Even at that time when Djokovic lost to Del Potro in the Rio Olympics, from what i saw in Serbian sports forums, there were always nice words of praise for Del Potro more often than not. He had a powerful, aggressive game, and could opponents off both wings. He was tough mentally, and he had the quiet belief that he could win against anybody he faced, including Fed and Nadal. And he was just putting it together, winning the USO and making the finals of Montreal and London, and we were all excited to see what he'd do in 2010 and then the wrist injury happens. The point at 8:17 was a fine display of just how dangerous DelPo was off of both sides when his wrists were fully healthy. His FH was, without a doubt, the scariest shot on tour, but his BH was not too shabby. Most guys have a stronger wing and weaker wing. You really couldn't call his BH a weakness. He would hit it hard, hit it deep, and hit it consistently, which only made his FH that much more scary.

      Sorry but no. Safin and Nalbandian were beasts and i don't need to spend words about safin, would be cliche. Even Davydenko was better than half players you named.

    • @kamizariuvingle3277
      @kamizariuvingle3277 3 роки тому +1

      That's absurd. Wawrinka was only on fire for 3 years and only on slams. Murray was one of the best indeed, but berdych, cilic, tsonga and nishikori are much worse than hewitt, safin, davydenko and nalbandian. This comment clearly comes from someone who did not watch tennis regularly back then or is just a troll. Safin and Nalbandian were incredible players and were a million times more talented than those players you showed. You didn't even talk about guys like Haas (an old mid 30's Haas defeated prime Djokovic in a masters 1000), Blake, Gonzalez, Coria (on clay), Gaudio (on clay), Ferrero and Soderling (the only guy who beat top form Nadal on RG. Nole defeated the worst version of Nadal), who were very good players too. Roddick was less talented, but his insane serve and good movement were very hard to deal with. His old forehand from 2003-2005 was a really good weapon too, until he changed it, using too much spin and lost power.

    Key takeaways:
    - Delpo would have been so good for tennis if he was at 100% more consistently. Would have robbed much more GS to the Big 3. Even his BH sucks here, it is way better than his 2017 form.
    - Nadal has been always such a good player at the net and with variety, especially since 2009 forward. That BH slice is quite tricky.
    - Nadals FH in 2009 was soooo bad (except AO). Way too overspinny, with no power and quite often short shot. It makes live quite easy to Delpo that captalizes to step in and bomb his FH left, right and center. Key point in this match tbh.
    - Last but not least: Key Biscayne >>>>>>>>>> Hard Rock Stadium. Nobody can argue against that.
