    Wow - that was just another great video! The Tote Man really came through with some awesome stuff. Aha, who doesn't like Laurel and Hardy! That little doll, at the very end of the vid, is kinda old, too. It may be primitive, but also does look to be from the pre-Civil War US. It seem to be 19th Century, just as that Hebrew bible also looks to be. In Hebrew chronology, I think something like 3700 years is added to our Christian dates. I know that it's not so easy, like crazy, to go driving to these various flea markets and rummage sale and auctions etc. But, it must be so incredibly cool in basically going on a treasure hunt each time as you're sifting through all of these sometimes wondrous things! Thank you for taking us all along!

    Great expedition to the Tote Man´s inventory with some stunning results ! Don´t tell Rebecca Romney about your great book finds, she won´t hesitate to come over from Washington and visit this flea market every week. Which proves again that the whole East Coast is a treasure chest for very neat old items. Great score on the book: "Alone together. A history of New York´s early apartments". Please send it to me when you don´t need it any longer. 😉 The Hebrew Prayer´s book should be from around 1885 (not 1985, perhaps a printer´s error), because it was edited in Hamburg and printed in Leipzig/ Germany. Books like these are higly sought after as "Judaica", congrats on this great item, Renée ! 👍 Greets from GER, U.

      Did you change your username on UA-cam? I've also just realized it now has the @ symbol in front of all names. Hmmm... Anyway, glad I'm not going crazy thinking that it's not possible that the Hebrew book could have been published in 1985. I'll make a note in the apartment book to send it your way once finished, though I have about 2 books to read prior to that one! It does look really interesting and filled with some great insight into a niche topic. Love reading those types of books! Hope your week has proven great so far!

      @@PaperandMoose Nope, no cheap tricks using "alias" usernames from my side ! It´s weird, because fareast was my first username on yt.
      I assume that someone took this Hebrew book over to the New World in late 19th/early 20th century from Europe. Tons of history behind this item, perhaps you can figure out who the former owner was. Have a nice Thursday afternoon, Renée !

The pictures of the children and their friends still facinate me. Even after almost 62 years. Nice, wide-ranging haul that I hope will bring you good return. I agree with you on the Hebrew prayer book. Hard to believe the 1985 date (though you still do see that kind of binding these days, occasionally). Love the tin type! Curious - does the Tote man generally get more or less cleaned out each week or do you think he donates some of the stuff, or something, so his items are not repetitive? At our (now hifalutin') FM, many vendors have the same stuff over and over - which doesn't encourage me to go often). Have a great Thursday afternoon. Hope the cleanup is going well!

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Рік тому +2

      I think it depends on the load for the Tote Man - if it's a decent load, he probably takes back only a few totes. Not sure if he donates or keeps to amass a larger pile and then sell at auction (easier to get rid of in bulk!). While the Google Image search on the app is pretty spot on, I'm finding that the translation portion doesn't work as well. It changes words/phrases multiple times when showing the same words, so that technology needs to be worked on a bit. Though I shouldn't judge, because there's no way I could ever attempt to develop any sort of app!

    With regards to the book that is in Hebrew: (1) remember that there is a Hebrew calendar with years that are different from the years in the calendar we commonly use. So year 2015 may mean something very different based on the Hebrew calendar. (2) the Google Translate app for your smart phone has a cool function where you can point your phone's camera at printed foreign language text and translate to English. That could help you with the Hebrew language book.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Рік тому

      I did that with the Google App - it first showed 1985 and then switched to 1975. It seems to do that frequently when I have text for it to translate. The first point shows one verbiage and then when I point it at the same exact spot, it's something different. The Google image search works a bit better for items, so perhaps they are still working on the translator!

    Horray, more fabric! Gee, I was hoping you might learn to sew!
    I picked up fabric today also, pkgs of 4 fat qtrs, for 25 cents. Yep, bought them all!
    Somethings gotta be wrong with the translation. I don't believe it's 1985 either. However, I have seen new bibles in stores that the manufacturer purposely designs so they look old style, even down to the paper. So it's possible, and then whomever/ whoever owned it used it alot and it got abused.
    Rats only one doll!😂

    You’ve probably already answered this question, but does “Tote Man” actually go by that name, or does he know that’s his nickname? 😄

    Good job. I wish you would've picked up the George Eliot collection in that first tote of books, but she isn't for everyone, I guess. I certainly had to warm to her, but that's a story all it's own. I liked your other selections. Will you soon need a larger house? 🏕🏡🏠🏫💒🏨🏥🏤🏦🏩
