- Kristina Logan is internationally recognized for her precisely patterned, delicate glass beads, which she combines with metalwork to create jewelry and functional objects.
In this video, Logan demonstrates her process of beadmaking at the torch, finishing the glass by cold working, and incorporating her glass and silverwork into completed pieces of jewelry. She also discusses the history of glass beads and shares the philosophy of her work. Logan says, "Beads are part of my lifelong fascination with art and ornamentation. Glass beads form a historical thread, connecting people and cultures throughout our history."
A committed educator, Logan travels extensively, teaching workshops and lecturing on contemporary glass beads and jewelry. Her intricate work can be found in the collections of The Corning Museum of Glass; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Musée-Atelier du Verre, Sars-Poteries, France; and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington D.C.
Produced from 1998 to 2014, each video in The Studio’s Master Class Series presents a portrait of an artist and teaches a glassworking technique. Until now, these 30-minute videos have only been available on DVD.

I love glass. I took stained glass classes decades ago. Unfortunately, I had to stop creating pieces. I had three kids and lived on Long Island. Time and weather constraints since I worked outside. I string beads and create jewelry. I wish I could have taken a class creating items with glass, especially glass blowing. I went to The Corning Glass Museum once. I was in awe at the beautiful pieces there. They had a Tiffany panel there at the time. I stood there so astonished by the beauty, I had goosebumps. My then husband asked if we could leave because I was there so long.
I definitely understand why he is "then husband."
Pretty easy and low cost start up for stained or lampwork and you could be rolling in days, hope if you aren’t already you find some time, both really are an excellent hobby or profession.

@@Fuphyter I bought my first lampworking ‘starter kit’ from Devardi years back for about $80 and it had everything to begin bead making except the little gas canisters (which they sell at any hardware store cheap). I’m sure they sell for $10-20 more now and different companies probably have them too. It’s basic as you can get but all you need and a great place to start. But if you really think you’ll stick with it though one kit has a rod warmer with it for not a lot more money but it’s really helpful especially for a beginner. 🙂

No they weren’t Africans taking European beads to make beads. I’ve worked in that museum the earliest form of glass is Ancient Samaria than Egypt where cole potting was created. Why is everything always gotta be white washed.
