Are there any instructions for key that has to go in ignition? I have keys programmed as Driver 2 and Driver 3. I would like to reprogram my keys as Driver 1 and Driver 2. Is there any instructions for that? (2018 Suburban)
@@terryjohnson3383 I think it's the same procedure as this will clear all FOBs associated with the truck
Well i think the fobs are fine. I want to know if the keys are totally separate from the fob. Basically once I put my key in the ignition, it says Driver 2 memory. With my other key, it says Driver 3 memory. Will this method erase keys or just fobs?
@@terryjohnson3383 sorry, I do not know.
I lost one of my key fobs and felt really uncomfortable not having a backup. I ordered one after watching this video because you made it so simple. Everything went exactly as your video explained. Thank you, kindly!
Worked like a champ. This dude out here like a modern day Robin Hood stealing out of dealership pockets and saving the working man a dollar. I got quoted $175 to program a fob, that was after $285 to purchase from the dealership. After purchasing a $95 fob and spending 30ish minutes to do the same thing, I feel like I owe this man a beer.
@@JasonFariss the only reason it's 30 min is so the dealer can bill you for all that wait time.
Worked like a charm on my 2021 Silverado 3500 with a new fob from amazon! With bucket seat/center console interior, place the fob in the rectangular area between the two cup holders to program. Thank you for the video! Saved me some $$$!
Just did this today on my 2021 sierra! worked perfectly! Saved me over 400 dollars.
I just used your video to program one off Amazon and it all works perfectly and I took our truck key out of our second GMC one, which had been ran over by a school bus, and inserted it in the Amazon one. We now have two perfectly working keys!
That's awesome, I hope the kids on the school bus are OK 😁
If you put the existing working remote in the cup holder before you start, then turn the key counter clockwise 5 times, the display will show “ready for remote 2” and you can program the new remote without wiping out the old one.
Also, adding a key doesn’t take 30 minutes, takes about 15 seconds
If you have NO working keys at all, then the 30 minute procedure is essential.
Any idea why when I put my fob that works in the cup holder, and turn key 5 times, I get start vehicle to view application
@@travisdieringer3420i get that with mine too
Is this how I would do it for my 2019 Silverado LD?
This only works on certain models and if you have 2 keys already programmed
@travisdieringer3420 It's a default notification that you need to dismiss. The key program notification is behind it. I just made this mistake 10 minutes ago. Now I have my 3 keys numbered wrong, and the 4th key will not program. I think the maximum is 4 keys since it won't at least let me program the 4th key as the 5th. Since I'm picky, I'm going to delete all programed keys and start over.
thank you sir for a very detailed video on this. I followed it and the procedure worked in getting a 'failing' key fob to work. We purchased a used 2020 Silverado a few weeks ago and they gave us two fobs with it but we didn't try the 2nd one until a day or two ago and it would not do anything. Found your video and it has saved a trip back to the dealer, possibly two times to allow them to do their 'thing'.
Thank you so much again!
Awesome! I'm glad this was able to help you save $ and time
OMG!!! 😳😲 I looked for a key online but couldn’t find one!!!! Never thought EBay 🤦♀️🥺 So I bought one from dealership 😢 BUT it was lunch time so they couldn’t program it (1 hour and ANOTHER $170) he told me!!! I was bummed and told them I’d return!!!! SOOO GLAD I FOUND YOU!!! I am trying this myself!!!! A friend of mine told me look on UA-cam for a tutorial I was afraid I couldn’t find one!!
Not all heroes wear capes.
I don’t ever comment but this actually works and saved me 500 bucks
Thank you for this video. Dealership wanted $500 for a replacement fob. $30 OEM from ebay and your video saved me $470. I did not get the extra fob key cut yet, so I'm sure that will be a few more $$.
I did this. FOBS still don't work. Replaced battery's. Had the front 2 windows and windshield tinted with ceramic film today. Started when I got truck home from shop. Water all over the dash when I picked the truck up.
Awesome. Thanks guys. Now the the tire pressure sensor monito warning light is on as well. Sweet.
Same thing just happened to me today after tinting my windows and windshield did you get it fixed and how
I did what the guy did in this video...
Next morning still didn't work.
I drove it for a few hours and it just went away.
I think it's moisture in the sensor in the dash. Needs time to dry out.
Worked beautifully
@@albertfuentes4386 nice. I actually got it to work for me as well...i think....I just drove it for a few hours the next day and the FOB started working again....I think running the heater for 3 hours just dried things out
Just received my 2nd key fob from dealer since my 22 Sierra only had one fob and luckily the dealer had it cut already ( they already had my Vin so that how they probably were able to).
Your video worked perfect saved me $115 locally to have it programmed
Awesome, I'm glad you found this video!
Used your video today on my 2020 GMC Sierra. It only had one key fob when I bought it. It has the split front seat, so the programming pocket is between the cup holders, but the procedure worked perfectly. Thank you for precise, accurate instructions. Everything was spot on!
Awesome, I'm glad it worked and that you didn't need to go to the dealer and pay 💰💰💰
@@PhoenixHavenGarage Me too! Found a new, GM packaged key fob online with a blank blade key, had a local locksmith cut the blade for $40, and followed your video. Being able to wipe and reprogram my old one and the new one was exactly the info I needed, so thanks again! Much cheaper than the dealer’s $400+ quote for a new fob.
Omg dude you are awesome for uploading this!!! I reprogrammed my old key and a replacement I bought off ebay!! Thank you soo much!
@@bryce6870 I'm glad you found the video and didn't pay the dealer $300!
Thanks man!!! I hit it done easily. For different model trucks the key fob holder is between the cup holders.
Now just gotta go get my key cut!! Appreciate ya!!
Glad it worked out!
It worked for me. I programmed 3 keys during this procedure. I have a 2020 GMC sierra at4 1500 diesel. Everything in the video worked for me. It was just a tad bit different since I messed up, or so I thought, and it still worked. My dashboard turned off after 30 seconds from the first prompt, right after you turn the key 5 times. I did as the video said by closing and opening my door but my dashboard was still off. I panicked and redid the 5 turns but nothing popped up. I took the key out and put my remote in the center portion in between my cupholder ( where my remote fob supposed to go when out of battery or programming). I tried to turn the truck on but no luck. I placed the key in my doors keyhole again and redid the 5 turns but nothing. I sat there trying to look up explanations. As soon as my timer hit 10 minutes the prompt came back up. I resume the the second push start portion from this tutorial. If this helps anyone I think the truck knows the 10 minute mark so all you have to do is turn the key fob 5 times and push start button when the prompt comes up every ten minutes. It’s super simple now that I’ve done it. Hope this helps anyone that is thinking of doing this. The video was great. Oh and I got my key fob from Amazon.
Worked perfectly! Could not have done this on my own without your video.
I'm glad you saved some money and got it working!
that 12 second hold is something NOT in the manual and is critical. thanks for bringing that up. had accidentally cleared my 2 good fobs trying to add a 3rd, had to go thru toe no recognized fob procedure.
Just used your new key khob steps on my 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 RST and it worked just as you said thanks for the how to video.
Awesome, I'm glad it worked out for you!
Thank you so much!! I Just did this for my 2021 Silverado LT Z71 worked like a charm!!!
Where did you put the key for programming?
@@Maxmanhidright? My center console is very different than the truck in the video I have a 2020 lt trailboss
I watched your video and I was able to reprogram 2 new key fobs. Thank you very much!!
I'm glad it helped you out!
Thank god for UA-cam the dealer wanted to charge me 150 to do this lol thx again !
Thank you! The dealership could have shared this with me instead they told me to have it towed to them.
Wtf? That is unbelievable! I'm really glad you found this video and saved yourself hundreds of dollars and time wasted with them.

Awesome video this work on my 2020 Silverado 1500 Duramax my remote had to placed in between cup holders
Giving away dealership secrets man because isn't this the same thing that they want to charge you north of $500 to do there?
Yes it is
I don’t know you. Nothing personal but i think i ❤You. 😮🎉
Worked on my 2020 Chev Silverado 🎉😊
People are funny. Yes, i appreciate the video. Some do better by visual than reading. But it's in your owner manual how to reprogram your fobs.
Fast and easy explanation, though.
Thanks for the video. Everything worked like a charm and you saved me a good chunk of money.
I'm glad you found the video!
Worked perfectly on my 2020 trailboss. Thanks
Worked with non-OEM $30 fob. But have to put key in transmitter to start 😕. Remote start, lock/unlock, and tailgate buttons work.
Worked step by step excellent on my 2020 RST. Thanks for the video.
Awesome!
I program keys at the dealership, and I just want to say, "You took my job!"

2020 sierra 2500 at4… worked great! Thanks
Worked for my 2021 GMC Sierra. Thank you for making this video
Worked perfectly! Thank you so much
I did this on my Chevy Silverado 1500 2021 Trail Boss worked with my original fob was trying to program the spare key fob they gave us at the dealership which turned out to be a dud does not work but now I have the car lock symbol on the dashboard( the theft deterrent system) anyway you can make a video on how to reset that I've already tried unplugging the battery no luck thanks for the video great job
I found this
To reset the anti-theft system on the Chevy Silverado You will need to get into the car and lock the doors. Now with the doors locked put the key into the ignition and turn it to the on position. Let it sit there for 5 minutes until the anti-theft light blinks. Once it blinks You will need to turn it to the off position, then turn it back to the on position. Now wait for a min and it will blink again. Turn it off then on one more time. When it blinks for the third time go ahead and start the engine. The anti-theft is now reset.
www.vehiclehistory.com/questions/how-do-i-reset-anti-theft-system-chevy-silverado-93695
Just push the ignition button to put the truck into the same selection/position as mentioned
Thank you so much. Your instructions were well appreciated Worked the first time. :)
I think the 10 min wait times are so the dealer can charge over 30 min of service time to everyone
Worked perfectly. Thanks!!
Worked like a charm. Thanks, Bud!!!
I actually got stuck in programming mode the first time I tried this. The original fob would unlock and lock, start via remote, but not allow operation of the truck. Talk about stressful situation 😅 Not my vehicle either. Some where through the process, I had hit a button on the steering wheel.
Got it out of this issue, and successfully programmed the original fob, but not an additional (it isn't exactly fob, but I believe it should work).
Trying again 🙏🏽
Glad to hear it got sorted out!
@@PhoenixHavenGarage
On second attempt, the same results. First fob programmed, second didn't. This time the service theft deterrent warning came on!
We tried to reset that via leaving battery disconnected for 15+ minutes without success.
We managed to override the theft deterrent system by holding the key in the door lock, in the unlock position for 30 seconds. It then allowed the vehicle to start.
The owner took the vehicle to a dealership and they quoted him $741 for 2 fobs!
The service tech claimed the fobs are 1 use only, as in can only be "programmed once" LMAO!
Service tech also told him by having fobs that aren't for the vehicle inside the vehicle while programming breaks the working fobs. Talk about a piece of work this person is.
The owner of the vehicle is non-English speaking, and in my opinion, being taken advantage of by a greedy gm tech.
Pretty certain GM service techs are financially motivated by labor hours from previous experience.
While out of town, my wife was charged 11 hours labor to change 3 fuel injectors. On an LS3 engine. Amounts to 10-12 bolts and maybe replacing O-rings.
@@tbaker9409 11 hours for fuel injectors on an LS? Nothing beats a trust worthy mechanic.
Can you tell me how you got out of programming mode I think I did the same thing and now I can’t do anything
How did you fix the issue?

Will this process work on a 2022 Silverado?
I have a separate key .. No keyless remote. Will this still work? Also I don't have push button it a key switch. Will this still work by turning the key to push the button
I do not know, but the website where I found the instructions to make this video has instructions for all of the different key options: www.programautokeys.com/classified/2019-chevrolet-silverado-ignition-transponder-chip-key-programming-instructions-listing-9400.aspx#.Y1v9cnbMKM-

Thank you!!! It worked !! Appreciate it!!!
Thanks saved me $80
🤘🤘
Yours the best man!
How much was it to cut the new key from ebay? Thanx by the way! This will save me a ton of time and money!!!
The key has to be cut at the dealer I think. The fob was like $30 I think.
Does this also work for 2021 custom Silverado without a keyless start button
This is where I found the instructions that I filmed. I think it had different instructions for multiple options on the vehicle. www.programautokeys.com/classified/2019-chevrolet-silverado-ignition-transponder-chip-key-programming-instructions-listing-9400.aspx#.YvZvcHbMKM9
My truck doesn’t have that little compartment in the center console for the key fob 2020 Silverado
Check the seat compartment below the main armrest compartment as I show in the video. Otherwise I'm not sure where else it would be
When you’re waiting the 10 minutes where are your fobs? In or outside of the truck
They do not need to be in the truck until you need to insert them into the programming slot in the center seat compartment.
Glad to see it worked for many people. However, i have one working transmitter and just need to program the other. My new transmitter, fob, has the key cut. It works. I can lock and unlock with key. When i start the very first step, my dashboard does not display anything. Blank. I turn the key, counterclockwise 5 times. Nothing. I use both working transmitter key and non working transmitter key, the one I want to program. Should all doors be unlock, tailgate closed. Should i have my non working transmitter already in the slot to be programmed? Hold my breath? jump on one foot while barking like a dog?

Okay. Same link I used for the instructions. I remembered that my truck came from the great white north, so if I read correctly, these steps will not work, and I have to take my fob to a dealer.
My extra fob on my 2020 Silverado went missing, so I needed another one. Got it off Amazon for like $30. Started the process and got super nervous because my original fob stopped working, would only lock/unlock and remote start. Wouldn’t push to start anymore. Kept going through the prompts - and ended up with a second key fob again! Definitely was scary at first when I couldn’t start my truck. Also, you need to follow the timer to a T. I was maybe 30 seconds early and got nervous not seeing the next step pop up on the dash. Trust the process! Thank you!
This was Great 😃. Thank you
Very helpful, thank you for this video!
Thanks for the support, good luck!

2019. Yes everything works
I did this and now my theft deterrent on now a lock popped up and answers to this
Same retrying the steps again
Seems the new remotes only lock/unlock. Wont do tailgate. And one remote starts. Other won’t. Can I start over and reprogram? Or is this a one shot programming per remote?
You can do this as many times as you like.
Mine did the same, did you figure it out
Hello I am trying to help my BIL he got a 2020 Sierra AT4 and only got 1 key with it. He has 2 new keys he wants to program. I am getting stuck on the first step though. I opened the door all the way and put the key in the door and turned it counterclockwise 5 times and the screen on the dash goes dead. It never goes into "learning" mode. My Key fob is acting up like the battery is dying and randomly saying "remote not detected" (replaced with a new battery)
Dealer wants $250 to diagnose.
Would you happen to know if re-programming my fob will solve my issue?
Maybe the fob is faulty/failing? Do you have more than 1 fob? I would suggest getting a new fob so you have a 2nd one, then attempt to re-program. Make sure the truck is parked out of the way of things in-case re-programming fails. I do not know too much about troubleshooting the fob system. I only found instructions on how to re-program a fob and made a video covering it.
I bought a 2019 Silverado at auction came with no keys would I be able to do this procedure if I start out having no previous fob?

Hey bud, did the steps and got the keys programmed but after the complete set up still says no key fob detected, we changed batteries in both remotes, any idea what else it could be?
Hhmm, maybe it's something with the truck's electronics? These are both new fobs?
Yes sir both new, we recently discovered a rodent of some kind has been chewing on the interior and thinking it chewed on some wiring as well.
