This video inspired me to finally paint a wood wall unit that I've been procrastinating for several years. Purchased the paint, did 2 coats and I was done. I was able to do it indoors with having to move the wall unit, just removed the doors and all hardware. Wall unit looks like a new piece. Thank you!

Used a similar product seven years ago and is still great. No chipping easy to clean. Was thick but went on smoothly. Entire kitchen cabinets.would recommend this process. Little work just take your time.

I have been refinishing furniture for over 5 decades. A friend asked me to help her paint her small kitchen. I said as long as everything was cleaned, damage/chips repaired and everything sanded we could easily prime and paint everything in 3 days. She said her paint doesn't require priming. I restated the terms for my free labor. She balked. Rather than drive 5hrs one way I stayed home. She painted her cabinets with Beyond Paint. Everything went well - for almost 6weeks. By then she had painted bathroom vanities and the walls in the main bathroom. The paint started peeling in numerous areas. With tax she paid over $110 per gallon for paint that constantly chips off and falls into food she is preparing. The company offers zero assistance. I realize each person's results may vary. I would urge anyone interested in Beyond Paint to consider doing 2 'tests' in obscure locations before proceeding. One test as per instructions, another including Kilz low voc primer.

I just finished using BEYOND PAINT on my countertops and I am well pleased by the results. Just follow the directions and have some patience and it will turn out just fine. I'm going to be buying Beyond Paint again to do my two bathroom countertops.
After using Rust-Oleum's product to cover my countertops, they started to peel! I did a lot of research before finding BEYOND PAINT! This stuff is the BEST on the market. I was happily surprised that there really isn't any sanding, priming, etc. The coverage was awesome, just a little went a long way. I wound up redoing my kitchen countertops and then I decided to do my cabinets to match. The only thing different that I did was to use water based acrylic MiniWax satin coat after using Beyond Paint's 'sealant'. I applied 3 coats of that to the countertops because they get more use and abuse than the cabinets. The results were FANTASTIC! Also here's something that almost freaked me out. After doing the coats on the countertops, a single drop of water hit a spot. When I came back to it to fix it, it was GONE! This stuff is self leveling! I liked Beyond Paint so much that I wound up doing both of my bathroom countertops as well. This product runs circles around everything else that's available! I was really disappointed with Rust-oleum's countertop coating...
We were just talking about repainting our cabinets for our beach house and didn't want to go through the hassle of sanding and priming. This was a great video! Thanks for making it!
@@MikeWitmerNatureJournal whatever you know, I'd like to hear. I am faced with 30 year old golden oak cabinets in very good condition and a tightening remodel budget, so looks like I will be painting...29 doors, 13 drawers, boxes, and also insides (they are very dark)! I do NOT want any do-overs.
@@MikeWitmerNatureJournal 'may' lol. Seriously even BM Scuff-x will nick right off without a good bonding primer. I hope no one uses this paint in their kitchen. The guy is using a disposable brush and clearly isn't a painter.
Couple of things: If using glass cleaner, use one that's non-ammonia formula (I'd recommend dish liquid and warm water instead though). Also, This is a water-based acrylic layer so It will peel off. This is why you sand and prime: to create chemical adhesion. The closer you can get to the actual wood, the better the adhesion will be. Just scuff it with a sanding sponge before application and you're good to go. Happy painting.
When using Beyond Paint the recommended cleaning products are a degreaser like simple green or mineral spirit. Dish soaps can leave oily residues because it does have natural oils for fragrance. Our paint is a bonding paint with no need to sand or prime.

Fabulous! I watched your other cabinet painting tutorials, Wes. All the sanding and priming, and sanding and priming, and painting and sealant... wow, too much work when you have a big kitchen. This is great! Thank you so much 🥰
Be sure to hit it with 1-2 light coats of water based poly (clear coat). This product claims durability but without sanding as one of the prep steps it will peel and get damaged very easily.
I've been using this paint for a while and love it. I would still sand lightly if it's a finished peace, otherwise it will scratch easily. On new wood it's the greatest.

As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!
Nice demo of this product. The opacity is incredible. But I would never roll a piece of furniture except to initially cover it, then I would immediately brush to smooth the paint stipple. I'd love to see how much working time one has before the paint can't level itself and drags on the brush too much. I look for nice butter-smooth strokes across the whole piece to get that perfect finish and then I never double back on it. One suggestion I have for you is to show a closeup of the finished piece so it reflects the light and we can see exactly how well it levels and what sort of texture is left behind. This stuff seems amazing, but if one is looking for the truly original factory flat finish, they may be disappointed without understanding the true texture.
@@nicholash8021 don’t disagree, but to get a decent model, you’re looking at around 500$. Not talking Wagner, or some other low end model. I just don’t see many willing to spend that. A low end Graco airless is around the same price. Like you said, some people don’t know, and are happy with the results they get with a brush or roller.
Thanks for making this video! I'm new to your channel, this being the first video I've ever seen. I liked the fact that you were willing to try out a product that was the "lazy way" or the "cheater" way as my mom would've called it.
That looks really amazing. It’s great to see a product that actually works as the manufacturer claims it should. You don’t see that too often these days.
I think the true test would be the durability. I bought a house where the previous owner painted his cabinets with a latex paint and the areas around the door handles and drawer handles that are used daily the paint has come off.
Even if the paint or a product claims durability it still needs 1-2 light coats of something clear. I'd recommend a water based poly. Especially since the shown method doesn't include sanding as one of the prep steps.
@@jsantaite1 Clean and degrease with a mineral spirit or simple green product. Wipe well and allow to fully dry before applying your first coat. Make sure to allow 2-4 hours between coats and for it to fully dry for 7-10 days (in this timeframe it can be susceptible to chipping and may need touch ups) This is normal! It fully cures after 30 days where you can maintain with mild cleaners.
I wish I could of used this product in my tiny kitchen. But there was so many layers of paint!! Stripped. Sanded and filled.however I have a wooden desk that is going too get this paint! Thank you for the great video.
Hi Wes, thank you for the nice video :) I saw some videos of people getting scratches on their painted cabinets after a few months. Are your cabinets still doing great 7 months in?
Yes, because water based paint alone is simply not going to chemically bond with a varnish. It'll just be a so-so mechanical bond, as with every self-priming paint. Self-priming just means it has good adhesion, and you can get away with one coat of primer, just to give the topcoat paint some tooth to hold onto. There's no point in not priming anyway. You need 3 coats to get full hide and color depth, so make the first one a bonding primer, like Stix, and that's after thorough cleaning with Krud Kutter and a soft stripping pad, then wipedown with water. Painting cabinets is just not DIY. You really should just hire someone or it's gonna look bad.

I am currently working on expanding my work and you will help me a lot if you accept this thing. I will thank you for the rest of my life
Hello Wes. Thanks for making this video. Once this product has cured how does it hold up to a scratch test ? How Scratch resistant is this product ? Thank you.
Anyone that knows anything about painting knows that it is not going to last. For those who don’t, paint has to adhere to the surface, and that means prepping it. That’s what keeps the bond. No prep painting is something for a quick fix and sending it down the road. Theses going to be a lot of people that are selling things that won’t care. This is their product.
Great job, that beat up cabinet looks pretty good. Love that color too. I’m going to check this product out. How far did that little jar go? Not sure how many jars I would need.
Also, regarding colors, you CAN mix in painters’ acrylics (or other paints) to create a custom color, but the non beyond paint paint can’t end up comprising more than 10% of the finished mix, or the performance of the behind paint will not be a sure thing. I plan on mixing various beyond paint colors to get the colors I want.
Love all your videos. Just wondering if you tried fingernail scratch test? Kitchen cabinets that are painted always seem to fail the fingernail scratch test 😞

Wes, how does this paint on oak cabinets? Does it fill in the grain so you can't see it? That would be awesome if it did! I want to paint my kitchen cabinets & it is a big kitchen so if I didn't have to fill in the grain that would save so much time.
Hey, if you don't want your cabinets to chip or peal, you must sand them down to bare wood. There is no way to get rid of the pattern other than grain filler. For sure prime. Use good paint.

Does it require a polyurethane finish to protect it from wear, or does the paint claim to have that built-in? I recently used a "scratch guard" cabinet paint that claims it didn't need poly, and a large section of it got scratched off on the very first day of use -_- I hate painting.
Think poly would yellow and change the color it's covering over time, maybe 2 light coats of something water based? I think even if the paint claims durability it definitely needs some clear coat, especially when the prep work doesn't include any sanding.
I call BS on this. No way does this stuff adhere to unsanded, finished cabinets. You can apply almost any paint to many things and it may look good but will not stick.

That’s an amazing product Wes! Great video as always 👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍
It really is! Thanks John
Thank you Wes. I'm going to try it on a dresser.
I suppose I'd mix colors to create my own.
Looking up pricing ...
This is exactly what I need.
Thank you again for a fantastic tutorial !
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Hi...thank you for watching. I think mixing could be a creative way to get what color you want. Wes
This is amazing. I was going to pain the kitchen and contractors were asking for my left kidney. Thank you.
Glad I could help! Wes
🙄
Buy an airless or pay for the finish from the factory
@@zachwagner1838 or HVLP depending on the type of paint. CabinetCoat for example recommends HVLP with 6% added water.
You would be surprised why the foam roller works I was skeptical about the roller!! Biggest problem is people over load brush or roller !!
That color is beautiful 🤩
Thanks for making this video! I'm new to your channel, this being the first video I've ever seen. I liked the fact that you were willing to try out a product that was the "lazy way" or the "cheater" way as my mom would've called it.
Thank you for joining our community. Glad you enjoyed the video, Wes
Yes!!! Divine timing for sure!!!!!!! I'm so over sanding and priming and and and. Lol Thank you
Yes...there is no sanding, stripping and priming. Great product line. Good luck with your projects. Wes
That looks really amazing. It’s great to see a product that actually works as the manufacturer claims it should. You don’t see that too often these days.
Right? Thanks for your comment and visiting the channel. Wes
Grandioso y motivador trabajo de pintura Sr. Wes. Me fascino.👍🆒️😉🙂🙃🇵🇷💕💕💕💕💕💕🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🙋♀️🍀
I think the true test would be the durability. I bought a house where the previous owner painted his cabinets with a latex paint and the areas around the door handles and drawer handles that are used daily the paint has come off.
The website for Beyond Paint explains its durability as a key feature. Yes, you are right, time is the true test. Thanks for your comment. Wes
That's what I'm wondering too peeling is a big deal,
@@WoodworkingWithWes this is my main concern. is there a reason not to seal Beyond Paint with a polyurethane coat?
15:49
Wes looks like you got a good thing going on . Look at them views!
I did exactly as the directions say. It was on a whole expensive Thomasville bedroom set. Looks gorgeous but peels right off.
I’m so glad you said that. I was thinking about giving it a go. Not anymore.
Even if the paint or a product claims durability it still needs 1-2 light coats of something clear. I'd recommend a water based poly. Especially since the shown method doesn't include sanding as one of the prep steps.
We'd love to know what you used to clean it with with? The paint peeling right off is not commonplace. We'd be out of business!
@@BEYONDPAINT I would be interested in knowing the prep process as well.
Hi thank you for everything.

No stripping, sanding, or priming? You had me at “no” sir!
😀
I wish I could of used this product in my tiny kitchen. But there was so many layers of paint!! Stripped. Sanded and filled.however I have a wooden desk that is going too get this paint! Thank you for the great video.
You are so welcome...glad you found it useful. Good luck on your project. Wes
Hi Wes, thank you for the nice video :)
I saw some videos of people getting scratches on their painted cabinets after a few months.
Are your cabinets still doing great 7 months in?
Hi...I was just demonstrating the paint and did not keep the cabinet. Sorry. Thanks for watching. Wes
I absolutely love this product. 😊
Hello my friend
I am an engineer from Jordan. I love woodwork and I work in this field. I have a great passion and I love my work very much, and I always aspire to learn more. Unfortunately, the tools in Jordan are very limited, and I buy from Amazon sometimes, but with shipping costs a lot. I prepared every video of you and I love the way you work very much. Can I, if I travel to America, work for you for free and help you to learn and benefit from your experience?
I have been working in this field for 8 years, but the level of woodworking in Jordan is very poor, so I will buy tools from America that are not in Jordan. I hope you accept this thing. I am currently working on expanding my work and you will help me a lot if you accept this thing. I will thank you for the rest of my life
Super nice that this exists. Pictures at the end of closeups would be nice to see the texture and fine detail
Noted! Thanks for watching, Wes
Hello Wes.
Thanks for making this video.
Once this product has cured how does it hold up to a scratch test ? How Scratch resistant is this product ?
Thank you.
Jose...it appears to be very durable. It is sold in small quantities so you could do your own test. Thanks for watching. Wes
@PurpleBirch would a top coat help, something clear that hardens well? Such as...
Would you suggest to put a clear coat over painted cabinets? And if so, which one would be the best?
Hi Vanessa Beyond Paint does not require any top coat. It is a true one-step process. Thanks for watching. Wes
What about regular paint?
@@vanessabailey6325 Clear top coat is not required on regular paint.
This is awesome definitely will pick this up to paint my moms bathroom excited to try this ❤
Have fun!
Wow the coverage looks so nice in the first coat. Thank you so much for this test! I am so happy I found your channel.
Thank you Sheri for your comment and joining our community! Wes
Thank you for an excellent demonstration!
Also 000 steel wool and vinegar would be a better choice to clean.
Thanks for your comment...good suggestion. Wes
Question is... how durable is the paint? How long before you get scratches and chipping?
If you sand the units they will last much longer from chipping but this type of paint can be touched up.
Thx...seen before and they also were impressed 💜👍 Waynesville NC
Great...I think it is a very impressive product. Thanks for visiting my channel. Wes
Would like to see the fingernail scratch test. If paint comes off easily then it’s a no go for me.
if you are worried about that then if you dont mind a gloss finish why not use urethane after?
You have to give it about three weeks to be able give a proper test.
I am going to have to do a clear coat protectant. I have a two year old grandson 3 days a week and a husband that is hard on the house.
Depends on who's fingernails, my Asian GF had nails that could scratch a diamond, lol
@@hansvonschlader8227 Bravo! Excellent!
Thank you for all your information...very helpful. Now I need to order Beyond paint...
Great job, that beat up cabinet looks pretty good. Love that color too. I’m going to check this product out. How far did that little jar go? Not sure how many jars I would need.
I was wondering the same thing.
@@cindicusimano5674 it comes in a gallon size on the beyond paint site! I think I’m going to try it. Cheers.
I used a quart and did a 5 drawer chest and a 9 drawer dresser. Was enough for 2 coats on each
Enjoyed this! Thank you
Gonna do this on the body of my kitchen cabinets then use your ceruse guide for the doors/drawers
Thank you for sharing. Wes
How did that work out? I'm planning my soft make-over and would also like to mix colors. TIA.
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Love all your videos. Just wondering if you tried fingernail scratch test? Kitchen cabinets that are painted always seem to fail the fingernail scratch test 😞
Any paint can be damaged if abused, however, this seems to hold up really well so far. Thanks for visiting our channel. Wes
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos !! I'm pregnant and living with my fiance and soon to be mother in law who's 91 years old ! The house is 84 years old !!! What a very nice comment...thank you so much!! Good luck with your projects. Wes
My question is how about if the cabinets already painted with other brand of paint can you paint over them or ? Thanks
The manufacturer indicates this product can be over an applied over an existing painted surface. Thanks for your visit. Wes
Great demo!
My cabinets have a glossy clear coat. Would this work without removing the clear coat?
Same here
It should work fine...however, you might read through some of our comments of those who have used this product. Scuffing beforehand may bring better results. Thanks for watching. Wes
Wes, you are going to get me in trouble. 😂 the blue is beautiful and my bathroom cabinet needs to be purple now. I think I will try this while my hubby is working out of the home. 😂
Sounds like a plan. Good luck! Wes
Great demo, and since I'm looking to repaint my kitchen cabinets, it made me look up the price, ouch, that stuff is $100.00 a gallon.
There are other product that are similar Rustoleum has a product I used its also thick, has stood up very well !! Take your time!! Make sure cabinets surface is clean and free of any grease etc They can mix any shade l got mine at Menard's !! It takes about 30 days for it to really cure !! Still looks great 3 yrs later !!
Thank you so much for sharing your video!!! Cabinet turned out great!!!
You are so welcome!
@@ALEX-fi8qd I have a big oak kitchen (29 doors!) and I'm 76. This is a 30 yr old "average" quality home in a rural community, so I'm not looking to exhaust myself or my budget going high-end. To avoid filling all that grain, would cerusing actually be a better way to go or is it time intensive also?

Thanks for an awesome video.
Good video. I’m a bit disappointed though I was hoping to see you test the adhesion of this product. Either a 1 hour or a 24 hour test. Still good to see other products but we have to remember adhesion is the name of the game.
Thanks for your comment...the Beyond Paint website does address your concerns. Wes
How much of the pint did you use for that cabinet?
Before adding the second coat , can it be sand a little to give a smooth shinny finish?
@@addy.yen679 Sanding between coats will help smooth the final application, however, the paint does have a bit of a texture when complete. Thanks for watching. Wes

Loving this, but I'm believing a more "zen" music & volume would be much better.
Thanks for watching and visiting our channel. Wes
Most background music is annoying !!
I love it! Will try for sure.
This cabinet has hinges mounted "externally" which is what my old kitchen cabinets (Oak) have. Not the best look.
They look great. My husband don’t do that because everyone eventually goes back to,wood stain. Maybe I can paint the bathroom cabinets, at least. Thanks , looking forward to more suggestions.
@@janicebell5925 No it doesn't oak cabinets date a kitchen especially if they are that orangey stain White cabinets and or cream are here to stay it's all in the preparation !!
I am very impressed!
Thanks for sharing this. The project turned really nice. 💯👏🏼⭐️
Thank you! 😊
I call BS on this. No way does this stuff adhere to unsanded, finished cabinets. You can apply almost any paint to many things and it may look good but will not stick.
