Great video and editing! I really enjoyed watching it. It's very hard to find Descent gameplay videos with this quality. Also thank you for the files you shared!
Thanks for your comment! It’s nice to know that people pay attention to these things. I find that so many playthroughs out there - even some produces by the big guys - are just so boring to watch because of the dead air time, as well as keeping the camera static on a wide shot. It’s just lazy and it irks me to no end. ...... ok ........ need to breathe..... 😂 Thanks again!
If you're after a 'Free Play' mode, apparently 'The Delve' which is a digital expansion for the app offers a randomised dungeon or something. I haven't tried it, but it has been suggested and recommended to me a lot 🙂
I absolutely love Descent 2e (I have everything for it!) and play it solo but I'm also one of those screen-dodging app-haters. That said, I'm really looking forward to watching this and seeing how it plays and what adventures and stories transpire 😊👍
I’ve got a sort of love-hate thing going on with Descent - as you’ll see in the video - but I still have a lot of fun with it every time I play! 😅 As for the app, it’s far from perfect... And it’s a ´necessary evil’ if you wanna play solo. Unless you go with some of the fiddly (if, very smart) analog variants. But you probably already knew that... 😉
@@TheMountainGamer Yeah, those variants can be a bit fiddly. But when I can't be bothered with those, sometimes I just play controlling 4 characters AND the Overlord. It ends up being more of a story-creation experience rather than a 'game' but I still love it 😊
Good to see someone house ruling this. I've tried the tutorial campaign solo (4 heroes) several times and except for the very first training mission I get my butt handed to me every time. I can't believe how hard the game RAW is
House rules is what I'm all about over here! 😊 Yeah, to say that this game is swingy is an understatement. That being said, maybe try it with 3 heroes instead; I've found that it favors the heroes' side a bit more.
At 41:48, wouldn't Jain have to shoot her bow *before* the master Flesh Moulder even did its spot action (because that was the first thing it did after being activated)? Ah, I see it doesn't matter because she's shooting the Merriod anyway.
Yeah I think you’re right; if I had used First Strike on the Flesh Moulder, I would’ve had to attack him before he could Spot. But as you say, I chose to attack the Merriod, so, it didn’t change anything.
Hi - just discovered this video. Just to clarify, I can play this game solo as long as I have the app? I read that there is only a solo mode if you adjust the rules, so a bit confused, thanks !
Hi there! With the app, you can play solo; there's no need to adjust the rules. I tend to play with 2 or 3 characters, which is more fun. I also have a lot of house rules to make the game more fun *for my tastes*.
These videos are amazing, thank you for making these! Any chance you could spoil us and try out a game or two with the RedJak RAMV variant (if you've heard of it of course)?
Thanks for your comment, Jonathan. I looked into Redjak’a variants and, while I appreciate the incredible amount of work that went into them, I don’t see myself gaining really that more out of it, versus the app. RtL, in my opinion, serves pretty much the same purpose and it’s just less management overall. If you’re really interested in it, you can look deep in the UA-cam bowels; I believe you’ll find a few filmed plays (not as expertly crafted as mine, though! 🤣😉).
So glad you did this video! Thank you 😀 Also thanks for the new Caves cards! Is there a post somewhere you can point me to on the appropriate X-Wing rules to incorporate? Plus perhaps a list of other house rules you use?
Thanks for you comment. For the house rules, everything you need is in the description (link to my Google drive). Not sure what you mean about the X-wing stuff though?
The main things to use are in my files, I think -- but have a snoop in the BGG forums for Descent 2E. I personally use: - large monsters cannot move diagonally. - when you recover Stamina, any amount that spills over your Stamina limit gets turned into Health Points. I know some people use the Imperial Assault line-of-sight rules, but *we* don't. You'll find those in the rulebook: images-cdn.fantasyflightgames.com/filer_public/ef/86/ef866943-534b-429e-b8db-7d99875431b7/imperial_assault_rules_reference_guide.pdf
Fantastic video editing! Finally someone actually showing closeups of both screen and the board. Also very nicely explained gameplay! Descent is also a love / hate thing for me, but in the end it is still awesome. Playing solo, there are a few options, and all come with pros and cons. Redjak Automated Monster (and the Automated Overlord) I cranked up to hardest difficulty, no problems, I often found it too easy. On the plus side, you get to play with the original content! Both base games and I think all expansions are added. Road to Legend App, very unforgiving. I keep loosing to it, because of the app keeps pummeling you down. You never know when to kill all creatures, or run and make the app just despawn them. You basically need to replay the game soooo many times (because quests are often random) to understand all the mechanics for each missions. Example: I stand in a room (first one I think), with some pillars, no monsters. Fine, I know it will spawn stuff, I cannot do anything other than activate the pillars. All heroes are ready to run or fight, optimal positions, ready for whatever comes my way... so I think. Seemingly weak Zombies spawns, immediately immobilizes a third of my party, next thing I know, I lost two, because the roof caved in (the other two barely made it out the door!). There were NO WAY to actually get out of that situation. No "action - reaction" just a "your dead" event. I hate (hate hate HATE) the moral thing when you die. Valkyrie - fanmade app using Road to Legend resources, but retrofitting campaigns of the actual boardgames and its expansions. I hope it is a best of two worlds. Eager to try it out! Road to Peril - fanmade physical version of Road to Legend. This looks amazing, having a new RtL type AI, but still its own thing. Looking forward to try this as well.
7:50 Well, yeah. They don't tell you what the steel broadsword does because you are suppose to have the physical game and the tiles and pieces. The app is mostly free, so if they gave you everything with the app, why would anybody buy the game?
Thanks for your comment, but I have to disagree with you somewhat. The app is complimentary to the physical game. Even if the app had more / all of the information listed on some / all of the cards, it wouldn’t render the physical game obsolete. You still need the map tiles, the minis, the dice, etc… I think my criticism at 7:50 is a valid one. It would’ve been extremely easy for them to have a copy of the card pop up, and it would’ve made the experience smoother.
@@TheMountainGamer We are going to have to agree to disagree. I don't need the mini's nor the map pieces. I could use chess pieces to represent the monsters and characters and a chess board with toothpicks to outline the shape of the tiles of the dungeon. I could use pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters to represent the search tokens and such. As you already have a lay out of what is on the dice, I could easily use a 6 sided die with each box you have printed being numbers 1-6. Even the rule book can be found online for free. The only thing that is keeping people from needing the game is what is actually on the individual cards, character sheets, and monster cards...plus the scernario books. With that said, I do agree with you that it would have been nice to list the character, monsters, and equipment stats on the app, I just think if they did that, they'd have to charge for any use of it and none of it would be free. Overall, I think when you buy the physical game, you are getting a free solo play app with it.
You said that if the red number (which is actually called Morale) reaches zero, you lose the scenario. I think it's slightly better than that: you can be on zero, but the next KO will trigger the scenario loss.
At around the 1:09:00 mark cpuld someone explain why the flesh guys wouldnt retreat? They didnt move so then went onto the next action which stated attack then retreat, in my mind they would attack and if they have any movement left (all of it) they would retreat.
Yeah, you're right about that, I think I messed up. The prompt says "Attack the closest Hero, then retreat". So... since they didn't spend any Action to move in any way, they should indeed get the hell out of there right after attacking me. And then they'd be officially done with their activation. Thanks for pointing it out! :)
