Czyz is an interesting character and was a pretty talented fighter. I remember watching his 2nd fight with Charles Williams as a 14-year-old on ABC. He had very good power but was with his short stature and short arms he was always going to have problems with fighters who knew how to use their reach. His life has been a real rollercoaster. Bobby Czyz was a strong, smart boxer but was relatively short with not much of a reach so against someone like Charles William's with that good, long jab he struggled. A lot of chaos at the end, i wish him well and he can stay healthy. Great video as always 🥊👏
Great video! Czyz was a very talented fighter but was handicaped physically by his size. He was always the much smaller fighter with shorter arms, etc. Prince Williams looked like a guy that was 2 divisions bigger. Sorry to hear about his medical problems and I hope he's ok today. I think he should have become a doctor. I can't imagine he doesn't have some kind of CTE issues today but wish him the very best.
I sincerely hope that people come into the store where Bobby works as a bagger and ask him for his autograph. He deserves that. There should be a boxers benevolence society to help broke ex boxers after all the work they put in in their careers.
@@ChristopherMosley-dj3kt yes. Boxers should pay a tax on all earnings to be kept for them should they fall into ill health or poverty later on. Look at what happened to Jerry Quarry. I think it’s sad to see ex boxers broke. Watch any Jerry Quarry tribute to see what I mean. There are a lot like him. They give a lot physically and mentally to boxing.

I knew he had issues, especially with his father's suicide, but I didn't know about the criminal issues, other than having some DUI's. BTW, the best boxing book I have ever read was The Black Lights by Thomas Hauser. Larry Holmes' biography is great too, but a very unique, and great, boxing book is Flesh and Blood by Jim Christie. It mostly concentrates on Canadian boxing which I didn't know too much about, with great chapters on Don Lalonde and Gordy Racette. Just curious whether you've read it or not. Thanks brother.

Booby Czyz was a hell of a fighter, always admired him, went toe to toe with Holyfield as well. I never knew about his early troubled family life though. That’s why your the best Rich, well researched and fantastic fight footage. I remember talk of him fighting Tommy Hearns, that would have been a cracker. Interesting how fights go, if Padilla had of stopped Williams in the first fight when he was badly hurt, how their careers would have maybe gone in different directions. Great video Rich.👏🥊
Outstanding look at Czyz. I always thought, with his popularity, he had almost unlimited earning potential; but I guess he was fighting "too big," in the end. He was always just good enough to be competitive with the top fighters of his era; but never quite good enough to stay on top. He was always entertaining to watch, though. Very smart fighter and a lot of heart. As a side note, I always thought Prince Charles Williams was the best Light-Heavyweight of that era and avoided by virtually everybody. It would be interesting to see your take on his career....at least I think so. Anyway, great work as always! Keep it up!

Bobby had great heart. I like Czyz. Its a damn shame he ended up broke, I mean the guy was genius IQ. I think although it would have garnered him his biggest payday, maybe the Hearns cancellation was a good thing. Even though Tommy was on the downside, he carried his punch up to Cruiserweight and Bobby was fairly easy to find in the ring. Could have been ugly

I saw Andrew Maynard, who at the time was a highly thought of pro, sparring with an amateur boxer and Maynard seemed to get hit with everything to the point where they stopped the sparring early. I mean it was like Maynard had no idea how to slip or block a punch.

My son's wanting me to let him start getting some hard spars in now. He's only 13 and i have been his only trainer so far. What do you think rich is 13 yr old enough or you think i should give it another year
I started boxing at the age of ten and had over 200 amateur bouts. I started heavy sparring around the age of 15. Most of those sparring sessions were with much heavier opponents. Make sure your son is matched against someone his own weight when heavy sparring begins. Let your son know that he can work on the heavy bag hard; be careful there also. Many fractures occur if he does not use correct punching technique, including the positioning of the body and feet. Best to your son, hope he becomes a World Champion!

He was scared at first but now I couldn't keep him away from it if I tried. So yeah maybe he will stick with it and make a career of it but the most important thing to me is his health of course. It's fun being a father to a boy (I have two older girls) that is into the same things though. Ps. Why was Referee Battle telling Bobby “hands up?” He’s not his trainer? You don’t coach fighters but say “Watch your heads” for collision

I'd give it more time. Folks will disagree but that's a bit early for hard sparring. I'd keep it controlled, focusing on technique.
