    I find it so weird how Sarah’s dad didn’t like the fact that she’s going to marry an Asian man who’s not Muslim! He married an Asian woman who wasn’t Muslim either! Also how Sarah was saying he basically wanted a guy to just ring his door bell and ask for her hand in marriage before they even dated when Sarah’s Mum and dad got pregnant before marriage!

      He doesn't want her to go down the same road( future divorce)-interracial marriage is extra work and puts excess stress on the couple and the extended family. But in the end it's their love and choice.

      In Islam , men are allowed to marry muslims, christian and Jewish women but women are only allowed to marry Muslims ... Justin isn't religious which probably turned the dad off even more along with the fact that he had a failed interracial marriage...

      Religious people are hypocrites, so none of that is surprising. And Muslim men can marry anyone because it's assumed that if there are children, the man will "lead" and the children will also be Muslim. A woman's role is diminished within the family (which is hilarious, because women are the most involved with child rearing, in any culture), so, a Muslim woman must marry a Muslim man in order for the children to be led toward Islam...since, again, the emphasis is on the father "leading" the family, not the mother.

    Sarah's father went through the same thing with his father in terms of marrying outside the race/culture. So when his daughter decided she would marry a Korean, you'd think he'd be more understanding, afterall he started the ball rolling when he married a Filipino woman. Why is it ok for him to marry outside of the race/culture but not his daughter??? Ohhh the hypocrisy.

    My father cheated on my mom and as I got older my mom would tell me how he constantly made stupid financial decisions without her input or consent. We constantly moved and didnt have a stable childhood. My fathers parents never accepted my mom and treated my brothers and I differently than my cousins. She should break the cycle or maybe she thinks its and initiation of sorts. Your mother is a beautiful and worm woman. Can't wait to meet your dad and the other siblings. Anyhow.. This is beautiful ladies, thank you for your mother doing this interview on a personal matter in her life. Honestly I can say for your mom, it was truly a blessing considering the time that your parents met, interracial couples.. And or dating was still less accepted than today. But they over came thay barrier.. Plus the cultural differences. Amazing 💖💖❤ A beautiful strong and loving family.

    Tbh the Korean culture is A LOT like the Arab culture. In the Arab culture parents prefer that their kids marry an Arab, even not just any Arab but an Arab from their own country. It's veeery hard for an Arab to marry a non Arab, because the family is so against it. And when the love the Arab fought so hard for fades after a couple of years, that's when the family comes in! The Arab partner is not so much in love with the person any more, so she/he starts having second guesses. And because the parents don't really acknowledge his/her marriage to another nationality, they look for ways to change their son's/ daughter's mind. They think "he's just confused, he'll grow uo and change his/her mind later." And so they do. Family plays a BIG role in marriage in the Arab and Korean culture, because in marriage you'll not stay deeply in love for the rest of your life. You'll have to deal with each other for the sake of kids and the spent years together. For Korean families, I've seen a lot that don't acknowledge when their daughter/son marries a non Korean. They treat it like it's a temporary thing and their kid doesn't know what he/she is doing. They'll always bring it up and try to change his mind. If you want to make it work, RUN away from his family. Like in the Arab culture, in the Korean culture you're a sinner if you disobey your parents. If he goes back to Korea, not only his family is going to bash him, but other people will bash him too and call him an illoyal son for going against his parents wishes. I'm sorry for being so negative, I'm just trying to be honest. But again, if you want to keep your man, keep him as far as possible from his family.
    P.s. this doesn't just apply for non Arab partners. In general when the parents don't like your spouse, Arab or non Arab, they try to end the relationship.

      Her dad is not Arab, he is black and originally from Sudan (which is a predominantly Muslim country. He was living in Dubai and met her mom, who was from the Philippines there. He was objecting to the fact that her future husband was not a Muslim and would not convert, not because he is Korean.

    It was great seeing your mom!!! Her story is so interesting and it was beautiful to see your close relationship and her support of you.
    When I watched your first videos, I thought about the fact that your fiancé's mother had likely experienced rejection by her husband's family and was disappointed by your relationship because she'd wanted to prove to his family that her son would still have and be the best...Unfortunately, the fact that your fiancé is now doing the same thing as his father most likely would have been frowned upon by his grandparents (in her mind) or at least not the best that he could do, which would be something that would negate what she had possibly set out to prove she could still do for her son even though they'd disapproved of her.
    I hope you can follow that thought. I definitely don't agree, but I wondered if that could play a role. Anyway, always good to see your videos and that hair touching count is pure gold!!! LOL. Good job on the win!!! Hahaha.

      IsPrettyFaithful you just gave a very different viewpoint that i’ve never thought of. My mum disapproves of my boyfriend right now and i’m now thinking it may be because my maternal grandma’s approval/acceptance would be extremely important to her since my maternal grandma disapproved of my mum getting married to my dad.

    • @prettysemiD
      @prettysemiD 6 років тому +4

      @Karina Williams I definitely agree that Sarah is a great woman and that she has a lot to offer. The reality is that his family, if they open their hearts, have everything to gain. I hope you didn’t misunderstand me😇
      At the same time, I also believe in attempting to understand from another person’s perspective because often times it helps us to be GENUINELY kind and forgiving (and if all else fails, just being NICE instead) when we’re in a situation where, while it is not ideal, we really want it to work because we love someone. From what I see, its important to Sarah that they both are respectful to his parents and she’s thankful to them for their son despite the circumstance. I think if we try to step back from our view and our very real experiences and feelings, it really helps us in the end although other people may benefit. Even if we’re wrong about the real reasons, at least, we’re attempting to do things that will help us to continue to open our own hearts.
      Honestly, some people don’t even realize why they’re being a certain way and then definitely can’t vocalize it especially when there’s a difference in culture or subculture.

    • @prettysemiD
      @prettysemiD 6 років тому +2

      @yumyumyomyum Definitely could be the case. I think sometimes we forget that acceptance of one’s children (or not) can feel like acceptance or disapproval of the parents no matter who it is that has a positive or negative response (family, friends...that stranger sitting at the next table in a restaurant). How we’re able to deal with those feelings can definitely affect how we react.

    First HI. 2nd your mom is so young, but more important humble & smart. 3rd I Said it in one of your videos . I say that I was ssssoooo sure that your future mother in law had gone through rejection from her husband side and that she is holding anger on her. I said it, because I'm old and with age comes wisdom. That's why I can't understand why she can not even give you a chance to at least have a conversation. Just remember that God allows everything for a reason and a season. Just enjoy your love and cherish your mama always.

      I guess there’s at least this reason, where most asian call a girl beautiful when she has bright skin (which is not true at all!). Probably that’s why she don’t like Sarah, and Korean parents seem to be having this standard of a woman from her beauty and her family background.

    Mom is very smart and sweet:). She is very respectful even though I’m sure inside as a mama she must be pissed lol!!! Mama, we understand!! Lol! My stepmom is Korean, my dad is Japanese. I have 5 sisters, we stepdaughters all married white guys ( yeah not Asian), and one of my step sisters has a black boyfriend:). She loves us all as we are all happy and that’s all that she cares about:). We are all financially well off but as my father is quite wealthy, we are not rich, but they are proud we can sustain our own families comfortably. His mom hopefully will come around as I pray that this is troubling her so much that she is not a happy person! Mom!!! Choose happiness for you and your wonderful son!!!! Please!!! 😀

    I've experienced this, but in a religious point of view. We were both Hispanic and were madly in love, but her Pentecostal family soon found out that I was raised in a catholic household and my mom strongly believed in the catholic faith. I converted but her parents always hated me and looked down on me and my family. She would always deny it but when she decided to end it, she made it super clear. Its terrible when people hate you/ look down on you just because of some things you might not ever have control over.
