I have never had any luck starting marigolds from seed in spite of the fact that literally everybody says they are the easiest seeds to start 🤷🏽‍♀️ But this year, I got a response from Kevin at Epic Gardening (and owner of Botanical Interests seeds) and he said to just scatter them on top of the soil and then sprinkle vermiculite over them. The vermiculite allows light through but keeps the soil from drying out too fast. Well … guess what??!!!!! I have marigold seedlings this year! 🎉🎉 Woohoo!!!

I love your videos. I am laughing so hard with tears in my eyes. This has to be one of my favorite videos, Rachel. The look on your face ripping peppers off the bush while talking about how much fun it is gardening then throwing tomatoes. Your dog scratching the chair before settling. Todd and the toilets. 😂 This is the perfect example of my gardening days. 😂❤😂

For the nasturtium, I always take a finger nail file and file a little way down before I plant them. They take off like gang busters.

I started a lot more flowers from seed this year than ever before. Starting flowers feels like less pressure than food crops, like there's less to lose if they don't work. My veggies I have all counted out and depend on them, but flowers feel like a bonus. So if they work, great! If they don't, sow direct. Good luck with yours!

I wanted to do flower farming a few years ago. I think you’ll be better at it than I was, it didn’t work out well for me. It seemed like a bigger learning curve coming from veggie gardening than I expected.
Your seedlings are doing amazing! You’re a natural gardener.

I have to chuckle over morning glories. As a kid I had to hoe them out of the garden. I had no idea people planted them on purpose as a flower, when I see them as a pesky weed.

If you can find one of those little fans that clips onto a surface, put those in your greenhouses to help give it some more air flow. That will stop the green algae from forming on top of your soil. You might need to add some neem oil to a gallon watering can in case of those little gnats from getting into the soil and laying their eggs.

Beautiful seedlings. I'm hardening off all my starts this week, as we are about to last avg frost date of 14th. I too am doing the white marigold. They sprouted so fast and I started them a month ago. Already potted them up twice and they are outgrowing the quart containers. I got 100% germination on that same seed packet you are using...awesome stuff. And its my furst year of flowers from seed. So far so good. Only iffy ones are my purple petunias. Good germination, but not growing very much. We'll see.....

I'll buy them at the Mennonite greenhouse instead this year. I have broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage started and growing in the window sill. They are doing great. I started tomatoes a few days ago and am anxious to see them break ground. Thanks for all your motivation.

Thanks for the video tour of your seedlings. I can compare mine to yours. I just have 40% germination with my tomatoes so far. - Just placed by a window, inside. Used my bookshelf greenhouse outside to place the germinated ones in the sun during the day. Gets up to 90 degs in the sun! Planted them in shallow soil, bigger cells. I’ll add soil if they get too skinny scrawny. Damping off was a big problem last year.
I’m using AgroThrive 3-3-5 on them. What are you using?
I ordered some pepper seeds. My Dixondale Onion slips should ship mid-April. Got the Ringmaster, Redwing, Wala Wala combo again. Make sure you do a video on the planting.

I just got my onion slips(they came early actually)& we’ve had so much rain here in PA, our yard looked like a pond for days so we couldn’t get our raised beds ready. I’m still waiting on my tomato seeds, but my other seeds are started. We always plant marigolds in our garden beds. So last year I started marigolds I got in a seed package from Survival Seeds. However, I didn’t read the packet well bc they were GIANT marigolds. Holy cow, they looked crazy in my Greenstalk & garden.

I am new to doing flowers from seeds too.
I did last year here in zone 7 Tennessee, grow my marigolds with direct sow. I had no idea if they would grow, but to my surprise they grew perfectly and vigilant.
I also saw a video I watch weekly from Hooked and Rooted in Michigan where she planted her Poppy seeds directly in the snow.
She does that every year and they are beautiful. She generally takes her stratified seeds and directly puts them in the cold weather. Who knew ???? I will see if mine come up.
I have been watching videos from others and have taken from them.
I also love watching Laura from Garden Answers which is so good to watch for all kinds of growing and planting ideas. I also started recently watching Angela in Growing in The Garden, she has a wonderful garden and does a lot of videos I will be doing this year. She also does seed gathering and growing flowers.
She reminds me of a gardening show from many years ago I use to watch. In Square foot gardening. She also uses only worm castings for her garden.
I can't wait to see how all your ideas come to life in your garden.
Please look at their channels and let me know how you like them, I know you will definitely like Angelas channel she is definitely an organic growing channel.
God bless and see you in the next video. 🙏 ❤
