Never heard him live, but love listening to these UA-cam uploads of Richter's performances. He never disappoints, just like Alfred Brendel. Certain pianists just take it to another level. I respect the fact that Richter often played from the score, I don't think that should ever be held against a pianist just because the vast majority memorise all the pieces. A great artist at work, shining light on the genius that was Mozart. A joy to hear this, thanks for posting it.
One of the best performance of these sonatas I've ever heard. I'd even say the best performance. Sviatoslav Richter is amazing. Thanks for sharing uploader!
Como siempre un placer escuchar las interpretaciones de Richter que nos emocionan, nos sacuden y llegan al fondo del alma: acarician y nos elevan. Gracias por compartir.
True. Many performers mistake Mozart for a "child"... and play accordingly. Mozart died young, and his music is "sweet", but it's not simply sweet. Mozart had a very , very mature emotional view and perception of the world around him. Richter, true to who he is, reflects this most important aspect in his performance! For me Richter died prematurely too!
As a novice piano player, I love watching Richter's technique and observing how developed he was in the elementary aspects of the discipline. It inspires me enough to persist in playing as well as I might through the example of his hand positioning, finger strength, dexterity etc.
Funnily enough, many people, including Richter himself, didn't think he felt quite at home with Mozart in the same way he clearly enjoys playing Haydn for example. I absolutely love the k310- a joy to listen to! Pires is another great Mozartian just in case you are interested. Enjoy!
@@PK-re3lu Difference between Richter and Pires is that the former simply plays what the composer wrote, whereas the latter puts her heart into the composition. For Richter and all those who play like him, it's a good job that The Great Mozart wrote wonderful pieces!!
Thank you for posting this. I was privileged actually to be there, and it was an extraordinary occasion. Sadly he declined to play any encores - that's temperament for you, and perhaps concert-goers are a bit greedy to expect them. He certainly gave one or two at his RFH recital a week or so earlier, and he was apparently unhappy about the lighting at the Barbican.
During the Chopin half of this recital (elsewhere on UA-cam) they seemed to shine an overhead light onto the keyboard - this clearly bothered Richter as you can see him periodically looking up at it. Presumably they did it without his permission - audience was lucky he didn’t just storm off!
I was there too, and what a night it was. You will remember that the advertised program was Hindemith and Bartok, and he at the last minute it was changed to the Mozart sonatas and Chopin Etudes. I also saw one of the RFH concerts when he returned to London a year or two later, but this was the one, full of crackling electricity as befitted Richter's black mood of that evening. he gave 2 curtain calls and left immediately afterward for his hotel whereas we clapped, whistled and stamped our feet for a good 20 minutes. Personally I never cared for pianists who give copious encores like Sokolov and Kissin, smacks too much of the showman, which Richter emphatically was not...

What made Richter decide to not just study and learn Handel, rareBach keyboard works play.He knew his name sold but to play everythingat the highest level was impressive. Few pianists do this Horoitz and Argerich carry the same hats everywhere. It was a revelation when she tossed out Strauss Burleske and Bartok 3rd concerto .
Since I play Mozart daily, my Chopin playing has become much, much better. Mozart teaches me how to breath music, which is crucial.
When Richter plays, the music just unfolds purely and simply.
This is exactly how it is. Thank you.

Playing 200 notes per minute is not music.. music is what makes you feel.. music is what this immortal plays..
in India they play 2000 per minute...
He did it again. He turned Mozart's simple tunes into a gem, ........just like he did to Bach's well-tempered klavier I & II.
Richter said Mozart is most difficult for him
Schnabel said Mozart is too easy for beginners but too difficult for artists.

Mozart was 18 when he composed K282 and we know that his dad was living but a bit overbearing, I don't see much adulthood on that one yet.

Mozart: "Leck mich im Arsch"
