5:00: What you are trying to explain there is called a bearing, not the "reverse heading" 🙂 The ship has a heading, i.e. the direction the bow is pointing in, but when you are trying to assertain your ships position with the compass, it is called taking the bearing to x object. It can be fairly accurate, and is still used in modern navigation, although these days most of us gets the bearing off the ship's radar sets. Safe seas and following winds to all. Take care.
I have nothing to add except my admiration for the continuing work. This is EXACTLY one of the kind of games I’ve daydreamed about but don’t have the time or skill to build myself.
Like many of us out there, played the demo and loved every seconds of it. Can’t wait for release on Steam. First min purchase, no doubt. And happy to read this is SP only 👍🏻
For what its worth, a simple fix for map could be "thought" numbers. The idea being that its okay if there are player info numbers *on* the physical map, so long as they visually track as being "in your head" Of course no issue with diff map either, but if you want to do another simple fix for zooming etc., you can use a fun cheat which is a *pile* of maps, and when you zoom out, you grab a new map, put it down, and now the map is zoomed out. Pan left? New map!
@@2eightnine what he means is that you go all in on that the player has to read his instruments, remember, and mark the map. That the GUI elements that gives you hard numbers and that the map is auto marked and made into a gps map is not necessary. And perhaps not wanted. Why not go all in on the setting, eh?
Looks really interesting. I'm very hopeful. I hear the wind howling, the sails are reasonably full, though flapping around a bit and the craft appears to be achieving 1 or 2 knots at most. What was the wind strength during this clip please? How are the sailing physics coming along?

Could You add a "map drawing" feature? I am thinking of a UI with stencils that could be used to plot a terrain and then have a visual filter to make it look like a "hand drawn map" ?
The game has not been released yet -- but there is a demo available with some of the content shown in this video. store.steampowered.com/app/2895440/Following_Seas/
I think its a mistake to not make this at least fantasy lite, you can still make it realistic but the ocean is a big empty place and the same job day in and day out will get monotonousness, it can be as rare as you like though
It is a fantasy setting actually -- it's just not a conventional 'pirate' setting, so there's no sea monsters or skeleton pirates -- but there are things that go bump in the night.

@@redguard2946 thank you 🙂
I'm happy about the single player only thing too. Multiplayer tends to ruin the games for those who enjoy playing alone.

Maybe I'm thick, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by thought numbers?

This is gonna be awesome!
The video ended and then I got another 10 minutes of music. Very relaxing!
What do you mean? Did the video not play all the way through?

Hi Dev! When will be released?
Soon TM. Realistically mid 2025 is my target.
@@2eightnine Thanks! WISHLISTED! ❤
Are you planning on making it moltiplayer or is it gunna be singleplayer only?
Singleplayer only at this time.
Not really need another multi one. Love Single player game where for ones it is you in the game and one Els can alter or destroy your game.
@@rayhanvanbeelen9754 yeah I agree but it would still be nice to be able to chill with some friends on
@@russelladams9229 true for that, but let’s say Co op before anyone gets some wierd ideas 😊
I've been dreaming about a realistic sailing sim! Could this be that? :P
I encourage you to try Sailwind before this comes out
if dangerous encounters will be a thing, why not add ability to use canons then?
Less for combat and more for deterrent
This is planned. Most of the ships other than the caravel already have spaces assigned for cannon.
Please address the aliasing before it becomes harder to fix.
VR,?
God forbid!
It's on the wishlist -- but not a major focus at this time.
Hello
Is it me you're looking for?
