  • Sardinia has been of special interest to geneticists for decades. The reason being that it is the only place in Europe that has retained a genetic profile similar to the Neolithic first farmers of Europe originally from Anatolia. The paper “Genetic history from the Middle Neolithic to present on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia” in Nature Communications studies the genetic history of the island.

    • @sergpie
      @sergpie Рік тому +8

      Sardinia was a possession of many Spanish crowns over the centuries (the word for “ugly” where I grew up in northern Sardinia, is “feo/a”. There was much migration between islanders and Iberians, who would eventually settle in the new world (e.g. Mexico). I was born in Rome to ancestors I can trace back to only about 1875 who were within a 3-hour drive from the capital, but I have 19% Sardinian DNA; my hypothesis is one of our great-great-grandparents partook in the great internal migrations between regions that took place after unification in 1871.

      @@Scarlett-kk1kh You are totally wrong, Sardinians are predominantly Early European Farmer DNA. They cluster no way near those populations you are talking about. Did you not watch the video. Sardinians are European, they reflect a population that is largely similar to Neolithic Europeans. Anatolian Early European Farmers do not cluster with the populations you are referring to.
      Sazzini et al 2016 is a comprehensive Study on Italian populations. I recommend you read the paper. Figure 2 is what I will use to point out the major findings. 780 Modern Italians, peoples whose ancestors have a history there for hundreds, and hundreds of years; the peoples used in the sample, not recent migrants, were analyzed. As you can see in Figure 2, modern Italian populations form 4 clusters. 1) A Northern Italian Macro Cluster, 2) A Central Italian macro cluster, 3) A Southern Italian Macro Cluster, which Sicily is part of and 4) Sardinia. Look at the Plot, Sardinians plot just West of Tuscany/Lazio (Central Italy). Lebanese, Egyptians and Syrians plot up on another cline as you can see. Sardinians are not genetically related to those populations and are Distinct from them. However, Sardinians are indeed, similar to the Basque in Spain and France, a group of people who remain very very similar to European Populations in the Neolithic period.
      www.nature.com/articles/srep32513
      Kilinc et al 2016 analyzes 9 ancient Anatolian Early European Farmer Genomes (8,000 to 10,000 years old, See Table 1 for ancient Genomes and archeological sites) and plots them relative to modern Populations from Europe, West Asia/Levant and North Africa. Figure 2 is the analysis that clearly shows how Sardinians cluster relative to other populations. It is very clear that Sardinians are part of a Southern European Genetic Cluster, which includes all Italian Populations (North, Central, South-Sicily), Southern France, Spain, Greece and Albania. On the other hand, Syrians, Lebanese (Levant Populations) are in that Middle Eastern Cluster, but to the top end of it closer to Iran-Armenia. On the opposite end of that cluster, you find Arab populations (Bedouins, Saudis)
      www.cell.com/current-biology/fulltext/S0960-9822(16)30850-8
      In summary, the extant DNA literature does not support what you are saying 100%. Yes, you are correct Sardinians are a unique/indigenous people but they are part of the European Cluster genetically, in particular the Southern European genetic cluster, not the ones you are suggesting.
