Snake's final costume, the R-secret one isn't Big Boss's appearence from Peace Walker, but rather how he looks during the ending of MGS3 when he's awarded the title of Big Boss.
1:31:26 yeah, this is definitely based on SA1 Sonic, specifically after collecting a few upgrades. You can tell from the yellow bit on his shoe, and that wristband which gives you the lightspeed dash
12:06 Boshi is also Yoshi's "warui" counterpart as his Japanese name is Washi (which is funny because much as Squaresoft made Boshi, Camelot, another third party made Waluigi).
1:28:59 Hey, at least you didn't confuse Big Boss with Solid Snake! That's better than 90% of the Smash community, excellent job doing the investigation for this video
The pink Knuckles is most likely a reference to his look in Sonic’s route in S3&K. They made him look distinctly pinker and gave him the yellow shoe tops to not corrupt the hud.

One of my most favorite aspects of every Smash Bros. game is all the (often obscure) references to past video games and related content, so it's really cool to see these fan mods run with that idea.
For all you mentioned in the Lucario section, there's one detail you missed. The reason the Dan reference is a green Lucario is because of Dan's connection to Blanka, whom he trained. Blanka's had multiple costumes in a pink gi as well.
I have an idea for what the costume at 1:12:09 could be. That costume could be in reference to Frey, one of Marth’s allies from the prologue to Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon. Frey disguised himself as Marth to sacrifice himself so that Marth, Jagen, Cain, Abel, and Gordin can all escape the Gra army safely. As we never actually see what Frey’s disguise looks like, this costume could be seen as a possible hypothetical idea of what that disguise may have looked like.
13:30 I feel like the Dark Dry Bowser skin was a reference to Dry Bones’ dark skin from Super Mario Sluggers, the color scheme to them look very similar!
13:30 The chances of this are pretty slim, but there might be an origin of this costume from the Mario Baseball games. In the games, Dry Bones has a few color variations, one of which is called “Dark Bones” iirc. His color scheme reminds me of this Dry Bowser recolor.
1:32:24 I think this costume is a reference to how Knuckles appeared in base Sonic 3, where he was a very light red, almost pink and also where he had yellow socks, like in this costume.
I gotta say Project+ really knows how to deliver on the references and fan service, little details I love are Peach’s Alts changing her Uptilt to Fire for Fire Peach and Dark Flames for Shadow Queen.
I think that Marth’s hooded costumes could be references to Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, where there is a scene where the three lords need disguises and simply put on hoods. Which is/was a meme in the fandom
1:32:25 This Knuckles alt is not based on his appearance Sonic Mania, but instead on his appearance as a non-playable-character in Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles. There he had pink-ish fur and yellow shoe cuffs due to palette limitations.
I feel like ROB's red and green Mario Kart alts could be references to Mario and Luigi; specifically, the Mario and Luigi Wiimotes, with the inclusion of blue and yellow in both costumes like on the WiiMote. really fun video btw, very much enjoying this trip down memory lane with project m :)
1:21:30 Actually. The green wii IS an official console.... an unused one. At the E3 presentation back when the wii was known as the "nintendo revolution", we saw a lineup of wii consoles in different colors: White, Black, Red, Green and Silver. While white would become the launch color and both black & red were made available later on, Green and Silver never saw the light of day outside that presentation. I'm very certain that R.O.B's green wii costume is based on that unused wii console color.
1:32:13 I think it's actually pretty likely that the cyan alt is a reference to Chaos from sonic adventure 1, the green ascents could be referencing his green eyes, he may be referenced because of his connection to the knuckles clan who were properly referenced.
One thing worth mentioning for Ike's costumes is that the armored costume changes his sword from Ragnell to Alondite, the signature weapon of the Black Knight.
Hey amazing video! Just wanted to add on, the hooded Marth skin was originally a PR skin made for Massachusetts' very own Sora (now Sokokopuffs) made by Baka.
Luigi's Peach costume actually has an earlier origin with the Super Mario World comic that was featured in Nintendo power. To trick the koopalings, Luigi dresses as peach and peach dresses as Luigi.
1:21:39 Believe it or not, the trend of the R.O.B. console skins having games in them does not skip the GameCube, but it's a lot more subtle. If you use the camera to clip into R.O.B.'s head in the GameCube skin you can find, what else, but the disc for Super Smash Brothers Melee in the system!

I never knew about linebeck toon link being an actual reference because I never played triforce heroes. I can actually see wind waker link wearing an outfit like this when he got older. I guess it was such a good look they couldn't resist giving it to TH link.
R.O.B. was also represented in F-Zero, not playable mind you but he's in the background in Port Town in F-Zero GX so that might be another reason why it has the F-Zero recolor.
Lyn from Fire Emblem, Isaac from Golden Sun, and Sami from Advanced Wars wete also planned. I've seen attempts to finish Lyn and Isaac but sadly Sami goes ignored....
This video's HUGE! You should definitely take a rest after this. Also the Blue Casino Luigi could possibly be a reference to a cowboy disguise he once wore in the Super Mario Bros Super Show, which has been infamously known as "Racist Cowboy Luigi"
1:21:33 Also to say I believe this color scheme is a reference to Yoshi. ROB has pretty much the same color scheme as Yoshi and the fact the main appeal of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is being able to play as Yoshi again
30:13 Um, actually, The Hero’s New Clothes are not the same as the Outset Island outfit. They are given to Link by his Grandma in NG+, where it is shown that the clothes are actually invisible, so Link just puts them over his normal clothes.
1:28:56 That’s the outfit Big Boss is wearing during the ending of MGS3 & MPO I can’t think of a single time he wore that outfit during Peace Walker outside of promotional images
They completely skipped out on giving Link the Deity Sword when choosing the Fierce Deity Link costume, that would've been so awesome to have! As well as switching the sword Toon Link holds to the Four Sword when selecting the Minish Cap costume
Not sure if you keep up, but they updated him to have the guilded sword instead of the master sword as refrence to its exclusivity in majora's mask. If they used the helix sword, it would look kind of weird considering that it's a big 2 handed sword, and making it small would look weird. Fortunately however, they included it in his final smash.

the Dark Dry Bowser costume is a reference actually do Dark Dry Bones from the Mario Baseball series, having the same color scheme as that costume with Boxer DK's pink and yellow alts, while they are original, they are the Smash 4 and Ultimate colors Piolet Wolf's blue is in fact based on the Ultimate design, so you're on the nail there Lucario's black gi while commonly is seen as original, is also often seen as a reference to Haihachi from Tekken Ness' purple PJ recolor, is original, but is meant to be for the Brawl Mod, Brawl Minus with ROB's gamecube alt, while not as noticeable, the game that is inside is head, is you probably guessed, Super Smash Bros. Melee Sonic's Black racing suit while not looking like much, is actually a reference to Shadow's racing suit Sonic's Z-alt is in fact SA1 Sonic, in fact i know, cuz i'm the creator behind that alt costume, it's SA1 Sonic with all his upgrades from said game Knuckles' Z-Alt while you are correct there, is known officially as Treasure Hunter Knuckles, coming from the mobile games Sonic Dash, and Sonic Forces Speed Battle, which served as a sort of updated and more distinct version of the OVA look
your big chungus videos are always a joy to watch, thanks dude!! -ok Peachalina is pretty top tier, also, i really want Peach's Smash design to be re-adapted to the main games -so apparently, Charles Martinet intended Wario to have a german accent. that & the Mario Brothers being Brooklin-inspired, which honestly would explain better why the only Italian words he knows are food -oh god the Animated show version of Funky Kong... -actually could we just replace Dorf with Ganon entirely, Buff Pigman looks so much better -no idea why is with fans & Nintendo Lawyers alike that don't allow for Smash Pikachu to wear jackets even tho Let's GO Pikachu & the CosplayChus where Pika Libre comes from are Fully Clothed -& ironically the Rocket Armored Mewtwo ended up becoming a thing in Pokemon GO -kudos to the Dev Team for NOT going Lucario an Orange Gi -they might say that's Dark Samus but bruh, that's just the Other M Federation team -that last Big Boss costume is from the ending of MGS3 actually, after he completes the Snake Eater mission -oh wow i actually wish they gave Sonic a Werehog re-color in Smash Ultimate, also coincidentally, that Red Sonic does look similar to Fire Flower Sonic from the now obscure SMBZ Flash Parody... oh god i miss Newgrounds era Flash animations
I think Knuckles' green color is probably meant to be a reference to "Chaos Knuckles", a form he takes on during a storyline in the Archie Comics where Knuckles becomes overcharged with Chaos Energy and his fur turns green as a result of this.
For Marth’s hooded alts I think it’s meant to reference the thief class also as the thief would usually hide their face. Not sure if it’s right as I’ve only seen gameplay of Fire Emblem and the wiki, but never actually played it. Any fire emblem fans pls correct me if I’m wrong
45:51 - 46:01 You're right. I nicknamed my GameBoy game Mewtwo, "Zordon" like Zordon from "Power Rangers" and it has this color scheme in Pokémon Stadiums 1 and 2. Plus it matches Zordon's color from the series.
1:07:00 Not a solid reference? Excuse me but that blue and orange pattern couldn't be more obvious. It's the player 2 character, known as Prince Fluff, from Kirby's Epic Yarn.
I love how *Project M/Project +* have costumes that are obscure references, they really shows all of these characters unique histories throughout the years *Hopefully we see Costumes like these in a Official Smash Bros game in the future*
Though with the third party stuff it is very hard as many of those companies are very protective of their character image and will stiffle any kind of creativity very hard.
The hat Pikachu wears that you mention references Chase could also be associated with the earlier appearance of Red from Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon at the Battle Tree
1:19:34 I think Mario Kart R.O.B.'s red and green alts could be a reference to Mario and Luigi, with the Gamecube emblem given to the green alt because it is the console were the first Luigi's Mansion was released
A couple of things about Knuckles for people who wouldn't know at first: His blue alt could actually be a reference to a glitch in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, in which Knuckles will turn blue and has Tails' name His black alt is obviously based off of Sonic's black alt, which is inspired by Sonic the Fighters when two players play as the same character
The lighter red color of Knuckles is actually a reference to his palette in Sonic 3 as an NPC. You can tell because of the yellow socks; something he only has in Sonic 3. Also, Casino Luigi's blue alt may be in reference to an episode of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, where Mario and Luigi...are at a casino, I think? A single frame of this episode became something of a meme a while back.

Knuckles Z costume is actually based on Treasure Hunter Knuckles from the mobile Sonic games, which itself is a reference to the OVA.
Dark Dry Bowser is a reference to Dark Dry Bones from Mario Superstar Baseball and Dark Bones from Paper Mario: TTYD.
Spectacular video! I learned a lot from this! Thank you for putting this together!
@@666blaziken I didn't know about this, that's cool. I don't play Majora's Mask that much but I imagine it must be fun to see for others that do and I don't think I heard of the Helix sword
That green Omega Samus looks like it could reference Halo Spartans, being green with a yellow/gold visor
Now that Project + 3.0 is finally here, its probably a good time to update the list!
Somebody please tell Aaron about this.
1:21:30 I think ROBs green wii is also the color scheme of yoshi with the white and orange.
That also explains smg2 as yoshi was in that game
the Dark Dry Bowser costume is a reference actually do Dark Dry Bones from the Mario Baseball series, having the same color scheme as that costume
with Boxer DK's pink and yellow alts, while they are original, they are the Smash 4 and Ultimate colors
Piolet Wolf's blue is in fact based on the Ultimate design, so you're on the nail there
Lucario's black gi while commonly is seen as original, is also often seen as a reference to Haihachi from Tekken
Ness' purple PJ recolor, is original, but is meant to be for the Brawl Mod, Brawl Minus
with ROB's gamecube alt, while not as noticeable, the game that is inside is head, is you probably guessed, Super Smash Bros. Melee
Sonic's Black racing suit while not looking like much, is actually a reference to Shadow's racing suit
Sonic's Z-alt is in fact SA1 Sonic, in fact i know, cuz i'm the creator behind that alt costume, it's SA1 Sonic with all his upgrades from said game
Knuckles' Z-Alt while you are correct there, is known officially as Treasure Hunter Knuckles, coming from the mobile games Sonic Dash, and Sonic Forces Speed Battle, which served as a sort of updated and more distinct version of the OVA look
30:23 Outset Toon Link's shield has the same symbol from Outset Island's doors.
1:06:52 the blue one is meant to resemble Prince Fluff from Kirby’s Epic Yarn for Wii and 3DS
your big chungus videos are always a joy to watch, thanks dude!!
-ok Peachalina is pretty top tier, also, i really want Peach's Smash design to be re-adapted to the main games
-so apparently, Charles Martinet intended Wario to have a german accent. that & the Mario Brothers being Brooklin-inspired, which honestly would explain better why the only Italian words he knows are food
-oh god the Animated show version of Funky Kong...
-actually could we just replace Dorf with Ganon entirely, Buff Pigman looks so much better
-no idea why is with fans & Nintendo Lawyers alike that don't allow for Smash Pikachu to wear jackets even tho Let's GO Pikachu & the CosplayChus where Pika Libre comes from are Fully Clothed
-& ironically the Rocket Armored Mewtwo ended up becoming a thing in Pokemon GO
-kudos to the Dev Team for NOT going Lucario an Orange Gi
-they might say that's Dark Samus but bruh, that's just the Other M Federation team
-that last Big Boss costume is from the ending of MGS3 actually, after he completes the Snake Eater mission
-oh wow i actually wish they gave Sonic a Werehog re-color in Smash Ultimate, also coincidentally, that Red Sonic does look similar to Fire Flower Sonic from the now obscure SMBZ Flash Parody... oh god i miss Newgrounds era Flash animations
54:47 I think its not just a nod to shiny Lucario but maybe also to look like Zeroaora? Idk its the blue eyes for me.
1:12:08 The hooded Marth costume may be a reference to the popular 'We need disguises. Perfect.' meme from FE7
1:31:22 I believe the fans call him Dreamcast Era Sonic
1:06:54 I think the blue alt is meant to be a referance to kirby's epic yarn
Wait, wasnt Wario supposed to ve german? I mean that was the reason he spoke german in a few Mario Party games and Mario Kart 64
Project M and plus are super cool!~ 25:07 45:04 1:22:21
Everyone: Is that really you, guys?!
5:32 that outfit was also in the mario bros nintendo power monthly comics
Wow aaronitmar rlly did a lot of work for this video great job dude,
Now I have an hour and a half of aaronitmar content to watch :D
Blue Bowser can be a reference to The Lost Levels where multiple fake bowsers aperid to try and stop Mario.
Best Smash Bros youtuber hands down! Great job
1:07:00 Not a solid reference? Excuse me but that blue and orange pattern couldn't be more obvious.
It's the player 2 character, known as Prince Fluff, from Kirby's Epic Yarn.
59:37 From the side view, this kind of resembles a Chozo to me. They are a dark blue, with glowing orange eyes. It matches up well with the suit.
its cool to see samus's suits from prime and fusion with her wider, more squat super metroid-like proportions
I love how *Project M/Project +* have costumes that are obscure references, they really shows all of these characters unique histories throughout the years
*Hopefully we see Costumes like these in a Official Smash Bros game in the future*
54:34 The first Lucario red alt is based on the poken tournament alt.
10:48 "but Mario! I'm hongry! I want some Kool aid!"
1:19:34 I think Mario Kart R.O.B.'s red and green alts could be a reference to Mario and Luigi, with the Gamecube emblem given to the green alt because it is the console were the first Luigi's Mansion was released
A couple of things about Knuckles for people who wouldn't know at first:
His blue alt could actually be a reference to a glitch in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, in which Knuckles will turn blue and has Tails' name
His black alt is obviously based off of Sonic's black alt, which is inspired by Sonic the Fighters when two players play as the same character
I will watch ALL of it.
