  • Don't miss my Meiomi Pinot Noir 2021 Review! This is one of the most famous wines in the US but why? Does it actually deliver a great wine-drinking experience? I taste the massively popular wine to find out for myself...

Hello, I'm a new wine drinker. I really love the 2021, but sometimes it's hard to find that year. I got the 2022 and it is nothing like the 2021. How does this work? Are there only a few 2021 left, or do they continue to make it the same way, and 2022 is just a different way of making it?

I just purchased a bottle of this swill this evening. I completely agree with you. Horrendous! Why use the beautiful and elegant Pinot Noir grape and make this slop? All I could taste was campfire smoke, sweet pipe tobacco, heavy vanilla and leather and a great deal of jam. I don’t understand why they would make such a monstrosity other than to compete with Apothic or Bodacious. It’s so dreadful it should be sold in a box.

Was it the 2022 you tried? I said I'd try the 2022 just to rule out the possibility that the 2021 was just a bad year. It's not something I'm looking forward to!

@@wine_turtle protect your palette from further insults: it was the 2021. Run away! Run away! I don’t think we are being too harsh. Not if they are producing that many cases, they can handle the burn. Honestly when I first had it in my mouth I though “Why would someone do this to the Pinot noir?”

😂 Agreed, it wasn't what I was expecting either!

I’m fairly new to the Wine World. This is my first wine where I’ve noticed a significant drop in quality, I promise it wasn’t always this bad lol
I had it on the same level as Francis Coppola Noir for a little bit.

I've heard this a few times. I guess quality always suffers as production volume increases so much. It's just a shame they don't feel like adjusting their prices to fall in line with the current product! 🙄

I've had Meiomi Pinot in the past and enjoyed it. Recently, I had a glass of it with dinner and was "disappointed". Thinking that, perhaps, the bottle had been opened for too long, I picked up a bottle of it at the liquor store where I work. On opening the bottle "fresh", I was met with the same disappointment as I had felt at the dinner. I was telling a customer of my concerns and the rep for Meiomi happened to hear us. He mentioned to me that there was a decided difference in the newer vintages, as they had changed the grape formula for the wine.
I still have customers that love the taste of it, but I will steer clear for now.

That's interesting. It's very unlike your typical Pinot Noir, that's for sure. I'd love to know what grapes they use!

I've consistently heard this wine is overhyped…good to see another similar review. Have to try the Kirkland RR Pino Noir…consisrenly hear good reviews 🙂 10:21

It will appeal to people that perhaps don't drink a lot of wine or prefer mixers and cocktails, but for me it's overpriced and there's better pinot to be had for the money!

I love this wine! Interesting, didn’t find it that sweet. I just tried a glass at an Indian restaurant- Bottle priced at 40.00. Been on the hunt for it- found it 18.00 at Cost Plus World Market (Calif.) but I’m going to get that Russian River Pinot Noir

From what I can tell it's getting worse each year. Or maybe the 2021 was just a bad year!? It's a very popular wine anyway. I'll pick up the 2022 next time I see it and do another tasting.

It is really sweet. I just picked up a bottle today. You probably don’t notice it if you drink it all the time. I had it a few years ago and didn’t think it was sweet . Either it changed or my palette did. Also this is the 2021 vintage. It is possible that the one you had at the restaurant was an older vintage which can make a huge difference. Like I mentioned I had this wine back in 2017 and didn’t think it was sweet at all. I’m very disappointed with the 2021 vintage.

I watched a couple of MW taste that a couple years ago. They tasted blind and then they started gagging and hacking. Nothing you said made me think it was a Pinot Noir, especially the color. I would have guess a Zin.

There's really not much about it that makes you think Pinot that's for sure! It's really unusual stuff.
American winemaking labelling laws dictate that it needs to be at least 75% Pinot Noir to be labelled as such. It could well feature a big dose of Zin

Meiomi spends a lot of money towards marketing instead of making good wines. It’s overhyped and overpriced.
