@@steelmastery2614 I'm going for a very period, French design, so I have both front panels hand sewn with double the quilting lines and am separating the back into three pieces as the original was. The pattern matching was the worst and I think I already told you about my cat eating half of my thread. Just got the new 5,000 meter roll in this week. lol
I have the pattern book for this I tried once and failed, that was with no exexperience. Been 2 years ready to try again . Your video will help me a lot thank you.
This is amazing to watch. I'm curious what they would have used, instead of batting, historically. Felted wool? Is there also a version that's just a bunch of layers of linen?
Thanks for sharing. I want to sew one myself one day, but I am frightened by the amount of work I will have to do without a sewing machine (making shirts and chausses was most I could manage so far).
I bought their DIY kit and got my own fabric for the outside. Hand-sewing is a lot of work, but well worth it. You can immediately tell the difference in that it looks so much more authentic.
@@steelmastery2614 The inner layer is slightly smaller than the out layers and they asked if this is due to easier sewing and comfortable while wearing
Does anyone know what the kind of batting used in this gambeson is called? Ive seen it used a few times now, but cant find anything even remotely similar
@@redCrossbandit3 Actually we have a supplier which doesn't have a web-site and he also have only one type of this wadding, which we buy. Here is another supplier which have few types of such wadding, but the quility is worse then we use. it looks like fabric scraps that have loosely been sewn together. They cut it to the garment and additional layers to slightly smaller so the seams don't get too large when you fasten them up. You can order how many layers you'd like. 3 will get you to most buhurt and SCA standards.
I'd definitely look toward there undyed linen for the interior. It is probably as good of a modern facsimile you can get. I'd hate to keep singing their praises, but they've been nothing but good to me. I even have an old, tempered cuirass by them that's seen plenty of polearm strikes. you won't be disappointed.
Hello, I would like to know if and where I can find a template or DIY for this piece on your website. I've tried looking around and can't seem to find it there.
This is Phoenix, the first to order your DIY kit. Thanks for everything, your customer service is unparalleled.
Hey! Thank you for your nice words :) In what stage your gambeson is? :)

@@AneurysmHooks Yeah, I remember about threads and the cat :)) But sounds like you made a lot of progress!

The Chinese would stuff their jackets with wool straight from the sheep as it contained lanolin and thus would protect against fire arrows.
Anything that is fluffy. Wool, hair, or old fabric collected for repurpose.

hola porque usas distintos tamaños es para que sea mas grueso el gambesón y a la hora de coser los bordes no sea incomodo coser ?
Hello! I am sorry, but we don't really understand your question. Can you please rephrase it? Because we want to answer, but don't know how :)

Would it be possible to just but the patterns and then purchase the cloths myself? I live in South Africa so shipping tends to be rather cumbersome.

Hello!
We use batting (wadding). Is it smashed fabric. We use 50% cotton, 50% wool batting :)
@@steelmastery2614 thank you so much for the info! Is it possible to get the information on your supplier? Id really like to look at options
