we had a renegade lattitude in 2015 when they first came out. i fell in love with it from the youtube videos at the time. i just liked its quirky looks and its percieved capability. unfortunately i agree with everthing you said about it. the worst part is the engine and transmission. those are two pretty big things to hate about a vehicle. the other thing was the battery would die unexpectedly while it sat in the driveway. my wife wasnt working because we just had a baby, so the jeep wasnt getting used much, maybe once a week. the dealership told us to get a charger or drive it more.

I got a Deserthawk a few months ago and love it. It had just shy of 35k on the clock when I bought it. One thing to add about acceleration. These things don't like to be floored while taking off. I keep the accelerator half to the floor and it gets through the first 3 gears relatively quickly. Flooring the pedal seems to bog it down. It has great upper gears, but those first three aren't great and you definitely need to find the sweet spot on the pedal to get through them. I'd keep mine vs one of the Bronco Sports. Losing the extra inch in ground clearance is a deal breaker for me, plus it's half the price of a loaded Bronco Sport.

Wow looks like you had a bad customer service experience and took it out on the jeep.
But yes the bronco looks cooler and it's a new modified Jeep design . That's how I see it. I love the bronco, but I think it's to expensive for what it brings to the table.
On the other hand. Jeep has a longer life span than the Ford or Chevy. This brand is very tough. And any mechanic will tell you the same thing.
I also think 180 hp on a 4 cylinder engine is better than what you had a few decades ago. Like 90 hp on most 4 cylinder engines.
Actually the 89 Chevy Camaro had a 305 v 8 with about 160 hp engine.
So it all depends on what you want to use it for, and what is more eye catching. But yes if the bronco was a bit cheaper I would of gone with it.
I just got me a Jeep renegade. And those 180 hp move ok for me. And it's a very quiet engine.

Not good enough indeed. I love my renegade but it is seriously lacking and I will be trading mine in for a Ford bronco sport.

My 2018 Renegade Trailhawk with the 2.4 and the 9 speed seems way quicker than yours and its stock

The european version with the 2.0 170hp turbodiesel is the best for the Renegade...

Yes, they tell me it has improved. I hope the build quality has too.

@@TheAutomobile I can confirm it... I'm italian and I own a 2019 Renegade Trailhawk with the 2.0 170hp turbodiesel engine... And it's pretty good... The sound is more like a little diesel truck than a lawn mower and it have plently of torque.

@@TheAutomobile I have a counterpoint view of the Renegade. I own a 2015 Renegade Trailhawk. I have no complaints, and particularly none regarding build quality. I'm going on 73,000 miles with mine and nothing rattles or squeaks and everything still works like it is supposed to. It's still as good as new and when it was new, it was very good, indeed. No uneven panel gaps, no paint resembling an orange peel. No visible faults.
I think it might be kind of cool if my infotainment started functioning in Italian. My wife, who is originally from the Abruzzo region of Italy, could translate the bits I don't yet understand. But it works very well and continues to operate in English.
Power isn't a complaint I've got, either. It's as quick or quicker than any British roadster I've ever owned. It would eat my old 2004 Xterra alive in a drag race. The only four-wheel drive vehicles I have owned that were quicker were a 4.0 Cherokee XJ and a 4.0 Ford Ranger.
I keep reading about "clunkiness" of the transmission but I haven't experienced that, either. Mine generally picks the gear I would if manually shifting it and it doesn't seem to suffer the "confusion" or "hunting for gears" others complain about.
I wasn't sure how well "no real low range" would work for me, but doing a little math showed it to be as low geared (4.80 x 4.33 = 20.78) as my father's '86 Bronco II Eddie Bauer was (2.42 first gear X 2.42 low range = 5.8564 X 3.42 final drive ratio = 20.02888) and that went everywhere I've ever gone or wanted to go off pavement with no problem.
And four-wheel independent suspension is supposed to be terrible off road, and I didn't expect much out of my Renegade on the trail because of it, and yet it doesn't "sky" tires as much as I expected it to and when it does, it's irrelevant because the brake-based torque vectoring quickly and seamlessly transfers torque to tires on the ground.
I think the Renegade is a brilliant, well-engineered and well-built vehicle. It's the right size on the outside, roomy on the inside, comfortable, quiet, with good road manners, and I average 27 mpg in combined city/highway driving. That's a quantum leap ahead of the 14.5 mpg my five-speend manual / 4 x 4 Xterra got under the same conditions. It's a quantum leap ahead of that vehicle in terms of pavement road manners, build quality, reliability, and shockingly not that far behind in terms of off-pavement performance. In some situations, it's actually BETTER than the Xterra was and where it's worse, it's not significantly so.
Ford can keep their Bronco Sports. I'll not be wanting one as long as I can keep my Renegade in fine fettle. So far, it's only needed oil and filter changes, new wipers, coolant replacement, and new tires, so the long-term ownership outlook seems pretty bright.
