This remains one of the best things on the Internet.
+Michael Hightower - ditto! To this day, whenever the original comes up in conversation (ok, that just sounds so wrong!) I will link my friend/acquaintance to this gem! :)
I completely agree, lol. No matter how sad or pissed I am, this can always make my day a little better :)
I am sure Gilbert and Sullivan would love this version.. I think it would fit into their sense of fun
I would gladly pay good money to see this performed on stage.
Hi. You're absolutely correct about the great dancing, and the only reason it's included at the end is to give some respect to what is, by far, the coolest part of the movie. The crazy swinging arms thing that the main policeman does is endlessly fascinating.
This is possibly one of the greatest achievements in all of humanity. Thank you.
That's amazing!! I've seen a lot of people try to imitate G&S for parody purposes, but this is probably the funniest I've seen.
Still a pinnacle of genius after all these years.
@Robert Follows: That's an astute observation! You're totally right and I feel like it may be more musically akin to, say, Rodgers and Hart. But, the rapid patter is what made the G&S connection--obviously to the Major General. If you're super nerdy you'll hear some Kurt Weil in this.
Ten years later, and I'm still contractually obligated to share this with any friend who brings up the original.
Oh my god...SAME!!! I can't love this song enough...cant believe I've been listening to this for 11 years!
FWIW: I just discovered my boss's uncle is the founder of the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players (nygasp.org/). My first course of action, naturally...
Still delightful ten years later...
You know those golden records they sent out on the Voyager probes for aliens to find? This is what should have been on it.
My life was incomplete until I first saw this.
I so appreciate your talent! More!
Absolutely Brilliant!! God I love UA-cam! Hysterically funny. Fabulous editing. Please make more!!!!! I have never seen a G&S song I have loved more!!
This is unspeakably brilliant. Thank you for making my day.
This will never not be awesome! I'm always tempted to work it into an opera scenes program... lol!
Now to have this sung by Mordin from Mass Effect... That would make my freaking day.
One of the funniest things I've ever seen. I'm a G&S fan and Pirates is my favorite.
Just loved this!
It seems this is the 25th anniversary of the original. So I am naturally sharing this video around. THANK YOU!!
I've always loved this video. Every time I watched it, I'd laugh and think it was the weirdest thing I've ever seen.
Now that 2020 is almost over, I watched it again and it seemed perfectly normal.
Love it anytime I get sad I'll listen to this to cheer myself up
"Baby Got Back Gilbert & Sullivan Style" is a classic video that will never lose its appeal. It shines as brilliantly with pure comedy gold as 15 years ago when it was new..
This video is so brilliant that I cannot find the words to express just how brilliant it is. GAH.
The original version of this song was already my historical costuming anthem, because BUSTLES! And this is even better! :D
Pure, unadulterated genius! I love this video. Howlingly funny and addictive!
Fantastic! Excellent concept and execution - a juxtaposition of this nature always gets me laughing. Well done!
Brilliant in every respect. Bravo!!
OMG, that is absolutely BRILLIANT!!! I've watched this at least a dozen times, and will watch it at least another dozen times!! GREAT JOB!!!
Good heavens, Rebecca! Take a gander at her posterior! It is quite voluminous!
I love Gilbert and Sullivan, and this is amazing.
OMG this is amazing and genius. whoever made it , know you are genius.
Oh God...I love this.
BRILLIANT! PERFECT :) Thank-you for creating this fabulous homage to healthy buts and G&S
This is absolute GENIUS. Pirates of Penzance is one of my favorite musicals/operas/operettas, especially this film version, and the adaptation of this song is completely fitting to the G&S style----so this completely made my day. Hilarious!!
a true masterpiece, worthy of the ages!
Oh wowo! Whoever did the music for this cover is pretty much a certifiable genius. You have made my day.
I've watched this 5 times in 3 days. It makes me laugh everytime.
far freaking out!!! I know you didn't compile this in a half an hour! Loved it!!!
My grandson and I just had a discussions about rap and hip hop. I've got to let him see this.
That was absolutely brilliant!! Thank you!
Really, you have to watch the video while you listen for the full impact. The "so British I shit the Queen" guy singing this is comedy gold.
Holy crap. This was absolutely brilliant!!! Well done! This may have replaced Jonathan Coulton as my favorite cover of this song.
Bravo! As a G&S fan, I am speechless!
I actually laughed out loud great idea, brilliantly executed.
Well, this'll have me smiling through the week!
Hi, and thanks for asking. Believe it or not, this re-syncing didn't take long, though the music composition took about three months. Originally it was to be performed on stage, but the chick who ran the show and I broke up.... So, not wanting to waste this composition, I set the TiVo to record Pirates of Penzance. I basically sped up and slowed down the video to vaguely sync the mouths with the lyrics. I do wish it were synced better, but I like to pretend the flaws add to the cuteness.
I can't stop listening to this. Great job!
Sir-Mix-A-Lot received his titular knighthood from Queen Victoria for this jolly ballad, I recall.
Two very different things were brought together as if by a magical touch and it worked beautifully!
Too much awesomeness stuffed in those 4 minutes... *head explodes*
This is incredible. I really want to preform this now.
just a sociolinguistics student checking out a comedic video that displays standard American English being used to cover a song that we associate with the age dialect 😂🤷🏽♀️
This is amazing! Great job!
I love this, please do consider doing a Gilbert and Sullivan rendition of Billericay Dickie by Ian Dury.
Pure genius!! Whoever made this, I salute you!!! ;-)
This is AMAZING. Thank you so much for making this! Made my day.
Best rendition of Modern Major General I've ever heard!
T
(who has played Mabel on stage)
Even 15 years later, this is a total banger.
Whoever came up with the idea for this video is a genius.
Whoever sang the song is a genius.
Whoever synthesized the orchestra in the background is a genius.
And most importantly, whoever styled that guy's pimping mustache is an absolute genius among geniuses.
Love this video. Just...just freaking love it. Too awesome.
I'm laughing so hard that terars are flowing... this is hilarious!
This is absolutely brilliant! I'm an instant fan!
DUDE THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING i'm in stitches LOL!!!! so cool
u have made my evening
U deserve a blue peter badge
Still one of the best videos on UA-cam!
This short video was actually better than the entire movie.
More-More-More!
So beautiful. If only it had the opening "omg becky look at her butt" exchange, it would have imploded the planet with its epic.
absolutely brilliant. I have a college 19th century english culture prof that is dying lol. Whoever came up with this, KUDOS.
Wow. That's the best video i've seen all week. Very well done, good sir!
This is pretty much what I was thinking. This is truly fantastic. And certainly one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen (And given that I spend most of my day in front of a computer, that's saying a lot!!)
Five Stars, Favorite, and sharing the hell outta this!
culture isnt dead (standing applause clapping cheers bravo encore!! the cast gives a group bow and the curtians close).
I'm a huge G&S fan. This is utterly friggin' brilliant. Sheer genius. This will be in my head all week.
I nearly fell off my chair laughing! That is hilarious.
I first saw this video more than a year ago, but (sadly) haven't commented.
This is the greatest video of all time. Thank you for posting it.
I love people who have way too much time on their hands! BRAVO .. this is well done.
Ahh ... Pirates will never be the same again. A most ingenious videobox.
This is the most epic thing. EVER!
I haven't seen anything so brilliantly disturbing as this in YEARS!!!! WELL DONE!!!!
This is the video that got me into UA-cam, all those years ago. Thank you for that, genuinely.
Aww, thanks. Barring some help with getting the sounds right, and some of the ladies' backing vox, the audio is all me. So I appreciate your kind words quite a bit.
- Mike
Part of me wants to say someone's got too much time on their hands, but most of me is just damn impressed they managed to get the orchestra together and do such a good job of editing! I agree: this IS why the Internet was invented! :D
Oh...my....god, Becky! Look at this hysterical video! It's so big. It's just so round. It's like so out there!
Brilliant. Terrific.
Great job! Thanks
oh my god i can't stop laughing!! That's freaking hilarious!!!
thanks for making my day!!! one of the most funniest things ever!! keep on making the world laugh!!
Oh. My. God. I love it!!!
We should bring Gilbert and Sullivan back today. They would blow the doors off Hamilton.
OMG I love it. I was a little weary at first because, I was like "Baby Got Back" DOES NOT go w/ PoP. But, omg, I loved it! Nice job!
Never has a better major general sat, Homie G. Magnificent!
OMG I love this so much :) I play it all the time, its so perfect
YAY!!! Great editing and sound mixing!!
Literally what UA-cam was invented for!!!!
A true classic!
Best thing I've seen all night. Hands down.
I'm pretty sure this is the best thing on youtube.
So cool. Call me a Geek, I actually have this movie. My girl Linda can sing ANYTHING! And Kevin never looked better, especially with the eye makeup. Great job, oh boy.
Um why does this person only have 800-something subscribers? This is BRILLIANT.😂 (just subscribed)
If I'm havin a bad day, this is my go to vid....😅
Masterpiece, genius, you win, etc.
I heard about it from EW too...lol, and that totally made my life completely. That was awesome! Last time I was in P.O.P, I payed the flute. XD
Well done! Thank you so much.
I Loved this video. OMG, this is the best parody I have ever seen. brilliant.
I love Gilbert and Sullivan, so I dig this.
"Oh my lord! Rebecca look at her posterior. It is so longful. [scoff] She looks like one of those Jazz Musicians mistresses."
"No one can comprehend those Jazz Musicians, they only converse with her as she owns the appearance of a Lady of the Night! My point being, her rear is just so... decidedly substantial. I cannot believe that it is so rounded and... beside thought!"
+ GEORGE Witton Lmao! Perfect! This G&S interpretation of "Baby got Back" is genius
It says something about me that it only took me a few seconds to start reading that in Kevin Conroy's voice...
Amazing!
