Same here. I've got two M42x1 lenses for my Zenit-11 that would fit on Krasnogorsk-3, those cameras are easy to obtain, but on the other hand it's quite difficult to get some film here in Russia
Same here, in Poland. Krasnogorsk 3 cost around 500-800 PLN (130-200 USD), but I'm afraid that if I buy it, I will lose fortune on film and processing
You can always ask around in forums or, for example, FB groups and find the easiest and most inexpensive way to start shooting film. That´s how I got started. It´s worth it. So what are you waiting for? ;-)
Maybe someday... Now I will stay with still photography and my still photography darkroom :)

Thanks so much for keeping film alive. You seem about the same age as me (I'm 30 this year) and I always found older content fascinating because of what I called the 'dots and lines' - what I later learned was film artefacts. I love the intro on your channel, no idea who wouldn't like that! It's perfectly vintage and reminds me of so many idents from the 70s and 80s. It genuinely makes me sad that cinema is now digital - I barely go and see any films (no pun intended) now because I used to love seeing the 'soul' of the film at the cinema!
The new intro is amazing and looks even better on 16mm! Back in college, I took a class on shooting 16mm and used it as an opportunity to record a bunch of grain, light leaks, etc, so I could add those elements to digital projects. The grain actually turned out great and I use it all the time.
I feel like the next step in your logo evolution is to hire a chorus to sing a little jingle and record that on analog tape.

Great intro! Yes, 16mm is gorgeous. The 16mm package is a good idea. An alternative is finding expired 16mm film, which often is dirt cheap and more than enough for a camera test. Just rate it a stop lower if it´s around 10 years expired. Just my 2C.
Haha, I like the playing on your computer screen and then filming it on 16mm, I might have to do that with my production logo for my student film that I'm shooting on 16mm this semester. Great video! It was fun seeing the more experimental side of 16mm like with the double exposures!

When I got the filming bug, I looked at a lot of cameras. A friend had a everyday model similar to the Kodak. I wasn't impressed. Then I saw an ad for the Bolex S155 super 8 camera. I actually liked the fact the many of the controls for zooming and focus were infact manual. I liked the fact these options would make for great creativity. The fact also of the lens quality sold me. The price point was way above the others but with a liberal financial arrangement, the camera was mine. On many a project, I exposed many cartridges of film. Of course, I had to get an editor and learn how to assemble film lengths together. Many a presentation wound up to be 400 ft. long. Then came video tape. A whole different game, sound included!
Picked up a Kodak K100 turret a couple weeks ago and tested out a 100ft roll of 50d. Still waiting for another paycheck to send out this film and get it developed, but shooting it was wicked fun and getting the camera was super exciting. Can't wait to bring out this unreasonably large 16mm guy to family events for home videos. Also looking forward to more 16mm content on the channel, good stuff Noah
The K100 was design the way to produce a MORE stable film transport system. The stability of that image is unlike any other. It's quite spectacle.

Love the new (old school) open. Brought back a lot of memories from the 70s, running projectors in adult theaters. It looks like the opening of a Johnny Holmes-Marilyn Chambers movie.
I'd LOVE to shoot 16mm one day! But in the meantime, just seeing it being used it glorious, thanks for sharing!

For my old Cine Kodak Model K from the 1940's, I filed off one side of teeth on the feed sprocket so I could use single perf film. That's all there was to it.
SO DAMN NICE!
With shipping, it could take a bit a time but this small kit could be very helpful to test lighting and colors for a film project you are working on. Setup scenes, take notes, shoot short test for each scene and send it off. When it comes back, you can decide if you need to make changes.
At $106 a pop....
@@rock-steadi-cam5058 yep! All film formats, photo and motion, are expensive. If anyone finds those numbers too much, they can shoot Digital much cheaper.

The list of movies shot in 16mm is so much longer than most people realize. The Hurtlocker I know was done on 16mm, ironically, to save money.
I wish ANDEC Film here in Berlin Germany would do something like this as well...... A nice complete pack that you can use or try at overseeable costs so you can see if it's something for you or not, without having to worry about all the in between processes and making this a headache-free experience. I would totally love to do that since i've been wanting to go 16mm since i tried Super8 and just want more on a slightly larger format. Especially the steady picture.
Some larger libraries do have 8mm scanners for both regular & super 8, & if you live near or in a big city I think it's worth looking to see if your's does because they are usually free to use.

I “got into it” accidentally. I gotta med format still film camera & wanted an antique/vintage movie camera as a household display prop. So I gotta Bolex B8 with its std & tele primes. So after dropping that in conversation with a cousin, HE tells me he’s had my late Pop’s Bolex H8 REX since HIS late Pop passed it onto him. Pop musta lent it 2 Uncle .. early 60s .. my Pop 4gets about it, Uncle passes, Cousin inherits it .. but now back with me. That’s what I got .. 8mm .. turns out double the film economy. Having fun accessorising it. Havvan idea 2 shoot an animated sci-fi story .. illustrations or models .. the Super Titler will come in handy .. separate narration & music from my collection. Hard 2 find compatible zooms 4 these. Looking 4 tripod & dolly. Film is resurging here in Oz but I gotta source my double-run 8mm film from ur way. Gonna b expensive
"Orange filter" what you want is an 85 filter, an orange coloured filter won't do anything. Also, you don't need an 85 filter if you're going to be scanning the film as you can just adjust the white balance in post. The problem with using an 85filter is that its burned into the film. I've used 85filters before, these days I'd rather just edit the film in post.
I have a very similar bolex (1949 if I remember correctly). I need to reapply the light seal because I took it apart for CLA. 16mm is so expensive though, I'll need a good excuse at some point to finally shoot on it

You dont have to use the 85B filter as you can color grade it in post and take the cyan cast out. But if you dont want to post-edit it, then 85B filter is good lol

The short rolls do look interesting, but at the same time, I am wondering why they chose to give you 33 feet on 16mm instead of the full 100 feet, possibly upping the price by $20 or so to $130 for shoot, develop, and scan of a full roll. 33 feet would be good for double 8.
While I do think your new logo is quite rad, I do like your old intro too much to just let it go. Perhaps you could use your new intro on on your main line videos, and your old one on special content, such as the roll review or camera features. Possibly even begin doing expedition videos showing when you do go out and shoot (similar to Shoot Film Like a Boss), using the new intro, of course.
so this camwe is able to shoot double perf 16mm and single perf 16mm film ? i am bidding on the same camera on ebay
How would you check the gate between shots if you didnt run all the film?
You can check that area by removing the lens!

Two Questions:
Do you have any tips to load film in darkness?
Can you use this for a double 8 camera as well?
Loading film in the dark just takes some practice and if possible you can get some film leader or some film that you don’t mind ruining and just practice loading in the light with your eyes closed.
16mm film cannot ever go through an 8mm camera. 8mm film is 16mm wide but with double the amount of perforations so you would be damaging 16mm in an 8mm camera

Video @ 10:08 "double exposure" - Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure when this feature is performed on a MOVIE camera, it's instead called "Lap Dissolve"...
"Double Exposure" is officially referred to in the context of STILL photography. - Also, Bolex & Beaulieu instruction manuals along with their advertisements, agree with the exclusive use of this specific term.
The double exposure segment here isn't a dissolve. A Lap dissolve or a crossfade involves two images being exposed on top of each other only briefly as the previous shot fades out and the next shot fades in as a transition.

I have a 8mm sound Bolex SM8 projector that I inherited, does anyone still use these?
Could you shoot audio with the Bolex you have? Like small 1-2 minutes of audio?

NEVER improperly exposure cinema film as a safety net. Just exposure what you want to render as neutral gray.
Forgot Pro8 has a 16mm kit
You are lucky if you can get 1 minute of footage from 33 feet. I use Orwo Reversal UN54. You get 100 feet, film is cheap the developing reasonable and you can review on a projector or scan. I just think 106 is expensive for 1 minute.
I like the softness and color of that film! I see these cameras alot in Oregon thrift stores, I might give it a try. Thanks for this video and explanation. How do you convert to digital for sharing.
Man i really want to shoot super 8 more but 220 euro for just one cartirdge is too damn expensive and i dont wanna know how expensive 16mm will be

@@morpheus6330 It still doesn't cost that much. I don't know where you are, but I'm I'm in Australia and I paid the equivalent of at most 60 euro for one roll of film, development, HD scanning, plus some for postage. Where are you getting your prices?

16mm ain't cheap!
You must always expose film using a spotmeter, i shoot film for 10 years, s16mm and s35mm in the 90's and if you want perfect results read the spec notice and use a spotmeter almost like you will do for zone system on large format camera.
100ft would be preferable to 33ft . A minute is like ten shots. Who is doing 100ft nowadays, processing and scanning?
Pro8 also sells and processes 100ft rolls! Any lab that handles 16mm will process 100ft rolls no problem
