The public needs to be educated about the benefits of energy efficienct buildings.
Air sealing and blower door testing is under appreciated. Air sealed, super insulated, triple pane windows, high efficiency heating and air conditioning systems, high efficiency appliances, LED lighting systems, set back thermostats, 2/6 or 2/8 wall construction with thermal breaks, solar panels with battery storage and an EV charger in the garage. Saving energy saves money on utilities and makes the building more comfortable.

Seems like all buildings should have larger over hangs. That would protect the walls from rain and water damage as well as provide shading to keep the building cooler. Planting trees should also be part of any new building designed for energy efficiency.

A very nice build with a great deal of thought and foresight used. Nice choice of materials and manufacturers. While all this leads to increased costs initially, it all pays for itself in the long run as the occupants enjoy a more balanced and cleaner environment. Good job.

Nice vid and lovely home. I’m wondering about the BAL rating on the imported European windows? Is it possible to find out what BAL rating they had to comply with?

Air sealing is an under-appreciated technique in home energy conservation and construction.
A blower door test and leak sealing are a great way to make a home more comfortable and save money on utilities.

Would love to hear more about the floor. Is this not polished concrete flooring? I'm told over and over again polished concrete flooring is more expansive than the conventional options. Thanks

It really depends on two things. One, how you want it to look, some people want a particular colour which might mean more expensive aggregate. Secondly, the other main cost is the cost of the actual polishing

Could you recommend a window/door supplier for the European tilt and turn system that would deliver to south coast nsw? Doesn’t necessarily need to be officially certified. Finding it difficult to find tilt/turn suppliers...

Great video. Seems a bit uneducated for the client to have a wood burner in her home when she wants clean air by also having a purifier system. Wood burners emit toxic indoor and outdoor pollution. Besides that it’s a great house.

Of course: the greenest home is the one that is never built.
But this is same argument made against people who preach sustainability yet still fly in airplanes or eat beef.
I think you have to start somewhere. Better that oil go into making energy efficient products than not. Perhaps one day, those manufacturing facilities will use renewable to power their business.
