  • Is an ipad photography workflow possible? In this video, I walk through my iPad photography workflow in 2021, using a combination of the iPad Air 4, Lightroom CC, and the Anker PowerExpand 11-in-1 USB-C hub to serve as a way for me to import, backup, cull, and edit my photos on the go and around the house (when I'm away from my desktop computer). Honestly, a Lightroom CC IPad workflow is extremely refreshing! Special thanks to Anker for sponsoring this video!

    Thanks Reggie! My laptop recently started acting up I and started searching UA-cam for other ways to make the photo work flow work. I’m not a professional, but enjoy working on my photography and learning from professionals like you. I stumbled across your video and was instantly hooked. It gave me a new way of editing my images. Thanks again and I’m looking forward to watching your other videos.

    Thanks Reggie! So good to have you back on UA-cam! My kids appropriated my laptop for virtual learning over the last year so I moved my process onto my iPad pro. I love it. @@Cearbhaill78 This is what I would like to do, but from what I have read the edits I would make in LRcc don't transfer to LRClassic where my workflow resides and images are stored. Is this accurate? I'm curious about your process. Seems cumbersome to have one organization/workflow/edits in the cloud related to iPad and LRcc, and another in catalogues on ssd interacting with LRc on laptop (I keep everything on ssd). Probably I just don't know quite enough to understand this bridge.

    Hey, Reggie. Nice tutorial. Quick question. In your example, you downloaded the images from the SD card to an external drive. Then you imported into Lr on the iPad from that external drive. Did that step copy the files onto your iPad? This has always been the deal killer for me with an all-iOS workflow. I was limited by the amount of my Lr storage because the catalog couldn't reference files on an external drive. Has that changed? On a different subject, I believe iOS 15 will finally give us a progress circle when transferring files.

    Hi Reggie.
    A question for you re Fuji raw files and worms/softness/blur in Lightroom on iPad that I think might be helpful to your viewer-base as well should you choose to repond….
    I’m a long time follower/admirer and Canon 7d2 shooter. You single-handedly got me interested in Fuji but I haven’t yet made the switch. Perhaps til now. The Canon R7 disappointed me and the X-H2s ticks all my wish list boxes. My only concern over switching is the dreaded Fuji worms/blur issue caused by adobe’s raw convert engine that still seems to get a lot of attention.
    I’m not interested in using Lightroom’s enhance feature or third party raw transformers as i don’t want the file size penalties or workflow time/complexity costs (your video on this a few years back was great and very helpful, thanks).
    Moreover I’ve pretty much migrated to doing all my culling and editing in Lightroom on iPad at this point.
    All that said, here’s my question…
    Is the worms/softness/blur issue still a problem today when editing Fuji RAW files in Lightroom, specifically on the iPad?
    If yes, is it an “all files“ or a “certain files“ thing, or not at all anymore?
    Also, if worms/blur is still a problem with Fuji in Adobe, have you noticed if there is a difference in Lightroom on the iPad vs computer at this point?
    I’ve looked around a lot and haven’t been able to assess this for myself. Hoping you might be able to provide some insight.
    Thanks in advance! Much appreciated. Happy your back. I very much enjoy your content and perspectives.

      Lightroom only. Camera raw engine and lightroom's raw engine is exactly the same.

    Good Day Sir Reggie.
    Its nice that I can watch again your videos. My question is about your thought on Topaz Sharpen/Gigapixel/DeNoise AI. Is it much better than that of lightroom classic CC or is it nearly the same?. Hope to hear your thoughts about these ones. Thank you for your answer. God bless.😁👍

    • @timothylinn
      @timothylinn 2 роки тому

      Yes, yes, and yes. You get superior results with Topaz at the cost of having to export a TIFF or PSD on which to use the plug ins. If DxO follows through on its promise to start supporting X-Trans files, PureRAW should give you even better results than DeNoiseAI. There are plenty of YT videos showing what all these products can do. The results can really be outstanding.

    I was looking into this but then read the m1 performs basically the same as the non m1 chip, the A12z. Apparently it’s bc the apps aren’t even optimized for the m1 so the a12z is apparently just as good, kinda surprised me .
    Do you have experience with the other iPads chips, like the a12Z? Or newer versions of non m chip iPads ?

    Weirdly specific question: Does anyone know if I can pick up where I left off editing off an SSD? So say I plug an SSD into my MacBook, edit the photos on it locally, without importing to the cloud in Lightroom, unplug it, and plug it into the iPad... Can I then pick up right where I left off? Edits made on the laptop saved, etc. etc.?

    • @Reggiebphoto

      it doesn't work that way. i'd recommend rendering smart previews, and syncing that to a cloud collection on lightroom on your computer. then go to your iPad, and download them from the cloud and continue.

    Hi Reggie. I am new to the iPad. I got the Pro M1 and find it to be a great entertainment device but difficult to use for photo management. Are you able to offload say around 1,000 RAW files from a CFexpress card reader to an SSD using the iPad and hub without failing?
    My XPS15 is faultless with no need for dongles and the screen is color managed. I was hoping to use this powerful iPad instead when travelling but it does not seem to work at all well for basic file management.

    My original iPad is second generation so I waited a bit to upgrade. My original still works ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA , but the battery is bad and won't stay charged so it always has to be plugged into a power source. The new 10th generation was a great bargain for Prime Day that I couldn't pass up. It was easy enough to set up: everything came down from iCloud with no issues.

    What I really do not understand, why you add your photos to files! You can import them directly from your SD Card into Lightroom. The photos will be directly uploaded when you are connected to WiFi. You have your backup with that correct, as long you do not delete them from the SD card. At your desktop you can keep a copy somewhere as they will automatically be downloaded. The advantage of this workflow is that you do not use the additional expensive Apple iCloud in parallel to the Adobe cloud. You do not need the external drive. This way it also does not take disk space on your iPad because of Lr file management which keeps the photos in the cloud.

    • @Reggiebphoto
      @Reggiebphoto  2 роки тому +1

      I didn’t put them in files. I put them in my ssd using the files app

    • @Rocodil
      @Rocodil 2 роки тому +1

      @@Reggiebphoto I understand, I overlooked that. Nevertheless, one can just import in Lr directly. In preferences on the desktop, select local storage and the files will be backed-up on your desktop hard drive (true imbedded in Lr) without the need of the external SSD. If you like you can also export original files to a different desk top location (with the benefit that you have your changes in the XMP sidecar). Anyway, the biggest challenge as you know is to manage all these different versions of the photos. That is why I personally prefer to keep everything in Lr -cc and nothing else. I like your videos, thanks!

    • @Reggiebphoto

      I download the photos to my ssd as a redundant backup. These are client files. If you don’t care about that then proceed as you see fit.

    With this, you only have your files on your ipads. And if you do 10 Weddings in 2 Months, thats not an Option. I don't understand, why all wedding photographers show these workflows, its not usable for client work. I have to have my files on my samsung t7 oder any other storage, i would never store my files on my ipad only.

    • @Reggiebphoto
      @Reggiebphoto  2 роки тому +2

      The edits sync over to the Lightroom on my computer (which has the hard drive with the files). I explained why I showed this workflow - to have flexibility editing while away from my desktop. It’s not practical in all cases.
