tell us exactly what they're doing!

    Tati, I know why your hair is so damaged. Sure, ironing it or curling it everyday doesn't help but the main point is that YOU USE OIL on your hair right before using heat! When you put oil in a pan, it fries. So when you put a crazy hot iron on oil-covered hair, of course it's going to fry. It's a big no-no! You should use your oils as oil-baths before your shampoo (let it sit for as long as you want/can) or as daily care but no more oil-before-iron.

      I've heard about this too! I try to heat style my hair as little as possible and only apply my oils when my hair is styled so it adds shine and moisture back into my hair. 👍👍

    • @ravishingruby77
      @ravishingruby77 8 років тому +165

      Kendi "oil" as most "oils" are predominantly silicone and therefore do not fry the hair. They serve as heat protection.

  • @cathyhopkinson865

    Tati, You should apply a leave in protectant prior to blow drying and absolutely before using a flat iron. All hair oils should be applied afterwards. Think of it like this, you place oil in a skillet and use it for frying. You place oil on your hair and apply a hot dryer and hot iron to it, you are essentially frying your hair. I'm a retired hair stylist and would have never suggested this to any of my clients. Thank you for your videos, I enjoy watching you and James together.

    Oil can smooth it out and nourish but once hair is broken... You can't physically repair it.... Only way to get rid of damage is cutting it off, sadly.
    I know, that sucks :/

    • @irazorn3712
      @irazorn3712 8 років тому +3

      All you're saying is absolutely true BUT coating it with oil and silicones can prevent breakage. But, yeah, I'm all for letting hair air dry. Having said that, I have very manageable and thick hair.

      yeah I know, it was badly phrased... I know it's mainly just keratin but you're right, one can nourish the scalp :D

    • @ettena93
      @ettena93 8 років тому +6

      Split ends can not be repaired, but protein masks can strengheten the "bonds" in the hair and build it up so it wont snap as easily. I have pin straight, naturally shiny hair, but it looks better if I take care of it. Once the hair reach a certain length the natural oils produced in the scalp won't be able to reach and coat the length of the hair, and you need to help it a bit along the way to make it look shiny. I stay away from silicones and sulphates, natural is the way to go. Expensive salon products with an ingredients list the length of my arm never did much for me.

      I wish I could put as little effort as you and Tati! Lol! If I were to blow my hair upside-down, I would literally have the biggest afro! I'm Mexican, so I shouldn't have an afro! Lol! And, it take me an hour to blow dry my hair with a round brush and my ends are completely frizzy until I run a flat iron through it. The flat iron doesn't take all the frizz out either! My hair is very thick and wirey. To put it into perspective, I can pull a hair out and use it as dental floss. I bet I would have to us at least 10-15 drops of this stuff to see a difference! But I could tell a difference with Tati's hair.

    Can I just point out how much I love you for what you said about the 'affordable alternatives': "It's still 25$ for a bottle of oil"
    Because its so true and something that like, EVERY beauty guru happens to forget these days: Most of viewers don't get send expensive stuff to try it, and a lot even struggle to buy what UA-camrs present as an affordable alternative. And this is kind of really the reason why you are my favorite, you really don't seem stuck up at all, you are realistic; and you always keep your followers in mind when you present all this luxury stuff. Which makes it really comfortable to watch you 😊

      Go to the grocery store/grocery oil section and get a big tub of (solid) coconut oil for under 10 bucks if you really want something that will "transform" your hair into silk. It's important you get it from the grocery and not the cosmetics section because cosmetic coconut oils are cut with cheaper and crappier ingredients and they jack up the price even though it's crap.

    It will repair your hair because it's an elixir not an oil
    The difference is an elixir has small enough molecules to fill and fix the damage hair unlike most oil (except for aragon oil which is rare to find pure and is expensive ) which has bigger molecules that are not as effective.
    Btw kerstatse has an elixir and I know it's cheaper !

    you always use oil AFTER you straighten. I am a beautician. putting oil on right before you straighten will burn your hair. that's why you've been having problems with your hair Tati. Do a deep conditioning treatment (something with moisture and protein) at least once a week. I actually sleep with mine in my hair sometimes. start using your oil after your heat products you will start to see a difference

  • @phoenixmoon5580

    Tati I have curly hair to the point I can almost have an afro! I've found I can actually brush my hair with minimal breakage. Use avocado oil, coconut oil, and really work them separately into your hair until it disappears, keep going until it feels saturated with that oil. Then do the same with coconut oil and work it into the hair with your hands. Keep going until you get it saturated, then some more whether wet or dry. If you do this when wet you seal in the water and moisture, if dry you provide nourishment and moisture to the hair. If you get any on the scalp it is fine, coconut oil is probably best to use for scalp and then massage it gently but intend to get it into your mind!!! Do this before bed if you genuinely cannot stand wearing it during the day. Use a paddle brush that has bristles that resemble a comb. Plait it before going to bed, wear a bonnet if you are worried about it going on the sheets. Shampoo with a gentle shampoo once! Then use a hydrating/moisturising conditioner, comb through using a product distributing comb or wide tooth comb, and leave in for 3 to 5 minutes (even if not a leave in intensive conditioner) before rinsing. Then apply the oils again in the same way (should you be needing to go out, then use less of both), however work both into your hair separately! Try shampooing less maximum every 2 to 3 days, you can use a strengthening/less moisturising conditioner in place of a shampoo if you feel you need to (yes even for post gym stuff!), then use a conditioner comb through, rinse, and follow with oil whilst wet. Also, before starting this, wash ALL your hair combs, brushes, and clean your hair tools. You might want to do a quick yet gentle clarifying shampoo, or one designed to remove build up of prior products. Squeeze hair until almost dry, then follow with a deep hydrating, moisturising conditioner, and leave on for 5 to 30 mins. Try to keep your hair up in a plait when possible, and when in humid or windy conditions. It will minimise tangling and breakage. I've found if you do this often enough you can almost go without the heat styling tools. Also, avoid all salt sprays, drying texturising sprays, and all dry conditioners. The oils can texturise your hair and give it more bounce and less frizz, depending on how you put it into your hair. My hair was a tight curl, and if I work the oils in right, it becomes almost straight! Regardless, good luck!

      She's "fucking rich" because she works really hard for it. She is one of the most hardworking youtubers from all the editing and filming which she does by herself and from trying out literally every new product that comes out. Don't complain about the wealth of others when they are working their asses off for it.

    try using warm virgin cold pressed coconut oil on dry hair an hour before shampooing your hair, its amazing for damaged hair caused by styling tools!

    Tati you are the best! But, working out in makeup is super bad for your skin!

      It can be some people find it does more damage to wash their hair an additional time in a day then working out in makeup.

      I use makeup wipes to take everything off before hitting the gym. Working out in makeup causes pores to get clogged.

      I often wonder how the dislikes come about. Other videos are up less than a minute and have thumbs down. It might be bots. At any rate, she can disable the ratings if it bothers her that much. Idk why y'all make it a big deal when the likes outweigh the dislikes. And the likes and dislikes have no bearing on anything. They'd just tell the creator how many people like/dislike their content.
