- At this point even I'm kind of "Okay, ANOTHER Darth Vader and Stormtrooper?" But I'll be danged if Bandai didn't nicely upgrade their S.H. Figuarts versions. To the point where I'll hardpressed not to call these my new display versions, beating out prior iterations. At least for today.

Someone probably already said this, but Vader did have a chain in ROTJ but it was small and black not silver.
It was silver in revenge of the sith, correct?
I know it's an old comment, but I feel the need to point out: that's why I prefer Vader figures with no chain/molded on the shoulder armor chain. It's almost unnoticeable in the films so it's going to look clunky and cumbersome on figures smaller than sixth scale (which I honestly have no interest in for what concerns Vader, since they are way too expensive for me, the exception being the fantastic Disney Store ANH Vader. And even on that figure, the chain looks way too big and I think I'll be creating a wider cape without any chain).

Pretty much all of the weapons in the original trilogy have some sort of ww1/2 inspiration to them

@@theundeadranger10 They're not inspirations, they're literally surplus guns modified. The prop team couldn't afford to make brand new weapons, so they just modified already existing stuff.

I believe Vader did have a chain in RotJ, but it was black, so we just didn’t see it until they upped the quality to blu-ray.
It's odd the chain is only visible In Rotj and your right it's a thin black chain, which means the silver chain featured in most of the other vader figures is inaccurate to the movies
darkfullgor 0_0 ok I had to go back and watch episode 4-6 and yup Vader has always had a chain. It’s a little hard to see in episode 4 because it disappears under the bottom of the helmet

I think the 1/6 Kaiyodo/Screamin Vader model kit has the best plastic Vader sculpt so far. I think it was actually casted and shrunk from one of the movie helmets if I recall correctly. The thing is it’s reversed for some reason, so the curves are on the opposite sides. Still absolutely gorgeous.
7:21 From what images I've seen of Darth Vader, he does have a chain holding the cape in place in the Original Trilogy, but it's smaller and black making it easy to hide under the neck portion of Vader's face mask. I'm not sure if it was always supposed to hide under the helmet, or if it was supposed to be visible.

I think I will get that ROTJ Darth Vader. He is the best Darth Vader yet in my opinion. (With the Black Series A New Hope One as second best) But I think it looks the best the helmet is the best yet. With good articulation to It’s very good to me.

I've been a fan of the Mafex RO Vader for a while now and I agree, I think this is my newest favorite Vader so far. Great silhouette overall and it feels nice to look at as a movie Vader.

Great review Robo! This new Darth Vader head sculpt is the best and closet that I’ve seen thus far to screen accuracy in the 6 inch scale and the new Stormtrooper looks very good as well. Will be getting both.
I’m fine with the articulation simply because darth Vader was never very agile and his movements were limited so I wasn’t planning on having him in any dynamic poses
I have the RotJ model kit. I bought it after watching so many of your Vader reviews. I had so much fun putting it together, and painting It. He stands tall with the new Emperor from Hasbro. I just wanted to say thank you.
Yes it comes with all of the original kit plus 3 chest boxes, alternate cape and lower robes made of flexible rubber, a damaged wrist, and a prepainted Unmasked head.

Darth Vader always had a silver chain attaching the cape. but alot of the time it was caught under the neck armor of his helmet.
Ah yes!! This is my most anticipated review of the year from you!! I just HAVE TO get my hands on those Stormtroopers, they scale so well with Black Series and I can use the other weapons for my Sandtroopers/Jump Troopers. Great vid, always glad to see you enjoying figs!
Bandai's sculpt for Vader's mask is so good. Let down only by the fact they forgot to paint the alternating gunmetal grey patterns on certain parts of it.
These Vader bois look pretty nice but I think ima stick with my 40th anniversary vader
The 4th anni is great for ANH, for sure.
Some come with the helmet too wide, but some just right.

Yeah, that Vader is really good. The new Stormy is pretty good, too. But the Model Kit one is still superior. They got a lot right, and a perfect helmet in my opinion. Still look at it on my shelf and see how great it is. But yeah. Think I will be picking both of these up.
My favorite darth vader is still the newest black series ANH one. I am willing to sacrifice articulation for the look of the character. Also I feel like the best stormtrooper helmet sculpt is the original black series sandtrooper. It nailed the eyes and the mouthpiece, in my opinion
I honestly want to know why Hasbro made a different sculpt for their regular Stormtroopers rather than reusing the Sandtroopers. They were by far the best.
They look good! I’m excited for the storm trooper, I passed on the Vader since I’m happy with the last release. Man that unmasked head 🤮 the older one is so much better. I use the older unmasked head on my shf Vader
Took them three tries, but they finally made a half-decent Stormtrooper. Still not perfect, but looks much better than the previous two attempts.

There's a size difference.
I think the SHF one trumps those two Mafex ones. Helmets look took small on the MAFEX ones, THOUGH the red eyes are cool.
Have you actually held a Mafex Rogue One Vader?
I love that Vader. I just think it looks amazing, looking at the whole thing,the way it just stands there really shows the power for me. By the way your editing is becoming better and better and also more funnier, great job!
I have the original figuarts, which is dreadful, and the first mafex, which is slightly less dreadful. I think it's finally time to upgrade, thanks for the review.

I will say, that is definitely the best Vader of the SHF line. BUT, I am still very much in love with Mafex Rogue One Vader. This new Vader is tempting, which I can't get anyway, but I would certainly like a Vader just to mess around with, and I think this would definitely be it. Too bad I'm broke. -_-
Thanks for the quick review. The small mound for me to die on, is why black socks. I always thought stormtroopers wore ankle boots so should be white. I don't know why it bothers me but it does 😣

I may have to pick these up. I have the storm trooper model kit but this storm trooper looks fantastic as well.
For drill you would want for that is small hand drill called a pin vise or pin drill it is normally used for models or jewelry and they normally for set very tiny set of drill bits come with them
Hey robo! I got that Darth Vader for Christmas and when I was posing it to put on my shelf the chain on the cape broke. I did some looking and found the old black series cape in my closet. I put it on (although I had to bury the chain under the head to make it look more accurate, and to make it fit in general) and in my opinion it looks better, because the cape doesn’t block your view of the figure underneath. It also looks more accurate because the cape is behind his shoulders not blocking them.
I'm fairly certain the bead lines on the armor aren't screen accurate to A New Hope, but honestly they look pretty damn good.

Yeah baby! Enjoyed it, I opted for a second trooper over the new Vader and sticking with the mafex rogue one for now. BUT definitely am tempted.
Cloth for the cloak but plastic for the lower robe. Classic bandai, it seems like they actually messed up on purpose so they can sell another "renewal" version.

definitely worth it for the stormtroopers so much so I impulse bought 2 on the spot when I first saw them.

S.H. Figuarts ROTJ V2 is the BEST 1/12...so far. Great review as always.
I only wish Vader didnt have that slit in the torso for extra articulation. I dont think its needed, especially that prequel Jedi figures dont have it and yet work fine. And its abit of an eyesore, which is only mitigated by the fact the whole figure is black, so it blends it to an extent. I guess it is the final Vader we are going to get in 1/12 line, maybe except for Hasbro coming up with extra one for the EMpire strikes back. So I guess thats it, no more Vaders, no more hope of any of them beng100% perfect.

Yup never had a silver chain. Either no chain or 3-4 black links. That’s why when I did my Vader series I gave it to Mafex who...apparently watched the movies before making their figures even if they run on the skinny side.!

Just received my SHF Ep IV Stormtrooper today ... and WOW! This version beats my previous favourite, the Hasbro Stormy. I'm VERY picky on accuracy, & this is now the best 6 inch Stormtrooper I own. I never bought any of the previous Mafex or SHF versions, because of either weird cod piece lengths or innaccurate helmets - but these design issues are near as perfect on this Ep IV version. The cod piece is WAY better/shorter than previous versions (or as in early promo photos). The helmet is beautiful & even better than the Bandai model kit. I would highly recommend this SHF Stormy ! A+ to SHF ... finally !
The lack of proper paint of that Anakin head makes it look really strange... Still struggling whether I should get it or not. LOL

This is a good Vader...but that torsos weird, and the traffic cone lower skirt would totally hinder posing. Nah, not gonna replace my Mafex Rogue One Vader wit those menacing red eyes

0:45 I dunno, the Rogue One Vader from Mafex is damn near perfect. 3:15 The RO Stormtrooper kind of reminds of the Rebels stormtrooper snow that I think about it. The shape of the helmet is a little funky.
I think this Vader figure is the most movie accurate out of the rest. Looks just like RTOJ Vader to me. The Mafex Rogue One Vader is the best looking in my opinion, especially with the red eye lenses. Hard to pick one over the other as the best.
Nice to see the improvements in each iteration. Good comparisons. Personally i like the Bandai model kit for Stormtroopers and the Hasbro 40th Vader is close enough...until the next versions come out :)
I have the darth Vader action figure and I have a problem with the legs I moved them and they did a clicking noise and snapped out is there any fix?

Also, I found that the severed arm and alternate head fit well enough on the Model Kit so if you ever want recreate his final scene or just want Vader having a bad Monday, you can try doing that

Sticking with my R1 Mafex Vader for now, but glad I picked up two Stormtroopers! And now I can properly recreate the opening Tantive IV scene!
I'm going to still have to go with the model kit Stormtrooper as the overall best representation of the OT trooper in 1/12 scale. Especially if given a white base coat, some slight scratches since no stormtrooper was 100% clean in the movies and finally a top of clear coat.
And for the hardcore purists out there who know by memory all the differences between costumes, the model kit's helmet can serve as the Hero helmet while the new Figuarts helmet seems more like the Stunt helmet.

I rewatched the scene in rotj in which vader walks with palpatine and its really hard to tell if there is any silver chain on his cape. It looked like the cape was tucked beneath his neck. Maybe just remove the chain and glue it down?
Just got my Figuarts Stormtrooper in today. For some reason his left arm doesn't hing up as far as the right one.
I'm thinking of maybe getting the stormtrooper and calling him Gary.

Glad you take care of your cuticles for close ups Robo. Some reviewers have nasty looking fingernails. Devil is in the details. Glad I rolled the dice and ordered 3 stormtroopers. Another great Fwoosh video.
While the Stormtrooper helmet is still slightly off (looks mostly right in many angles but still looks slightly stylized, the proportions are all subtly off, especially in the lower half of the helmet - why is the model kit the ONLY normal Stormtrooper figure to get the Stormtrooper helmet perfectly right???), it looks like Bandai finally NAILED the Vader helmet with this one. It looks as perfectly on-model as the second Black Series one if not even just a tad more accurate, and has the nice clean ESB/ROTJ gloss to boot. The only things keeping me from getting it is that dang traffic cone skirt, and secondarily that I don't like the look of the "robes" sculpted on the upper torso, kinda overly matte and flat. In order to really be satisfied with it I'd at least have to replace the skirt with a fabric one, and even then I wouldn't like the mismatch between the fabric skirt and the plastic "robes" on the upper body when they're supposed to be the same piece of cloth. Still, aside from that one hang-up (which is partly just down to how Figuarts does fabric), they absolutely nailed this Vader.
Yeah, cut off the traffic cone and a better cape and it may be awesome. You might have to customize the red lenses though!! 😂😂
13:32 - weird that the stock isn't functional. I have some 3 3/4" Hasbro ones that work; so you would've thought a larger high end version like this definitely would have. Anywho, I'm playing catch-up, and gotta get me this definitive 1/12 Stormtrooper figure. I'm limiting my 6" Star Wars collection to about a dozen, but I just gotta have a Stormtrooper.

Till now, the only Vader I’m completely satisfied and in awe by is the hyper real version
That sculpt and proportions looks way too spot on with the only drawbacks being the scale (but that one I’m kinda fine with) and the possible fear about the rubber
You are right and i have it and it the perfect Darth Vader (Just too big for 6 inch scale) my only problem is that his boot came off the metal skeleton and the squishy goo inside was a mess. I did glue it back in and it moves how it used to now which is good. I do enjoy my SHF more in terms of playability
