Norfolk Tawny Owls - An early return and mutual preening

  • North Norfolk, UK. A surprise early return for a pair of tawny owls to our nest box. They would not normally arrive until September of October. Even more surprising is the mutual preening between them. This is normally a prelude to breeding but this usually take place in February or March. Tawny owls have been know the breed in other times of the year so who knows where this will lead to. A pair that have used the box in the past raised a brood earlier in the year, but not in this box. This might be a new pair but its hard to tell. Like one of these birds, the female that was around earlier was also ringed on the right leg though.
    The camera is in night vision mode for this clip, which accounts for the black-and-white image.
