Thank you Pau NG for this wonderful Messa, excellent performance. In the works of the church music, he reached the highest heights. His operas are unfortunately largely forgotten today. At the Neapolitan Conservatorio di Sant'Onofrio and with the Poveri di Gesù Cristo he trained Farinelli, Caffarelli, Salimbeni, and other celebrated vocalists, during the period 1715 to 1721.Other students included composers Matteo Capranica and Joseph Haydn. A good linguist, who was admired for the idiomatic fluency of his recitatives, and a man of considerable literary culture, Porpora was also celebrated for his conversational wit. He was well-read in Latin and Italian literature, wrote poetry and spoke French, German and English.

Listened to the whole 36 & half minutes with absolute amazement. Granted they are all professionals, the singers' ( both choir and the soloists ) voice control is outstanding. Very operatic throughout. I downloaded it. This is going to be one of my favorite church music. Thank you for posting glorious music. 💞

So true, so true. To the extent that Haendel is good, he is Neapolitan. He was trained there. Lascia ch'io pianga. Fantastic aria. But it's Italian. Compare his entire Rinaldo of 1711 with the Neapolitan version of 1717 mainly organized by Leonardo Leo. I think the latter is better hand's down. They should expand the orchestra of the latter to the size of Haendel's and there is no longer any comparison.
