Big fan of your work as always! Here are a couple of tips depending on how you want to complete this challenge. 1) If you plan to get the Celebi from the JPN Bonus Disk, the Gamecube is region locked so you will also need a completed GBA save file in order to redeem the Celebi. FR/LG will require the Sevii Island quest to be completed, so for the sake of your sanity, you should play either one of Ruby or Sapphire in Japanese. 2 birds in one stone. The JPN Bonus Disc does recognize Emerald as well as FR/LG so that's also an option if you want that as well as long as they are in japanese. 2) Jirachi is available from the US Bonus Disc or from the PAL version of Pokemon Channel (which is a game that requires you to watch plenty of Pokemon media for its completion). I would advise to use the Bonus Disc instead because its only requirement is to start a save file and obtain the Pokedex to get a Jirachi. It's only compatible with English versions of R/S sadly (Same with Channel but PAL Channel can send the Jirachi to any R/S game of any region that matches the language setting). 3) For Mew there are a couple of Distribution ROMs available online which had a few Mew events available you can use to redeem it. The Japanse version of Emerald was the only one who received the distribution of the Old Sea Map but pretty sure there are other distributions that can get you a Mew (Like the movie MYSTRY one). 4) Once you begin Pokemon Colosseum take into account that it has a very annoying mechanic where Shadow Pokemon use a move called Shadow Rush which is a base 90 power attack that causes recoil. It's one of my main grievances with the game itself so plan accordingly because if your Shadow Pokemon is too weak, it will kill itself on recoil. Also there are a couple of Sleep immune Pokemon (Notcowl and Ariados) but I am probably getting ahead by far too much :P Hope this helps and best of luck!

These videos motivated me to finally start doing something similar! Playing gen one and two for so long REALLY makes you appreciate the modern quality of life differences, and arguably the biggest difference is usable move sets! Tallow learns two flying moves by level 13! Pidgey in gen 1 doesn’t get a flying move until it’s like a pidgeot! Running shoes are a really huge thing too. I personally don’t mind the old graphics, I think they’re charming and I appreciate how cool it was back in its day, but event still playing gen three right after gen 2 is a HUGE step up in quality.
Very nice watching this series, since I'm completing Pokédex in every game too, starting from Gen 1 (actually the Living Dex is something that I aim too, in every main save, but for now just focusing on the Pokédex).

Also there are a couple of Sleep immune Pokemon (Notcowl and Ariados) but I am probably getting ahead by far too much :P
Hope this helps and best of luck!
I'm glad you were able to enjoy gen 3! My favorite part here was the Xatu joke. XD
Dad Technology! Bringing you classic innovations like Grills! Step-ladders! And Puns!
I was really looking forward to this video! Emerald is my fave game in the series, with the Best Region and Best Boy (Wally), plus a truckload of cool new mons, so seeing your spin on the Adventure was all the more enjoyable :D
Only drawback is that your rival is utter shit, in that regard I really prefer Barry or Blue
@@gurururuwarararara8164 The Brendan/May rival ends up a bit underwhelming, but I think they were on to something pretty interesting with their personalities, it's not as sugary as later Friendly Rivals would be. They also offer an interesting parallel with both the player character and Wally (who is the dark horse surprize and is my fave Human Character in the franchise for the subtext RSE offers)
@@cutcat5095 Yeah, the problem for me is that Brendan suddenly goes awol after Lilycove. Battling Wally before the E4 is cool, but Brendan should've been included there as well somewhere. Shame we never get to see our Main rivals team fully evolved
I find your delivery and style very unique and refreshing. These long videos are so chill.
love this series, I'm so excited for you to catch them all!
Having played emerald since release, and having watched dozens of speedruns of emerald, this was extremely fun to watch. Seeing someone experience the game without complete knowledge was so refreshing, and I'm glad getting over the hurdles the game threw at you ended up being a good time!
Thank you very much for the compliment! I try to add a personal spin on the gameplay to make it entertaining, so knowing you enjoyed it makes me happy :'D
The President of Devon didn’t kill himself.
And so that's the story of how the great pokemon catcher became the Hoenn champ with a funny fish he stole, a rock he picked up in a cave, and a bird he ran over at some point
Emerald is my favourite main line pokemon game, such a great game & looks fantastic
Glad you finally came around on this old gem. It’s not always about catching them all, there is more to the series than that!
Speedrunners and nuzlockers, probably: Pokémon is a game where victory is dependent most strongly on knowledge. Knowing what your opponent might do is just the start--fully understanding what your team is capable of is what lets you unlock your greatest potential
Lyra made a website: 34:00
10:25 "Aww poopies" is the single best description of rival battle 2 I've ever heard
I love how this game is 18 years old at the time of posting and poeple can still play and narrate like it's brand new. Timeless.
So, something I noticed when you were in Flannerys gym was that you said that these trainers only use Hoenn pokemon but they send out Slugma, isn’t that a Johto mon?
I think he meant Hoenn Dex
@@miguelaguilar5115 yeah that’s probably the most likely answer, why would any NPC use mons that aren’t available in the main game though? Post game I get, that’s Nat Dex basically.
@@Goomatora He didn't know the typing of Gyarados or Groudon, so it's likely he could have mistaken Slugma for a Hoenn Pokémon since it was seen more in Hoenn than Johto.
My bad, I meant the Hoenn Pokédex. I even pointed out people mistaking Slugma for a Gen 3 Pokémon in the past... only to get it wrong myself!
@@Lyra Well, of course they would use Pokémon from the Regional Dex!
Xatu's inner peace is something I aspire to achieve
yes that includes exploding
watched the previous video a dozen times, couldn't wait for this one.
I’ve never noticed how much of a huge widow’s peak Norman has in this game. Puts Vegeta to shame, god damn
Thank you Lyra for letting me relive my childhood memories of watching on in abject amazement at my younger brother's unique lack of prowess at Pokémon.
Hated that we never met our Rival again for a last battle with his fully evolved Starter.
Slugma isn't even a Hoenn Pokemon! It's from Johto!
Today on Gen 3 Living Dex, Lyra learns about Pokémon with unintuitive types
Gyarados and Charizard both having flying typing instead of dragon is hilarious. Feels very gen 1 to me.
Charizard is a lizard all the dex entries say as much, so I guess it isn't a dragon. Idk. Sure looks like one. And Mega X is one.
Magikarp is based on a Japanese proverb of a determined carp that leaps so high it becomes a *flying* dragon after it successfully leaps over a waterfall.
In the 3d switch games Gyarados can fly, so it all tracks.
Damn you for making me watch the same video three times by changing the thumbnail/title (banger video though, worth watching three times)
That was not the goal, I just had a really though time with the thumbnail this time, but I am happy to know you appreciate the video that much :'D
@@Lyra nah mate you only make banger videos, I sometimes rewatch them for fun
I love how that specific rival battle muggs of experienced pokemon players, kids and speedrunners alike to this day
It is the gift that keeps on giving :')
I like vaporeon

This was such a ride to watch! So much technology was introduced in gen 3!
🤣
5:25 "...some old man invites us on his boat". This isn't just SOME old man, he is THE MAN ; the one that will help you go to faraway island and catch mew.
God, how did you NOT know Gyarados is Water/Flying? That's been a thing since GEN ONE.
I had a feeling the “dad technology” joke was coming up but it still made me laugh lol
Whoever made Gyarados a Flying type rather than a Dragon type was a real UA-cam.
Damn bro i want to congratulate you for your will to play these games, watched you couple of weeks ago when I was sick and I am amazed so please never give us up
I would have just used a Shedinja against Wallace, since it forces him to switch to something that can hit it
Gen 3 has some back tracking, but if you thing about it, there are many different ways you could have backtracked. Some you didnt even though about on your first playthrough probably, and I love that on gen 3
I also like it because it gives a metroidvania vibe
Honestly, I don't blame you for not knowing Gyarados is part flying type, because it makes no goddamn sense. To this day, the only physical flying-type move it learns is Bounce. (Except in gen 9 apparently, since Game Freak didn't feel like putting it in the game. 🤦)
That ending... God, you're a beautiful disaster; quality content! XD I still remember my first fight with Wallace.
23:38 Thats Spyro the dragon music!! Wow that unlocked some childhood memories...
Remember when the thumbnail only had one Ludicolo?
Couldn't wait to see this video after seeing the VODs!
I was actually worried few days ago that something went wrong with your plans since you were not uploading in a while. And here you are. Awesome.
Nothing wrong with the plans, just a vacation break in December ;')
5:40 :O so that's the secret to catching Pokemon; the power of FRIENDSHIP!
Bro! So glad this video came out. I been looking forward to this!!🎉🎉🎉
It is amazing how much but how little you know about pokemon.
“Here’s the exact functions of every Gen 2 pokeball. What type is Gyrados?”
Stellar video can’t wait for the red video
Yes, GROUNDon, the fire type.
I hate that the algorithm didn't tell me about this upload
Good thing I remembered you and came back! I love your videos
This was amazing! Thank you so much for these amazing videos
Barely 3 minutes in and this is already a banger. Love me some dad and trumpets.
I've always thought that though less fun, the optimal way to get through Pokemon was to pick a small number and focus exp on just them.
Thank you for proving me wrong.
That 7th gym battle with Xatu was sincerely funny
I tried doing this for Moemon Emerald and made it about 75% of the way before restarting. Helps that I have other romhacks with otherwise difficult-to-obtain or noncatchable Pokémon I could trade over. Fun experience, especially when each Moemon has its own custom sprite (obviously) and Pokédex entry to read through.
Btw, can't wait to hear your thoughts on the Sinnoh soundtrack. If you play it, that is...
Y'all make fun of the truck, but I'd have loved it as a kid, it's like a bedroom on wheels
Huh, is that what living in a trailer would feel like
Lyra: I'm a water type efficianado
Also Lyra: every water type or fish becomes their nemesis
Goated take on the Indigo vs Orange Spice GameCube debate. I always chose to play as "May" because she had the orange Cube.
the moment I saw you pick Mudkip and state you wouldn't be catching many Pokémon I knew the horror you were in for with the 3rd rival battle, its the same issue speed runners have, that fight is brutal but I THINK May is slightly harder but not sure why off the top of my head.
funny enough that fight is pretty well "solved" so it's not a major reset point, just can lose time ifyou're unlucky with the slugma while stuffing marshompt full of poke-drugs :D
Let's give a shout-out to the true heroes of this playthrough: Spiky Boi, Spiky Boi, and...birb.
Lyra: let's have some fun!
May: *starts tweaking*
Lyra you are a hilarious inspiration ! It took me the best part of 53 hours to get blue completed as much as possible on an actual Gameboy. Im just waiting for a link cable to arrive to do my trades with red but have since, started Ruby. (ill get back to gen 2). BUT you're so right Gen 3 plays so so good and I guess a lot of that is cos we have been playing Gen 1 and for you Gen 2 as well for the last ages. Keep her lit kid!
Slugma's from Johto, dork.
