How Aronian defended his knight from like 16:00 was insanely instructive. And how Anad's bishop covered all the knight's options whether it was on a4 (Which aronian probably saw) and d1, which he probably didn't. That's why they're grandmasters, and I'm just some guy.
Mr. Finegold, I'm disappointed i no longer live in Atlanta. It's really a privilege to have all these great lectures to learn new ways to annoy chess players. Thanks for that. And thank you for sprinkling in some culture for the next generation to puzzle over as you get older.

The white to play Bf3 move at Lecture with GM Ben Finegold (The Candidates Tourney | Anand vs. Aronian) - 2014.03.19 removing one of the defenders on whites king was to protect against a different move. Aronian was afraid that it would become a monster but not by black moving Bf7 but to Bf3 forking whites Queen and Rook that's defending the king. It did look like a strange move though but his first mistake was moving the pawns from in front of his king. Love your lectures thumbs up Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis and Ben Finegold!!!
In 11:14 i think this is the plan not what ben said... Black predicts white wants to move his g pawn to g3 and be ready for F pawn to f4 attacking rook so black moves his bishop to c8 and stop white's g pawn move (because g2 pawn is defending h3 pawn)... After black's bishop c8 move white decided to defend his h3 pawn with another piece to be able to move g pawn to g3 and next f pawn to f4... And after white's bishop move black decided to move his rook away from danger... Im noob in chess so sry if my opinion is trash...
Great video. Lecturer remains amusing, bright, and enthusiastic without making fun of students. Now one of the best and most insightful on youtube, if not the universe. Who says evolution is not a fact?
+ATCFaust he might have been kidding when he said that. I agree, Bd5+ seems to win for white but I might be missing something. Two bishops for a queen and the only compensation for black is the past pawn which can be easily carried to queen with the help of bishops and rook. Hummmm! not sure
+Mr .Rodriguez Yeah, plugged it into fritz (6) and it looks like Bxc4 is the second best move (best is Qd7, threatening the pin the queen, and then Bd5 bxc4 and exchange everything on e6)
Runs into Ng4 from black threatening Nxe3 winning the bishop. Re1 is not possible in view of bishop on b4.If Qxg4 then Qxe3 check followed by Qxb3 winning the knight followed by deadly attack.
(I answered before that part, so correct me if I'm wrong) if a bishop attacks another bishop, should the g6-bishop be able to capture the h3-bishop? (I guess it's pinned
what about at 9:43 seconds in the vid where anand could have forked the rook and pawn with a move of bishop E3 to F4, that would have been a better move because it pins the rook to a another free pawn for Anand, I think both players missed that and so did Ben.
12:04 ... Be says, the knight wont take the bishop. But does anybody know why Ne3 does not work? If Bxe3-> Rxe3, and black traded the knight for the black bishop. if NOT Bxe3 .. the rook and the bishop are forked. If white moves the rook, black takes the bishop. If not... wel the rook. Anybody coud tell me? ------------------ And in the seond game: 37:05 ... ben says, Bxc4 is best, but black does not play it. What about ... Bd5+ ... as an answer? I don't have any chess-program (sorry. but I gess you all know the answers....)
On Anand, I find him a conventional player, positional and careful, unlike the brilliant Tal, Polgar (retired), Morphy, and Fischer. Carlsen, can be both at times, a bit inconsistent but the clear favorite in the upcoming battle of titans.
He would probably win zero games. When you put their ratings into a formula it gives: Your rating: 2840(Carlsen) Opponent's rating: 2483(Finegold) Probability of winning: 0.886457623663951 So Magnus would take almost 9 points in a 10 game match. Which is 8 Wins and 2 draws for Carlsen.

Wit, sarcasm and lots of chess insight dripping with dry humor. Love this guy.
***** And he is humble.
YOU TOO! MAN, WE SHOULD MAKE A CLUB OF SWINEGOLD FANS! I AM LITERALLY ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING! HAHAKRAHAKRAHAHAA!
Dripping with dry humor? Terrible.
I've got to be honest, I've grown to love Ben Finegold's dry humor
This dude has no chill -> "Nobody thought Anand can win. I talked to Anand's wife, she said:'Yea he can't win. Terrible.' " LMAO! I LOVE IT!
yes ahah xD "terrible"
Yeah, terrible 💀

"Aronian didn't see it and lost his knight".. I lost it there, hahaha!
Thank God Ben is back, I can start watching this channel again.
the demand for ben is high.
Ben is Back!
Ben is the only chess lecturer that I can watch. He's funny, knows what he's talking about, and is a good personality for chess.
good stuff SLCC
Hilarious and instructive commentary from Ben Finegold. Keeps the videos entertaining!
Yes, glad Ben is back. But I also want Ronen to return!
Funny, but very instructive as well :) thanks!

Ben is really great. My favourite lecturers are Ben and Ronen!
Oh my Gosh, this guy is damn funny. Great commentary on chess too. Keep it up!!!
BENNNNNNNN
Feingold is back!!!
He has a lot of back, front, side, etc.
Finegold is the best, by far :> keep em comming, I'll watch the shit out of every minute you post, fine sir!
Wheeee! New Finegold vid!
More Ben!!!!!!
17:35 "And that's the end of your Knight. Hate when that happens" I see what you did there
i always thought of the Dutch as an inverted/wrong side sicilian xD

Ben may not like to hear it...but I love the way he teaches...
What a great game.

WE WANT MORE FINEGOLD!
thank you very much, so good and funny with taste :D
Half kidding! 3 years! Brilliant!
Thank you GM Ben FInegold. When does Ken West become a Super Grand Master?
I like your humour!
"You'll play Carlsen and lose...and you'll get 1 million for losing" lolololol
27:09 why not play bxg7 then knight e7 and then qxc8?
good vid thanx
Ben
"Had a drawn position and decided to blunder" well at least I'm in good company. :P
I know this is an old video, but at 15:50 isn't Nxb2 better? I was thinking something like Nxb2 Bxb2 Bxh3 gxh3 Rd2+ Kg3 Rxb2
That final position...
Ben Finegold for President!!!!
Which software are they using to teach chess
At 15:47
wouldn't knight takes b2 be the best move because if bishop d4 takes knight then rook d2 forks the king and Bishop and wins the piece back?
In 11:14 i think this is the plan not what ben said...
Black predicts white wants to move his g pawn to g3 and be ready for F pawn to f4 attacking rook so black moves his bishop to c8 and stop white's g pawn move (because g2 pawn is defending h3 pawn)... And after white's bishop move black decided to move his rook away from danger...
Im noob in chess so sry if my opinion is trash...
At 38:44 Black replying by bishop to h3 locks on the rook and the bishop at g6. So, how was h6 a blunder?
At 39:15, can black play Bh3 or am I missing something here?
I am wondering the same thing...
Khalid Beg After Bh3, white can play Bf3+ and after black moves his king somewhere, white can just move his rook (Rf2, for instance).
U mean Bf7+ :)
Vinícius Borges no point in trying to take a rook when your getting mated
I can't believe my eyes that I found the move wooooooow
22:27 think that Bf3 was the only way to prevent Be2 forking queen and rook since the dark squared bishop prevents rook e1
Great video. Lecturer remains amusing, bright, and enthusiastic without making fun of students. Now one of the best and most insightful on youtube, if not the universe. Who says evolution is not a fact?
at 36:30 Bxc4 loses the exchange to Bd5+, I wonder which computer wouldnt see that
+ATCFaust he might have been kidding when he said that. I agree, Bd5+ seems to win for white but I might be missing something. Two bishops for a queen and the only compensation for black is the past pawn which can be easily carried to queen with the help of bishops and rook. Hummmm! not sure

When you move all your pawns in front of your king, there are no pawns in front of your king.
At 24:40 why isnt white queen E2 the best move? Looks really good to me.
Runs into Ng4 from black threatening Nxe3 winning the bishop. Re1 is not possible in view of bishop on b4.If Qxg4 then Qxe3 check followed by Qxb3 winning the knight followed by deadly attack.
Kf2 is also a winning move and even faster evaluate much over 1 pawn, why he said this ?
yeeeeeeeeeeeees
Even my wife laughs at your commentary, and she doesn't even know how to play chess.
at 39:34 can't black play Bh3 atacking both rook on f1 and bishop on g6?
(I answered before that part, so correct me if I'm wrong) if a bishop attacks another bishop, should the g6-bishop be able to capture the h3-bishop? (I guess it's pinned
+Bf7 check for white
hahaha, good sense of humour!
Ben is also good but where is Ronen ? we missed him
It's interesting to see Ben without a chess engine to help him see which side is winning. Then he says it's equal and it's because he says so :)
39:34 black's light square bishop to H3?? attacking F1 and G6
what about at 9:43 seconds in the vid where anand could have forked the rook and pawn with a move of bishop E3 to F4, that would have been a better move because it pins the rook to a another free pawn for Anand, I think both players missed that and so did Ben.
Black rook just go to C4 or E7 to defend the pawn, and white bishop on F4 would be weak and easy to be attacked next time
"slow and bad... he must of got lessons from me" :p hahaha
I'm sorry, but is this really Anand vs. Aronian from the 2014 Candidates? Didn't they play a Spanish, not a Slav?
I can't find this game score online is it illegal? lol
www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1750658
4Jakov ty
Anand violated the Finegold rule. Played F3.
"This is in your favorite city khanty mansiysk...". GM Finegold is unbelievably funny.
36:36
central bishop to d5 game is winn by white :)
I actually liked the blair witch project.
moar finegold
and very simple bxe3 wins to, the fortune of kf2 is that the king is one move forward and the position hasnt change in favor for black,
Why was bishop c5 a bad move
the ending rook move i didnt see ether :o clevor
17:58
I’m studying the semi Slav. I’ve seen this game way too many times
Mamedyarov is from Azerbaijan, not Russia
If Louis CK decided to invest his energy into becoming a Chess Grandmaster, this is what I would imagine it to be like. Great video as always Ben!
36:57 Bxc4 looks a little risky because of Bd5+
I saw that too. White wins the exchange after Bd5+ Re6 Bxe6
Bxe6
Checkmate in 2 with advantage
30:28
When you move all your pawn in front of your king, there is no pawn in front of your king... or you are playing bughouse xD
After his blunder h6, Svidler should have tried Bh3...
When your opponent plays Rg5 like that... Time to resign
I'm going to play Ben finegold when o-o-o my idea is to resign
are you missing a teeth ? ;D great lecture as always
------------------
And in the seond game:
37:05 ... ben says, Bxc4 is best, but black does not play it.
What about ... Bd5+ ... as an answer? I don't have any chess-program (sorry. but I gess you all know the answers....)
Kurt Nevermind Ne3, Bxe3, Rxe3, Rxc6 and you lost a pawn. Enough compensation for giving away the 2 bishops in an endgame
good. 16:22
awesome
ben is so funny :)
Karjakin always drawing sooo Bad... who played carlsen in the end?
Anand
1:29 lol the challenger turned out to be Karjakin.
+Vernie No that was last year's candidates (2014) he was talking about, which Anand won.
Sam J
Oh ok.
Still pretty funny though. And Karjakin had that huge near-comeback in 2014 Candidates.
Rook g5 holy crap..
Raawwrrr!!!
On Anand, I find him a conventional player, positional and careful, unlike the brilliant Tal, Polgar (retired), Morphy, and Fischer. Carlsen, can be both at times, a bit inconsistent but the clear favorite in the upcoming battle of titans.
Rook h5, bam!
why not Bh3 at 38:47 which attacks the rook and the bishop?
+Khalid Beg Then white plays Bf2+
+Jaydeep Chipalkatti I meant Bf7+.
Im confused how would playing Bh3 attack whites rook and bishop. I can see how the rook is attacked but not the bishop.
Ohhh nvm now i see it. Its a few moves ahead.
Jacob 😂😂😂
if ben played magnus 10 games how many could he win? is magnus way better?
He would probably win zero games.
When you put their ratings into a formula it gives:
Your rating: 2840(Carlsen) Opponent's rating: 2483(Finegold)
Probability of winning: 0.886457623663951
So Magnus would take almost 9 points in a 10 game match. Which is 8 Wins and 2 draws for Carlsen.
wow
tx
that poor knight.
Finegold has sacrificed a teeth
