Same. Imo, it helps focus on the hero's flaws, conflict, and virtues when you have a villain that's just evil. And it kinda lets us see that not every bad person has a good reason, even in real life. There were some messed up criminals or dictators in the past that do just choose to be sadists, and a lot of them can't articulate their motivation simply, (evil world leaders specifically hide behind philosophical nonsense).
As another commenter said; villains always have a point. The most common motivation for most villains is power, which is arguably the greatest motivator throughout human history. Yet for some reason, modern literature has decided that the most common motivation ever is not "complex enough", so now we get traumatized crybabies as villains for the sake of sympathy.
@Nykandros Yeah. Or straight up war criminals, abusers, and murderers that they defend with "From their perspective they are doing the right thing". Yes, the evil dictators in our history and abusers are all right in their own sick minds. When there is no line they won't cross, and say their killing, abusing, etcetera for justice/ the victims good, that is evil. (Sorry for ranting). Imo, Thanos doesn't get a pass for torturing one adopted daughter to get information from his other daughter, than kills her to grow in power, and killing HALF the population of countless systems (maybe more than that in the snap) just because he was"had a point". To both have feelings for someone AND willing to hurt them in so many ways for her good or the greater good is textbook delusional and a contradiction only a narcissist insists is logical.
Well in Thanos’s defence the comic book version of him is pure evil because all he wanted to use the infinity stones for was to get death to love him. He is literally the most selfish villain in all of marvel.
Mainly did it tho because he considered death the only person he was close too and when she left and ignored him he tried to kill half of the universe to get her attention. Darksied killed his entire family so he could be the only immortal ruler of his planet. Killed every god to steal their powers and become the only god left and main goal is too find the anti life equation so he can rule over every living being as their tyrannical king. Thanos is cool but Darksied is HIM.
I think he'd like King Ghidorah from the monsterverse Dude is from a completly different planet, comes challenging the alpha titan in the planet, gets frozen, comes back, almost kills the alpha, kills his gf, almost kills him again, gets fucking violated by the end Why? No reason, he just wanted to rule the world.
King Ghidorah honestly was one of the few times in apocalypse scenario movies where I legit saw the potential for him to actually destroy the world as it was. With Godzilla out of the picture at the time, there was really absolutely no way for Ghidorah to go down otherwise especially since he was controlling the other Titans. It really and truly felt hopeless when he was awakening the Titans and that was my favorite version of Ghidorah put to screen.
Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls is another pure evil villain with no sympathetic traits. He too is just an a$$hole, but a really funny and entertaining a$$hole. He'll even go out of his way to murder two children just "for the heck of it"
I think Homelander fits well into this category too. He has no real tragic backstory or anything, he’s just a evil narcissist who feels he can do whatever he wants because he has the power to do whatever he wants Edit: okay I’ll admit he has somewhat of a tragic backstory but he’s still purely and unapologetically evil
If you’re talking about comic HL then you’re right. But in the show, they gave him a backstory on why he was like that that some audience may feel bad for him but still hate him on what he does and who he is.
Raised in a lab, experimented on daily going through some of the most brutal shit to see what can harm or kill him, beaten badly by Supe mercenaries daily for training, had no real emotional attachments to anyone and every time he tried they died in front of him. I’d say he has decently sad bad story.
I think its good to have evil villain just for the sake of being evil , just to show sympathetic villains like Thanos , how great they are, like if James gunn wanted the High evolutionary to be a sympathetic villain and have a reason to be evil , then he can say the high evolutionary is doing this to stop Celestials from destroying planets
Evil villains aren't evil for the sake of being evil unless they're someone like the joker. Most villains such as Palpatine, Darkseid, Lex Luthor etc. are evil because they desire POWER. "Evil for the sake of evil" is almost always "Evil for the sake of power", I don't see why this is so hard to realize; especially considering how common of a motivator power is throughout history.

Sidious is Neutral Evil as Chaotic Evil characters wouldn't want to form an authoritarian empire while Lawful Evil don't love destruction for destruction's sake.

People don't understand the difference between a goal and a reason. Your goal is what you're trying to accomplish, and your reason is why you're doing it. Someone who is trying to become infinitely powerful may simply be doing so, just because they want to. Not because they want to be powerful or like thanos in the mcu where he watched his planet and people crumble to ruins. But simply just because they woke up one day and chose to do it. That can make an amazing villian. I've seen other comments referring to what alfred said "some men just want to watch the world burn." As humans we constantly look for reasons as to why something exists or why something happens. If a serial k!ller went and k!lled 20 people and the police and everyone was wondering, "why did you do it". And their only reason was simply just that they wanted to, that would drive everyone insane. And the definition of a villian is "A wicked or malevolent person." Which there is nothing more evil than doing horrible things just because you wanted to. Because reasons are what make a villian more relateable and humanize them, but when you can't draw a justification, and you can't humanize something. You don't see a human, you see a monster.
I hate that people say that Batman has plot armor everytime he does something cool. I get calling Batman dodging Flashes punch a plot armor but it's dumb when people call Batman being smart like tricking Darkside a plot armor.
Finally someone that points it out. It's getting even more slightly annoying than saying prep time Batman solos fiction. You can't even point out some cool feats Batman has done without someone nagging about his plot armor without even knowing how plot armor works. God forbid a mf is actually smart 😭🙏

@dementrox7612 Fr and the worst part is that they're somehow more difficult to talk to than a brick wall. People are too used to Batman in the movies and assume he's pretty weak so they just put realistic expectations on him and him alone for some reason. Besides it's normal for a *fictional* character to have plot armor, people are just so dramatic with Batman

What also makes Palpatine a great villain is his opposition to one of Star Wars’ Themes, love. It was Luke’s selfless actions that saves Anakin and the love Anakin had for his son is what saved him
I saw that film so many times this year and he's my absolute favorite villain of the shrek franchise. Sure, he's small and not strong, but he's very smart and manipulative and rose to power in a way a regular person would want to do the same thing.
I was so freaking happy we got the High Evolutionary the way he did. I felt so happy seeing a truly evil and despicable man again. Because I felt like he was someone I WANTED to see get beat up by the heroes for how vile he is. The problem with everyone being sympathetic is that it gets hard to care about seeing them be tossed around by the heroes. The other issue is it hardly makes them a foil to the hero, just a guy they battle. I don't mind a villain having a sympathetic element or two (like in Puss in Boots 2 with Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, they're definitely evil people, but they're still a good family to each other. That kind of thing can work). But yeah, more outright evil villains are needed, like Frieza from Dragon Ball Z/Super, Jack Horner in Puss and Boots 2, and the High Evolutionary.

I agree wholeheartedly… Shoot… Disney villains have been noted as “evil for the sake of evil”… and yet they are still amongst the most iconic of all antagonists. Oh! Another fav example… Aku from Samurai Jack… His name literally means Evil… He doesn’t have a tragic backstory, nor a profound motivation, he doesn’t have parents or loved ones, and no one can really “relate” to the shapeshifting super being… he is literally evil incarnate… and his Evil is Law!!! The Master of Masters The Deliverer of Darkness The Shogun of Sorrow AKU! That being said, he’s so darn charming.
Im tired of redeemable villains with a good cause but a flawed method it was fun for the last decade but now i want a genuinely evil dude with no heart and no soul
I totally agree. After Norman had the goblin serum, he was the most evil anyone could ever be and he liked it. Also, Anton Chigurh killed anyone who got in his way of getting the case filled with thousands of dollars. And he did so with zero remorse. I’m sick of the writers trying to make me feel bad for the villains. A few sympathetic villains are good, but they’ve been done to death and need a break. It’s time to Make Evil Great Again!
The High Evolutionary was such a piece of shit I hated his guts through all the movie and even now I still remember how I hated him. The actor portrayed him really well. Sidious and Frieza are my favorite villains ever.
I do agree that we need villains who just hate good and want to do evil, but for someone like Commodus in Gladiator, he wasn’t doing what we wanted bc he wanted to, it was because he felt inferior to Maximus and wanted power to make himself stronger. It was a reason and not a good one. He is my most hated villain bc he was willing to do horrible things to his family, including hurt his sister and kill his father in order to get what he wanted. Commodus is easily my most hated villain. Solid video man, well analyzed!
The type of villains I've learned to love are ones whose stats, attributes, and power levels are all at their strongest points and have the same goals as The Lich, Vaatu, and Doomsday. Bonus points if they have powers based on those qualities.
Another perfect example of an Evil villain not to be sympathetic to is Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat! Him we don’t need to delve into who he was and how he came to be. Just let him be the Brutal Brilliant Narcissistic Conquering Emperor laughing as he cheaply fatalities the good (and bad) guys.
I once read a book, in which I found the most despicable women I've ever read about in all of fiction. The book is called The Rockmine, and it's a scandinavian crime story. This character is such an awful person, she compares to some of the mfrs. If you want to read it, it's written by Camilla Läckberg.
@@cahe6161 just read about it, the rebellion are described as freedom fighters and I think they are a socialist ideology. The empire is obviously authoritarian, fascist, a dictatorship and it is trying to destroy the rebellion.
On my first baldurs gate 3 playthrough I played Durge and got so invested into the villain role that when I saw the other villains I just saw them as lesser villains, far less evil then me. So I guess I'm my favorite villain :3
These are the villains that are loved by fans. But what about the villains/characters that audience despise like Joffrey, Umbridge, Anabella Rosfield, do you think people want to bring those kinds of villains as well??
This could help me. I plan on becoming a film/tv writer-director-producer, and I wish to learn everything about writing. So, do you have tips on how to make a great villain that serves as the hero’s parallel? I was thinking more like a female villain who would have a determination to not be compared to her parents, but unlike a more noble hero or antihero who pursues justice and uses intelligence to help others, she would be more likely to pursue power above all else, and she uses her intelligence to manipulate others into becoming her pawns. Close but no cigar, or probably close enough to work?
My favorite villain is Albert Spica from The Cook the Theif, his Wife, and her lover. He is just so disgusting and ruthless that you just cant take your eyes off of him.
Some of my favorite villains are ones who are Pure Evil I agree with you about Darksied as he is a actual threat as it takes a whole team just to beat him and sometimes they don’t even win
Darkseid is just a blank piece of wood. He's powerful....so? He's still a boring warlord who isn't scary. Even in Apokolips War where he fucks over the Justice League, the Paradooms (his own monster henchmen) are scarier than him. A pure evil villain needs to be either fun, scary or both in order to work. That's why people love Palpatine, Joker and the Wolf in Puss in Boots 2.
Truth. I think the whole *"SyMpAtHeTiC"* villain has been done so many times and I just want villains purely for the sake of being villains and taking glory and passion in their cruelty and maliciousness. So say what you want about Skar King, but at least he was just pure evil for the sake of it and wanted nothing more than conquest and domination. Bring back pure evil villains. 😈
If they are a tragic villain with a sad backstory. You still need to make them an evil and hated character for your story. General Grievous is a good example such a tragic backstory but lead him down the path of committing genocide on multiple planets that had nothing to do with the Jedi like Dathomir. You understand why he does this but this revenge and justice was corrupted by the sith and was made to be a weapon for a fixed war were both sides are fighting to ultimately put the Sith as rules of the galaxy.
His dad was strict and a bit overbearing but not enough to really be abusive or give Palps that much of a sad story. Edit: nm, his Dad was a cunt, i suppose Palpatine does have some tragedy in his life but still everything he does afterwards is with a smile on his face so I still think he falls under near pure evil.

So he has some motivation and a pretty sympathetic backstory considering his father wasn't the best to him and as mentioned in the video he supposedly wrecked Yoda even though that didn't happen Yoda forced him to run away like a coward and getting The High Ground and spam attacks at him Yoda just was unlucky and didn't get a good position like Palpatine and left knowing it would be pointless if he killed Palpatine the Jedi were gone and Palpatine most likely escaped.
If we got the sequels to Justice League we were definitely gonna see a powerful menace version of Darkside! Did you see how he killed Aquaman and Lois Lane? He also went to Wonder Womans funeral which he probably had a hand in causing 💀He was just a younger version in the flashbacks without the omega force, that’s why he got his ass kicked
Personally, my favorite types of villains are the ones who entire reason for doing evil is because of sheer pettiness i.e. Syndrome from the Incredibles and Black Manta who actively go out of their way to kill/torment/get their revenge at the hero
Darth Sidius is such a smart psychopath I think he almost could become Emperor without the Force. The movies don't portrait this but Palpatine was a really powerful individual but in he didn't conquered the galaxy being a powerful sith, he conquered the galaxy being a really intelligent politician!
It's not necessarily that villains having logical reasons is what's annoying, it's that every single backstory is just "boohoo something very sad". True, great tragedy changes a person, both for heroes and villains, but it's literally ALWAYS a tragic backstory these days, it's predictable and almost feels manipulative.
The Skaven from Warhammer is a good example of comically evil. They are perfect moustache twirly villains but also f#cked up in so many ways. You gotta love them and thats why they're fun to kill in Vermintide. And to mention the perfect character that represents is Thanquol (probably spelt thay wrong.)

Definitely a tragic backstory tho he has a solid reason to hate the jedi. While being completely manipulated by the Sith Grievous still has good reason to be the hateful genocide maniac he became. In his eyes hes fighting a war for revenge against "peacemakers" that only bring destruction and despair for foreign planets and conflicts.

See here’s the thing. Sure some villains need to just suck, but in modern storylines villains a lot need to be compelling or understandable. Not that we would do the same thing, just that we get where they are come from. I think the best villains are the ones that make you as the viewer question if they are really the villain. What I will say is if you read a lot of the old EU canon, Palpatine wasn’t pure evil until Plagueis changed him to be that way. He did have good motivations. He thought the Jedi were egotistical nobles who do no good. Palpatine was a member of a big house but his family didn’t seem to have compassion for him and while he didn’t care for Politics, he was bred for it. He could see his father being scummy and not taking action to the bigger issues. When his family banned him from seeing Hego Demask II (his new friend) he killed all of them. Plagueis then revealed himself and Palpatine pledged himself to the Sith. In Sith training Palpatine was physically abused and starved for weeks and he admitted he hates Plagueis, to which he said “good.” Palpatine rising in politics, Manipulating the galaxy into civil war through Dooku, and the clone army/Order 66 was all Plagueis’ idea while Plagueis locked himself away to discover the secret to true immortality which he would share with Palpatine. But as Plagueis had grown expendable to his own plan, Palpatine killed him in his sleep taking over as Dark Lord.
Here some of my favorite Pure Evil. SPOILERS FOR: Once upon a time series, Danganronpa franchise, the Owl House, Star Wars (IDK, just in case), Jujutsu kaisen, Berserk manga. Peter Pan (Once upon a time) - nobody in this series contrasts with themes of love, family and loyalty mote than this bastard, who abandoned all love and family just for the sake of eternal youth - primest example of Psychopathic manchild. Emperor Belos (the Owl House) - best Disney villain for the last decade and good example of how even completely rotten person can see himself as the saint paragon of justice. Junko Enoshima (Danganronpa franchise) - this is what you got when the villain wants to make world happy............... but for her happiness means pain, misery and DESPAIR! Rare example of villain who equally enjoys pain of others and her own pain as well. Emperor Palpatine (Star Wars) - somebody watches prequels for Anakin's journey. I watch them just to see how masterly Palpatine manipulates literally everybody and make it successfully. Vader maybe icon but every time i watch him i see just a broken person. Evey time i see Palpatine.......... I see the Dark side incarnate. Mahito (Jujutsu kaisen) - great example of how antagonist devolopes along with protagonist. Also, interesting example of Pure Evil because.......... technically you can't blame him for all this cruel things cause he is born out of humanity's worst traits and it's his job to make them suffer. Griffith (Berserk manga) - example of how character not necessarily starts as Pure Evil but slowly becomes it. One of the top contenders for my favorite anime/manga villain. Joker (DC Comics) - probably my favorite villain of all time. He just has all my favorite villain traits - sadistic behavior, doing evil for fun, masterfully manipulates and corrupts people to become like him, obsessed with protagonist to make him suffer/corrupt his worldview, and he laughs at face of death.
Finally someone mentions High Evolutionary, he's mainly just a piece of shit, and that's what makes him great, you want to see the heroes whoop his ass, for me him and Green Goblin are the best villains the MCU has had since Phase 4 started

Doomsday is more of a classical monster than he is a villain. He’s just the embodiment of wanton destruction. While he’s intelligent enough to express how much he sadistically enjoys it, he’s not out for much other than killing things for pleasure.
I’m sick of sympathizing with villains, the Joker movies never should’ve been made. Suicide Squad should not get their movies or video games, we should only stuff focused on the hero.

I think its good to have evil villain just for the sake of being evil , just to show sympathetic villains like Thanos , how great they are, like if James gunn wanted the High evolutionary to be a sympathetic villain and have a reason to be evil , then he can say the high evolutionary is doing this to stop Celestials from destroying planets

Evil villains aren't evil for the sake of being evil unless they're someone like the joker. Most villains such as Palpatine, Darkseid, Lex Luthor etc. are evil because they desire POWER. "Evil for the sake of evil" is almost always "Evil for the sake of power", I don't see why this is so hard to realize; especially considering how common of a motivator power is throughout history.

People don't understand the difference between a goal and a reason. Your goal is what you're trying to accomplish, and your reason is why you're doing it. Someone who is trying to become infinitely powerful may simply be doing so, just because they want to. Not because they want to be powerful or like thanos in the mcu where he watched his planet and people crumble to ruins. But simply just because they woke up one day and chose to do it.
That can make an amazing villian. I've seen other comments referring to what alfred said "some men just want to watch the world burn." As humans we constantly look for reasons as to why something exists or why something happens. If a serial k!ller went and k!lled 20 people and the police and everyone was wondering, "why did you do it". And their only reason was simply just that they wanted to, that would drive everyone insane.
And the definition of a villian is "A wicked or malevolent person." Which there is nothing more evil than doing horrible things just because you wanted to. Because reasons are what make a villian more relateable and humanize them, but when you can't draw a justification, and you can't humanize something. You don't see a human, you see a monster.
I think we need a part 2 to this one, there is still more villains being villains for the sake of being a villain to speak about

I saw that film so many times this year and he's my absolute favorite villain of the shrek franchise. Sure, he's small and not strong, but he's very smart and manipulative and rose to power in a way a regular person would want to do the same thing.

I was so freaking happy we got the High Evolutionary the way he did. I felt so happy seeing a truly evil and despicable man again. Because I felt like he was someone I WANTED to see get beat up by the heroes for how vile he is. The problem with everyone being sympathetic is that it gets hard to care about seeing them be tossed around by the heroes. The other issue is it hardly makes them a foil to the hero, just a guy they battle. I don't mind a villain having a sympathetic element or two (like in Puss in Boots 2 with Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, they're definitely evil people, but they're still a good family to each other. That kind of thing can work). But yeah, more outright evil villains are needed, like Frieza from Dragon Ball Z/Super, Jack Horner in Puss and Boots 2, and the High Evolutionary.

I totally agree. After Norman had the goblin serum, he was the most evil anyone could ever be and he liked it. Also, Anton Chigurh killed anyone who got in his way of getting the case filled with thousands of dollars. And he did so with zero remorse. I’m sick of the writers trying to make me feel bad for the villains. A few sympathetic villains are good, but they’ve been done to death and need a break. It’s time to Make Evil Great Again!

I do agree that we need villains who just hate good and want to do evil, but for someone like Commodus in Gladiator, he wasn’t doing what we wanted bc he wanted to, it was because he felt inferior to Maximus and wanted power to make himself stronger. It was a reason and not a good one. He is my most hated villain bc he was willing to do horrible things to his family, including hurt his sister and kill his father in order to get what he wanted. Commodus is easily my most hated villain.

The type of villains I've learned to love are ones whose stats, attributes, and power levels are all at their strongest points and have the same goals as The Lich, Vaatu, and Doomsday. Bonus points if they have powers based on those qualities.

This character is such an awful person, she compares to some of the mfrs. If you want to read it, it's written by Camilla Läckberg.

I was thinking more like a female villain who would have a determination to not be compared to her parents, but unlike a more noble hero or antihero who pursues justice and uses intelligence to help others, she would be more likely to pursue power above all else, and she uses her intelligence to manipulate others into becoming her pawns. Darkseid is just a blank piece of wood. He's powerful....so? He's still a boring warlord who isn't scary. Even in Apokolips War where he fucks over the Justice League, the Paradooms (his own monster henchmen) are scarier than him.
A pure evil villain needs to be either fun, scary or both in order to work. That's why people love Palpatine, Joker and the Wolf in Puss in Boots 2.
Truth. I think the whole *"SyMpAtHeTiC"* villain has been done so many times and I just want villains purely for the sake of being villains and taking glory and passion in their cruelty and maliciousness. So say what you want about Skar King, but at least he was just pure evil for the sake of it and wanted nothing more than conquest and domination.

If they are a tragic villain with a sad backstory. You still need to make them an evil and hated character for your story. General Grievous is a good example such a tragic backstory but lead him down the path of committing genocide on multiple planets that had nothing to do with the Jedi like Dathomir. You understand why he does this but this revenge and justice was corrupted by the sith and was made to be a weapon for a fixed war were both sides are fighting to ultimately put the Sith as rules of the galaxy.
Will Palpatine did have a sad backstory he had a pretty abusive father.
His dad was strict and a bit overbearing but not enough to really be abusive or give Palps that much of a sad story.
Edit: nm, his Dad was a cunt, i suppose Palpatine does have some tragedy in his life but still everything he does afterwards is with a smile on his face so I still think he falls under near pure evil.

So he has some motivation and a pretty sympathetic backstory considering his father wasn't the best to him and as mentioned in the video he supposedly wrecked Yoda even though that didn't happen Yoda forced him to run away like a coward and getting The High Ground and spam attacks at him Yoda just was unlucky and didn't get a good position like Palpatine and left knowing it would be pointless if he killed Palpatine the Jedi were gone and Palpatine most likely escaped.

Darth Sidius is such a smart psychopath I think he almost could become Emperor without the Force. The movies don't portrait this but Palpatine was a really powerful individual but in he didn't conquered the galaxy being a powerful sith, he conquered the galaxy being a really intelligent politician!

It's not necessarily that villains having logical reasons is what's annoying, it's that every single backstory is just "boohoo something very sad". True, great tragedy changes a person, both for heroes and villains, but it's literally ALWAYS a tragic backstory these days, it's predictable and almost feels manipulative.

The Skaven from Warhammer is a good example of comically evil. They are perfect moustache twirly villains but also f#cked up in so many ways. You gotta love them and thats why they're fun to kill in Vermintide.

See here’s the thing. Sure some villains need to just suck, but in modern storylines villains a lot need to be compelling or understandable. Not that we would do the same thing, just that we get where they are come from. I think the best villains are the ones that make you as the viewer question if they are really the villain.
What I will say is if you read a lot of the old EU canon, Palpatine wasn’t pure evil until Plagueis changed him to be that way. He did have good motivations. He thought the Jedi were egotistical nobles who do no good. Palpatine was a member of a big house but his family didn’t seem to have compassion for him and while he didn’t care for Politics, he was bred for it. He could see his father being scummy and not taking action to the bigger issues. When his family banned him from seeing Hego Demask II (his new friend) he killed all of them. Plagueis then revealed himself and Palpatine pledged himself to the Sith. In Sith training Palpatine was physically abused and starved for weeks and he admitted he hates Plagueis, to which he said “good.” Palpatine rising in politics, Manipulating the galaxy into civil war through Dooku, and the clone army/Order 66 was all Plagueis’ idea while Plagueis locked himself away to discover the secret to true immortality which he would share with Palpatine. But as Plagueis had grown expendable to his own plan, Palpatine killed him in his sleep taking over as Dark Lord.

SPOILERS FOR: Once upon a time series, Danganronpa franchise, the Owl House, Star Wars (IDK, just in case), Jujutsu kaisen, Berserk manga.
Peter Pan (Once upon a time) - nobody in this series contrasts with themes of love, family and loyalty mote than this bastard, who abandoned all love and family just for the sake of eternal youth - primest example of Psychopathic manchild.
Emperor Belos (the Owl House) - best Disney villain for the last decade and good example of how even completely rotten person can see himself as the saint paragon of justice.
Junko Enoshima (Danganronpa franchise) - this is what you got when the villain wants to make world happy............... but for her happiness means pain, misery and DESPAIR! Rare example of villain who equally enjoys pain of others and her own pain as well.
Emperor Palpatine (Star Wars) - somebody watches prequels for Anakin's journey. I watch them just to see how masterly Palpatine manipulates literally everybody and make it successfully. Vader maybe icon but every time i watch him i see just a broken person. Evey time i see Palpatine.......... I see the Dark side incarnate.
Mahito (Jujutsu kaisen) - great example of how antagonist devolopes along with protagonist. Also, interesting example of Pure Evil because.......... technically you can't blame him for all this cruel things cause he is born out of humanity's worst traits and it's his job to make them suffer.
Griffith (Berserk manga) - example of how character not necessarily starts as Pure Evil but slowly becomes it. One of the top contenders for my favorite anime/manga villain.
Joker (DC Comics) - probably my favorite villain of all time. He just has all my favorite villain traits - sadistic behavior, doing evil for fun, masterfully manipulates and corrupts people to become like him, obsessed with protagonist to make him suffer/corrupt his worldview, and he laughs at face of death.
Thanos is a great villian
Finally someone mentions High Evolutionary, he's mainly just a piece of shit, and that's what makes him great, you want to see the heroes whoop his ass, for me him and Green Goblin are the best villains the MCU has had since Phase 4 started
