  • Recently I had a fashion photoshoot in the studio and I wanted to tether my camera to a monitor for my client to see the photos as I was shooting. I forgot to bring my laptop but wondered if I could tether my camera to my iPad. That's when I came across Cascable.
    Cascable allows you to tether your camera to your iPad over WiFi and USB allowing for a more stable connection. Cascable also let's you save and write to multiple storage devices instead of just your SD card and it also has camera automations allowing you to create and run with one push of a button. This app is full of awesome features and I think is the best app for photographers.

    Thanks for the video. I decided to buy Cascable, full non-subscription version. Excellent product. Along with FE File Explorer Pro these two apps are the most useful that I have on the iPad Pro M1 12.9.
    Using the iPad with the "Magic" keyboard (stupid juvenile name for a product), a bluetooth mouse, a Hyper-Drive 6-In-1 USB-C/Thunderbolt dock I'm able to tether my Canon 6D2 to the Ipad, take photos, either process them or save them directly to an attached Sandisk SSD (USB-C). Or insert the SD card from the camera into the reader then using FE to copy the files over to the SSD. Then from there, fire up Lightroom on the iPad to do some processing and saving to Adobe's CC. Or if I'm home, to copy across to the NAS on the network.
    I was trying all of this using the Canon Camera Connect app. Frankly, it's garbage. And the Canon 6D2 doesn't like it all that much either. BT or WIFI can be easily disrupted, too. Takes ages to connect and if you say, copy photos from the camera to the iPad then open the Photos app to look at them the connection to the camera is severed. Then go back to the app to reconnect, if it will reconnect, takes ages, too.
    Cascable has none of these issues.

    When tethered to the iPad can you zoom in or magnify the screen 200% or more and have it hold that display mode, as you continue to shoot? I'm looking for a way to do that, thus eliminating the pinch, or drag, to enlarge screen with each shot. That would be a hack for critical focus assist, and speed up my shooting workflow, and save me time in post.

    Really interesting option! I'm disappointed that there isn't a good Lightroom or Capture One app to tether for iPad yet. I always wanted to be able to switch my workflow onto an iPad for sake of size and using touch, the only thing that's been holding me back is the file/project management and inability to work between my desktop and tablet. So far I've decided to stick to a Surface pro using USB to tether to Capture One/LR. Are you able to edit photos directly on Cascable?

      @StefanoLombardoYT  2 роки тому +3

      Hi, so I've actually used this for some long shoots. One of them being four hours and I was tethered the whole time. The reason why I use a USB-C hub, instead of plugging the tether cable directly into the iPad was so I can charge the iPad at the same time. The hub I am using has another usb-c port on it where I can charge my iPad at the same time. I actually just posted another video on Cascable this morning about storage link and using it to give your camera another "card slot". Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/fHGZJ_phN_I/v-deo.html

    Am I right that if I want to use your solution for extra storage throught the usb hub, I need an iPad with USB-C connection? Otherwise, with a lightning-iPad, I would start with connecting a lightning-to-usb adapter (the one with USB-C port to connect to power). After connecting power to the USB-C port, it only leaves the USB port and that will not deliver power to the hub and the external storage....

    • @StefanoLombardoYT
      @StefanoLombardoYT  2 роки тому

      I am not totally sure how it works with iPads that still have the lightning port but with the iPad Air 4, all you need is a USB hub. It doesn’t need to be connected to power for it to work. It will still read your external ssd’s and hard drives just like a laptop would. The only reason why I bought this hub is because I still wanted to be able to charge my iPad while the hub is connected to it or else I could’ve just plugged my Samsung t7 ssd directly into the iPad via USB-c and not used a hub at all! It’s not used for powering the hard drives. If that makes sense

    After tethering my canon mark iv to my phone, i can only use my phone to take a photo. How can I switch to taking photos with my camera and not my phone?

    • @StefanoLombardoYT
      @StefanoLombardoYT  2 роки тому

      If you take a photo with you’re camera it will automatically display the photos on your phone or iPad. If you click on remote at the top and switch to photos, you can also see photos in there!

    Hi Stefano! Can Cascable save files to Dropbox? I would be connected to WiFi with my iPad and want to create a folder in dropbox to share and have Cascable save to dropbox and an external hard drive. I obviously will have saved pics on the card in the camera as well.

    • @StefanoLombardoYT
      @StefanoLombardoYT  2 роки тому

      Hey! So to answer your question, I did some testing and found out that you can't save to Dropbox from Cascable. The only folder you can save to is iCloud, I've even tried Google Drive and it doesn't work. I upgraded my iCloud storage for really cheap that way I can save to more places than just the card. So again the only thing you can create storage links to are your photos app, folders inside your iCloud and external hard drives if you have them connected. This is the same whether you connect wirelessly or by cable. I'll make another video explaining this soon. I hope that answers your question!

      Because the Canon 5D Mark III doesn’t have built in WiFi… it can’t work with the wifi option but should work tethered by cable!

      I don’t really mind it! Having a super long cable makes it easier of course but I just love wired connection so I don’t have to worry about wifi or Bluetooth disconnecting!
