I've been using Charlie's palettes for quite a while and they hold up well! The staining in the mixing area doesn't bother me and the staining on the wood is surprisingly minimal.
Not to mention, Charlie is INCREDIBLY kind and a total innovator. Supporting him is always a pleasure!
That's really cute, compact, and aestheticly pleasing. Most of my painting when I was doing it outside of my comfort house are on a5-a6 paper and only use smal brushes, so I don't really need that much paint. I don't really like plastic palette and regular tin palette's nice, but it's still too chuncky for me. Thank you for reviewing this product
So aesthetic! I'm a sucker for a cute box...
You prolly dont care but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can watch all the latest movies and series on InstaFlixxer. Have been binge watching with my girlfriend for the last couple of days xD
@Killian Rocky Definitely, have been using InstaFlixxer for months myself :D

Hi Teoh. Handmade products make for good keepsakes and this wooden palette has the additional bonus of being both functional & durable. It would make for a lovely artisanal, affordable gift.
Speaking of which - I believe many of your viewers (including myself, of course) would really enjoy seeing a gift list 2019 video with all the best or most favourite art products/books recommended for gifting.
The Art Gear Guide channel did an interesting 3 part UA-cam series this year for colour pencil artists divided into affordable ideas, luxury ideas & gift books. The Mind of Watercolor channel also did an informative "Gift Ideas for Artists" vid both this year & last.
Considering the vast numbers of products & books you review every year, it would be great to get the definitive "Teoh Approved" Top5 or Top10 artists' gift list for the festive season. These listicle type of videos tend to do well from a viewer count/affiliate link perspective as well so that's an added plus :)
Thanks. I'll see what I can do
What a lovely palette! Thank you for the great review, as always.
Actually if I go on a trip I love discovering art shops, that pallet is a good size to hold me over till I find one.
Hi Teoh saw your video on Amsterdam 2019 and then your video on Charlie's wood pallette, after that I have sent for one! Thanks Gerry
I really like this palette. Small and functional, perfect for plein air sketches. Thanks for this review, Teoh! 😊
I have this box in its 16 colour wells version that it was custom made for me by Charlie.
The mixing wells stain but I solved this problem by removing them and spraying them with two layers of white enamel paint. Then I glued them back in their place. But I don't particularly mind about the mixing wells either way because I use this box along with a cut to a similar size white bathroom tile that is the best mixing space ever.
The wooden box is ageing beautifully because I apply on it, wood preserving oils that give to the wood a darker colour and show the wood grain. When you first fill it with paint you have to wait for a while to dry or at least use a toothpick to smooth the paint evenly in the paint wells. It was expected that the paint will stick on the lid the way you applied it. The same would have happened if you had filled half or full pans with the same way.
Anyway... These are very high quality boxes and with a bit of care will last for ever. Chang Hoon Lee ( that is Charlie's Korean name ) is a great urban sketcher and a fantastic wood worker too.
Well it's nice to see someone with the intelligence and foresight to actually place decent mixing pans in a wooden wc box. I've seen too many perfectly fine watercolor sets that have plain wood mixing areas in the lid, which is frankly stoopid. Now let's see these locally available so I dont have to pay double for shipping!
I have one of his palettes! I got the one with 4 wells. I use it in all of my sketch videos on my channel! I put a magnet on the back to keep it on my sketchbook while I paint 😊
AquaRach Art: Hi! Just went to your channel, and it looks great! New sub! :)
Hey Teoh, danke für den Link. Gesehen, verliebt, bestellt und gestern direkt eingeweiht. Liegt super in der Hand, fühlt sich toll an und ist so schön klein & praktisch. 🥰👏👍
I have the razor palette from Charlie and LOVE it. The shipping to the US wasn’t that much either. It’s lightweight, and perfect for the small sketch books I tend to use (a6-a5)!
Suuuch a beauty. They could've really made the mixing wells square though, to get a bit more out of the very limited space available. With rounded edges... would still fit the aesthetic!
I feel like the wells and mixing area could be larger if they were square. Perhaps it is easier to make them rounded though?
They're cuter round, imo
Those are not ergonomic to make sure wood won't warp. It's way less surface for paints and other liquids then it can be, only because wood will warp if walls are thin.
These are so beautiful and nicely done.
This reminds me of a harmonica case. It seems a bit too small and it wouldn't really work for my landscapes because I really like to draw bigger pieces. However, I think it's perfect to bring for cafe or food sketching. I have been looking for a nice small palette for that purpose and I think this one's perfect. I will definitely get one for myself. Thanks for the honest review. :)
I really like the style of the pallet and I am also surprised how compact it is I think a pallet like this is really helpful for travelling ( short periods) 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 nice review
Thanks for reviewing them. I saw them at the Symposium and have been wondering how comfortable they are ever since.
This is a fun set, thanks for the overview 😉💚 always a delight watching your vlogs
Thank you for reviewing this- i have been wondering how it functioned for a while.
This object may not be the most convenient, but it is so pretty! I like the wood this format very nice.
I know it's small but it really is a cool little box!! I thought that was only made for you guys on that trip!!♥️♥️
2:36 noooo 🙈
I would be more caruful with this lovely Product OMG i like it so much👌
I looked at this beautiful palette some time ago, but decided it wasn't for me. I'm pretty sure that I would hesitate to use it, because I wouldn't want to mess it up. It really is very lovely, and looks well-constructed.
It's reminiscent of those antique wooden watercolor boxes, only they're travel sized.
Great video 😍
I’ve learned a lot about this palette
You created another lovely sketch too 👍
love the video Teoh!
Hi Teoh,
Please do a follow up video to show how the palette looks after some time of use. Thanks!
Hi Teoh,
Nice review on Charlie Lee's palette. Charlie is very responsive to his customers.
I purchased Charlie's Sketch Easel board and the 8-color palette.
OMG this is so beautiful
I have seen Charlie’s I would love to order from him but PayPal is a major pain in the ass. Would also love to see a review of his pochade box
Love the palette! What colors did you put inside?
something different dont have to deal with the individual empty pans
If watercolor paints stain that thing, it wasn't finished properly. As a wood worker myself, I can tell you that if the piece is truly made well, with a great finish, watercolor isn't going to stain it. And if that is the soul reason those mixing areas have an insert, then that already is indicative of the fact that it wasn't made to the highest quality.
I only pulled this video up to get a quick glance at how it is put together, now, I'm going to go make a better version as a gift to someone.
Great review - thanks! I find these palettes beautiful, and absolutely covet one :) .....That said, my practical side is worried about wet paint sinking in and being absorbed by the wood, leading to mold and decay. Plus, wood contains acid, which is why wood fibre paper needs to be treated with some kind of buffer, or the paper turns yellow and brittle. So I wonder if acid from the palette will leach into the paint over time? I think it would be better if Charlie could find a way to either line or seal the wells and mixing area. Maybe 3d print some inserts. Pragmatics aside, they’re absolutely gorgeous.
Oh😍😍😍😍 so lovely
I own White Nights watercolours. But I don't use it, I'm not even a painter. But I want this palette so much q.q
Nice, but I'm wondering how one would clean the empty pans when the paint is used up.
Nice
I like your voice 😁😁
I want one because of the portability 😅
How is the wood sealed? Would there be any risk of warping with the excess moisture involved in water color?
Looks like the wood is coated
That looks great.
Hi Teoh, how is the weight of this wooden beauty like compared to the usual metal tin /plastic palette types?
About the same thickness
If you like wooden palettes for watercolor, another one I could recommend to you/would like to see reviewed is the "Portable Sketchbook Palette" from the Esty shop "GoDrawPaintBox".
They are very pretty and perfect for travel!
I like it! I'm trying to get away from using so much plastic
Hi teoh! Long time no see!
i hope you have a great day!🤗💙💛

can you try huawei MatePad Pro with M-Pencil, Test writeing, painting, please :)please:) please:)and It's so great for vlog too:)
¡¡¡Saludos!!!
Not good for my OCD!
I will try to do it with Woodglut plans.
Cute palette. But no more than that. I have wooden palettes of Russian masters in my collection. And, compared to them, I like this one much less. It is not clear why the cells for paints are not additionally processed. It's a tree, damn it! Sooner or later it will absorb the pigment. Mixing zones are made extremely irrationally - a lot of useful space is lost. Plus, the fact that this zones has already begun to fall off in the video is a bad sign.
I'd love to see some of those wooden palettes that the Russian masters used. ( I'm not interested in this Charlie one as its ridiculously small and the mixing area is a bad design ).
Nice
