Discovered the Bolex B8L camera and purchased on ebay. Discovered it is a high quality, beautiful build film camera no bigger in size than a modern DSLR. Didn't know these things existed and fascinated by the antiquated technology. I will be trying some 8mm movie film through this camera which can be purchased through specialty film suppliers.
Awesome, wonderful film
I have one of these and all the accessories,It is really fun to work with. There are endless possibilities.Film is much better than video.
Evan Morgan where can I buy all those accessories?
This is so special
Justo tengo esa máquina en mis manos... Que suerte!!!
Thx 4 posting this period film .. Mid-century "hi-tech", huh?! Wonderful .. & superb Goodman/Shaw clarinet jazz soundtrack😊 .. sold my B8 with its visi-focus Switar lenses but kept a nice 1962 H8RX. 99% sure it was Pop's who lent it to Uncle & neglected to retrieve it (not wanting to "make waves" as he'd put it). Returned 2 me after being lent early-mid 60s, tho' I don't remember this camera. Had it😂 CLA'd & a weird Som Berthiot prime replaced with the full Switar RX set. Found a Som Berthiot Pan Cinor 40RX zoom which'll probably see more use than primes. Recently viewed "Beyond the Bolex" biopic made by Jacques Bolsey's grt grand daughter.
So charming! Love the retro graphics.
La musique est formidable!
Thanks for posting this,....though now I fear I may be looking out for the apparatus on ebay for a very long time ! :)
Love it
Amazing apparatus. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing, very nice film!

Nostalgia
film really has a unique soulful look
Love this!
Such patience! You'd need a roomful of equipment for even a short movie. Thanks for sharing.

Ok I’m obsessed with her white dress an Icon ❤️
It's amazing how far we've come.
I didn't know the days of wine and roses was extant in 1950. Always thought that it was composed in early 60's. Is that Paul desmond on sax?
What model Bolex is that? Looks like a late fifties to early sixties model B8L or later.
The Bolex was a beautiful piece of workmanship. Many thanks. BTW, I never saw her use an exposure meter to judge correct exposure.

I’m little more interested in their 16mm gear, But their 8mm gear don’t look bad to collect either! I just hope their super-8 gear isn’t prone to motors dying like many other battery op cameras.
@michaelrogge where did you get this footage? do you have a complete reference? I'm working on Bolex's promotional films.
what roll film can i use now for this camera? a double 8mm (standard) ?
do this work ? www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/792416-REG/Foma_411802_FOMAPAN_R100_B_W_Reversal.html
No, you need "Standard 8" for that camera:

Bon! Bon! Très bon. Je peut parler Français mais la partie quand le texte disait -Le disque tourne. Écoutez-le, j'était un peut confusé parce qu'on devrai voir la photographe!
I wonder if those title card units are available. Looks time consuming but fun as well. I would rather do it bu hand then by computer when possible.
This is to sick. Makes me want to buy one and learn how to use it! Think I am ha.
Actually, I think that's late 50s. That camera, the 8L came out in 1958.
My information is that it came out in 1947
Can an old Bolex shoot in color is this just a matter of choosing film? great post!
Oh, yes, it can and could, although after WW2 lenses had a special anti-reflection coating.
Oh I see now.. Thanks! I'm into Classic Surf films.. such as The Endless summer.. and I believe they used these types for location. Just crank and shoot.. ha
