I'm going to be full honest: People don't have to necessarily support and understand it, you cannot understand everything. But what people have to do in all cases is, in my opinion, to respect that it's their life and they can do whatever they want. They won't hurt anyone else with it, so why calling them names? This is the only thing I want from people. To just let them be.

That's why they should be not "not bothered" but "seeing it "normal" ". That's why we are showing this much of visibility and still educating cis heterosexuals.
I respect it and they can do whatever they want. But when it's being pushed on my nose by advertising every day i become frustrated and it makes me want to hate them. I feel like I'm being preasured from the EU and US to love them not just tolerate/respect them.

Traditionally, Russians were pretty indifferent to the LGBTQ. In fact in imperial days before 1917, the LGBTQ were sometimes openly tolerated in parts of Russia. I'm reminded of Prince Yusupov--he of Rasputin-killing fame. He was openly gay as the day is long, and nothing really happened to him. Everyone from the tsar on down tolerated it with a wink and a nod. Then when the Bolsheviks took over in 1918, there was serious talk of making gay marriage legal in the new Civil Code of the Soviet Union. Lenin himself tolerated such discussions. That talk died down by 1922 or so, but homosexual relations were legalized. It's only been in the past 15 years that there's been a concerted effort to turn Russia into a crazy conservative country that despises the LGBTQ, like the Muslim countries or the English-speaking countries before 1960 or so.

But how can you be so dumb? The time of the USSR was very marked by atheism and by the persecution of homosexuals because they did not contribute to the family growing and therefore the leaders saw this as something bad for the growth of the Soviet people. What book do they read in your country to say all that nonsense?
@Ninja Crackpot Excuse me, many Asians accept them as well. Japanese, Thais, Chinese, Vietnamese and in Taiwan same sex marriage were legalised recently. Get ur facts rite bruh😊
Cringing when everyone, even the supportive ones, say it's someone's choice. Trust me, if homosexuality was a choice, most people would choose not to be. It's just so much easier to be straight, especially in homophobic environments.
IFKR??? That's what I've always told people all the time, but they don't listen. They think the LGBT would want to exist in my country, Malaysia, despite its extreme laws against it? No dude, it's making more people realise they're gay, and the government's done a bang up job at forcefully restricting who they can love.
It's partly denial I think. If someone accepts that it's 100% not a choice then they pretty much *have* to be tolerant and non judgmental. But if they say it's a choice it makes them easier to justify their criticism.

Well, I get your point, but it actually has been proven to be the case for most people who are violently homophobic. It doesn't mean that gay people in the closet are inherently violent at all. It just means that self hatred is one hell of a bitch. You see if with internalised misogyny! What's the difference between that and what is being said about that violently homophobic man? Women are oppressed too, just like LGBT+ people. Yet we know full well internalised misogyny leads to women being horrendous to other women, even defending rapists and victim blaming women. Even with men. A lot of men who try desperately to appear 'masculine' whilst hating 'feminine' men do so because of all of society's standards being imposed upon them which tell them to tough it out and 'be men'. Shit, there were even Jewish and Slavic members of the Nazi Party. FRRRRRRRRR!!1! Like, we just want love and acceptance lol. I just don't understand why some people think that we just wanted sexual pleasure. C'mon mate, we're just the same specie as you
3:22 I think this is a prime example one of the many misconceptions about gay people. Whenever people hear the phrase "gay" or "homosexual," they immediately go to thinking about sex. And more specifically, male-male anal sex - because that's the part that creeps people out. It's as if they think that the bedroom is the only room in a homosexual person's house, and sex is the only part of their love lives. Whenever we think about heterosexuality, we think about dates, love, care, movie nights, kissing, hugging, cuddling, meeting the other partner's family, going on trips, romance, emotions, and so much more. But when we think about homosexuality, we immediately direct our attention to sex. It's wrong and such a large misconception of gay people - and it just shows that some people really have absolutely no idea what sexual orientation is. It's not called sexual orientation because it's all about sexual things, **sex**ual orientation means an orientation based on somebody's sex (male or female or both). And how some of those people were so quick to say they'd abandon their children and kill all gay people is absolutely horrific and a prime example of complete ignorance and lack of empathy. I really hope those people never become parents.
I think this is the biggest hurdle we face in the hatred that we have to this day. These people immediately sexualize being gay instead of realizing it’s about simply being able to love who you fall in love with.. period. I have a paralyzed gay friend who unfortunately (like many paralyzed or paraplegic people) doesn’t have the physical capability of the physical act of intercourse as we know it. Yet, he’s in a happier marriage than most straight couples I know. Go figure
I think one of the biggest stems of how that came to be is back then being gay was closely considered as young boy and a man (pedophile). It was then seen as a dominant aggression to get someone to do something they don’t like. Hence the “not normal” aspect. So people over time saw it as gross and whenever they would see lgbt people hold hands it wasn’t something they relate to and their immediate reaction to it is how can that be called love when it’s abnormal. There’s so much misconceptions about it and until someone truly sees love separate from just physical and love as equal on a emotional note, then are they able to see it as okay. I like to think of it as parents or people constantly telling kids they have nothing to stress about or you don’t know what struggling is. It’s a prime example of how disconnected someone is to relate to a completely different experience then just themselves. But..just look at all the issues in this world… luckily in lots of countries the younger generation is really starting to realize that this is not a big deal.
I'm from Argentina, a much more gay-friendly country than Russia. The way people answer the questions is similar to what argentine people said maybe 20 or 25 years ago. Even when people appear supportive they still use that 'it's fine as long as they don't do it in front of me' argument, which still holds the notion that it's 'us and them', or that gays are in the end deviants, yet acceptable deviants since they're harmless as long as they do their thing away from public view. That why that girl in the couple was initially supportive but then said she would resist it if it was her son who came out. They're theoretically ok with LGBT as long as it's not something that forms a part of their life, as long as they don't have to be 'the parents that have a gay son'. Obviously this attitude is still a massive step forward in comparison to the 'let's burn them alive' camp, but you know a country is f'ed up if even the most progressive views are still in some way problematic
_They're theoretically ok with LGBT as long as it's not something that forms a part of their life, as long as they don't have to be 'the parents that have a gay son'_
Very interesting comment, I never thought of it like this. I always wondered what would be the reason why regimes want to oppress a minority group that does nothing wrong or cause any harm. Your point about the ‘us vs them’ narrative makes sense, as in order to have control it seems reasonable to want to have minority groups that you can convince are ‘evil’. This video is kind of the result of a norm being created in which you are socially expected to be anti-lgbt, and if you are not you might be one of ‘them’
I'm grateful I see this kind of videos and graeful for you making them. It gives some hope and also makes me clear that Russia and their president are different...mostly
You can tell there´s a difference between the "I don´t care"-proceeds to immediately look uncomfortable and annoyed, wanting to escape from that embarrassing situation as soon as possible- and the "I don´t care" -proceeds to smile and take the question with calm as if there was nothing extremely weird about it. Their words are the same, but their body language says completely different things.
You too fail at body language. The smile is a typical defense against uncomfortable situations.. Now - this is russia - so it's obvious that they may be pro or neutral on lgbtq which is dissidence from the established norm. ...also your'e a fool.
you know in the end we shouldn't disrespect them or look down upon them for it. It's not a normal thing and you sort of have to put yourself in the shoes of someone who has never met a gay person or had a gay child...I mean of course many would think it is weird! I'm not saying being gay is bad or anything but many of the people in this comments section just dont get the fact that its hard for society to adapt... we haven't been in the 2000's for that long lol
This is what I've been thinking lately most people in today's society especially in America will say they don't care, I've even had a straight person tell me "no one cares" it's fake bullshit...
"being lgbt is a choice" ah yes!! i love to be an oppressed minority! how beautiful it is to be harassed in public just bc i love somebody of the same gender🥰💖
When people say it's a choice, what they mean is "stay closeted forever, push down your gay feelings, don't let me see any deviance." They value conformity and don't have a lot of empathy.
It's the "it's their choice" that kills me. I wonder when did all the straight people that said this chose to be heterosexuals. The choice in sex is what position you like, not if you like men, women, both, or none. And the least people talk about it, the more ignorant opinions like get popular and validated. Plus, anyone with one brain cell knows politics that actively persue minorities are just creating some smokescreen for shittier stuff. I can even understand older generations falling for it, but I'm actually sad to see that some young Russians are so prejudiced against lgbt people for... no reason, really.
Perhaps some of the "homophobes" in the vid have fear of what the government would do if they had clearly shown support towards lgbt+ community. They sound pretty evasive using "neutral" all the time Edit: either that above, or fear of the society itself, of misfitting
@@whalisten I honestly doubt it. I mean, is the Russian government that worried about a handful of straight people saying they don't mind lgbt people existing? Their answer "it's their choice" or "I don't care, they aren't killing anyone" is a pattern seen in many other nations where lgbt minorities are protected by the law as well, like in Brazil. People are taught sexuality is a choice and accept this truth without reflecting because they simply never faced the contrary argument. And given many parents in many nations are against any kind of sex education, it just makes this harder.
@@juliandavididarragarestrep8719 the thing is that this answer changes when they are faced with the "what if your child came out" question. For me, this clearly show me they are not so neutral and not so "do whatever you want with your life". Be it for fear of what the society might say about/do with their children, or because they actually are against it, but it's not nice to say that on camera. And the fact that those who said "well, it's their life, I won't expel them from my house" also shows a distance that I'm not familiar with when talking about your own kids. There was barely someone saying "I'll love them whatever, cause being gay is not a choice and we can't live in a world that condones this" like you'd hear in many other western countries. Maybe this is probably a cultural thing I'm not used to, especially being from south america, where everything is very emotional haha (and given Russia is obviously not a western country with western-like culture)
I’m a Colombian myself (so I guess that as a fellow Latino I share similar experiences to the ones you do. Like Brazil, we have very liberal policies but also share a not-so-progressive and rather religious, conservative society) and people who say that are often actually supportive. They usually aren’t as educated in the topic so they might not be aware of the connotation “it’s their choice” has, since these people were probably never really told of the LGBT community by schools or their families. My family’s response when I came out was along the “it’s your choice” line, and despite that they’re extremely supportive. LGBT issues are something most people don’t often think about so I guess it’s understandable they might not know how to phrase their position correctly. As my family learned more about the topic, they have clearly become more outspokenly supportive.

There's something about all the nervous laughs and uncomfortable body language that suggests to me a lot of these people think they can't say what they really feel.
based on the comments i thought everyone would be against lgbt. in reality it was like 2 or 3 people. homophobia is in every country, it is not a trait only to russia.
Do you really believe in a short video? LOL People in Eastern europe don't like them at all, actually i doubt most people in the west like them, I'm from south America and what I more heard people saying was "I have nothing against gays but God free me from having a gay son".
Sure was! When people started to out me in school I have never felt more scared in my life. Mind you I was 14-16. Luckily I had friends who always had my back, but when I say that I was afraid to leave my house at times, I mean it. I'm very happy I moved, and I even attended my first pride this year! It was a wonderful experience :)
I think this guy has issue other than "not knowing what's beatiful about men" like the fact that he think the men who find men beatiful should be burned, which is such an horrible thing to say
It’s almost as if the young people of the world have become relaxed, liberal and tolerant whilst the older folks do everything in their power to pitch them against each other and breed anger. And that goes for older liberal folk as well. Telling your children that people with conservative values are “evil” is just as wrong as telling your children that liberals are communists.
Maybe the leftists should stop pushing Marxist social constructs then. The commies laid out a plan to take down western society decades ago and if you look at that it’s pretty much all happening today through useful idiot “liberals,” who are the furthest thing from the definition of “liberal” these days. They’re nothing more than totalitarian assholes that want to shutdown anyone that disagrees with their awful ideology.
As a gay man I can truly say that when I was born I don't remember my parents sitting me down and asking me what sexuality do I wish to be and then bringing in either gay magazines or straight magazines to show me and bring me up in life to what ever sexuality I choose. There are no magic buttons or incantations that were waved around my head or even bringing in a prostitute or a gay guy to show me the way of my sexuality. I was simple born gay and have been my whole life so the brining up by parental means it out of the window. One does not choose to be gay or straight no more then one chooses to be born with a defect or be challenged. We are simply the way we are when we are born. If the parents choose not to love there child for simply being born then I pity the parents first and then the child as then know not what is in store from them as they get older weather they are born gay or straight.
No one is born gay lmao. I know 2 exfriends of mine who turned gay because he was too nervous with girls and couldn't express their feelings to them. They have become overly toxic and flashy with their sexuality. Seems like choice to me.
@@fraided88 Just because your two ex friends "chose to be gay", because they couldn't get with a girl doesn't mean that every gay person is like that. My friend is also gay, he's decent looking to me, but quite a lot of girls were going after him. One day at school he revealed to me that he wasn't interested in any of them. He wanted a boyfriend, not a girlfriend. He had his first time with a guy. His longest relationship was also with a guy. I don't think you can possibly "pretend" to be gay and do stuff like that if you're actually straight. Let's not forget the fact that no sane person would want to be non-heteronormative, while living in an extremely homophobic, conservative country, which is exactly my homeland. And remember that gay men aren't the only part of LGBTQ. Sexuality is a fluid spectrum.
The braces guy feels like he's in denial. Idk maybe he's scared that his family would hate him or that he's taught to be homophobic or both. Either way, what he said was just straight up disturbing.

Judging by my own experience, the level of LGBT+ positivity for a certain russian person highly depends whether they were born to a middle class family (then there`s a greater chance relatives will turn out to be liberal in their attitudes), whether they live in a small town or a huge one (Moscow) and (this factor is the most important in my opinion) whether they attend a prestigious school or a regular one. By prestigious I do not mean those schools u have to pay for. People in "prestigious" russian schools (they`re often called gymnaziums, lyceums or simply specialized) are more motivated to enroll in top universities (thus they grow up to be more progressive). I myself am from gymnazium, and I`ve never met a single kid who`s gone to a top uni after such school and who`d state they`re homophobic or even neutral, cause they`re all allies to some extent. I don`t have any heterosexual friends tbh. All my pals went to such universities like Higher School of Economics and so on. People also say that to get to HSE u have to be gay cause u won`t find a single het person there. You might think that only rich kids go to universities like that but it isn`t true, so what I`m saying is that if u`re a young gay individual in Russia u`re not doomed to suffer, completely alienated from people, if u apply enough effort to escape ur small homophobic town and get a decent education, you can live a healthy happy life
Well when you are asexual it's likely to come over people who don't understand you anyway, just maybe not so aggressive but it also affects psychological state. Gynecologists for example who say to you that it's not normal not to have sex. And if you are also childfree... And it's difficult to find a person who would love you because many of them consider sex something very important. Even middle class people. It depends on mind, not how rich you are. And in Russia people with high education often are very poor.

The whole "I'm actually more scared of murderers than LGBT people" bit feels... completely surreal. Like, parallel-universe surreal. I live in Montreal where being LGBT is not only widely accepted but is seen sa super-cool, people (gay and straight as well) hang out in the gay village that's open and pedestrian in the summer, and work in a place where pretty much all my co-workers are queer. It's one thing to know that such place exist, but another to have the reality of it slaps you in the face. The very thought that someone was trying to visibly convince you that LGBTQ people are less dangerous than murderers was breathtaking (in the wrong sense of the term).
I don't understand Russian, but I would guess it was just a joke like "why would I be scared of LGBT people when there's murderers (and others) out there who are much worse".

A persons sexuality shouldn't define them anymore than the colour of their skin. It's irrelevant to your character, yet continues to be faced with unjustified prejudice. When you pass through to another life, you'll be judged by your morals and how your decisions impacted others. In a world where you can be anything, be kind.
A lot of those types of people literally define themselves with their sexuality. Putting up stupid flags in their rooms, putting who they want to fuck in their bio. If it doesnt matter what your sexuality is then why does every person who isnt the norm put it in their social media bio, its almost as if their entire personality revolves around their sexuality and they want attention.
@@Andrew-xo6hl to be honest I've never seen anyone writing "I want to fuck men" in their bio xD Is being gay only about fucking to you? If so, I'm concerned. Also how many gay people's rooms have you been in, lots I assume, you seem to know an awful lot about their decour
@@Andrew-xo6hl Very true, so what op said also applies when turned around. It's always "don't judge people based on their sexuality/it's none of your business" but to me it seems like way too many LGBT people literally base their entire personality and existence on their sexuality, being very vocal about it, thus making it impossible to ignore. In a way, they're judging themselves by screaming "I'm different". In my opinion, everyone should keep it to themselves, if it were up to me, PDA would be considered "public indecency", and it would apply to anyone of any sexuality.

@Ninja Crackpot literally almost all Asians country's were okay whit homosexuality until westernized, even in thailand were alot of trans accepted by monks, edo Japan warriors f*ck each other, I mean literally in all the history in the word is homosexuality: Roma, Greece, Egypt, Maya, even natives American.
Literally left out the whole stalin and ussr thing lmao
But how can you be so dumb?
The time of the USSR was very marked by atheism and by the persecution of homosexuals because they did not contribute to the family growing and therefore the leaders saw this as something bad for the growth of the Soviet people.
What book do they read in your country to say all that nonsense?
@Ninja Crackpot You guys will kill gay people for existing but then tolerate rape and lower quality education. Its really weird
@Ninja Crackpot Excuse me, many Asians accept them as well. Japanese, Thais, Chinese, Vietnamese and in Taiwan same sex marriage were legalised recently. Get ur facts rite bruh😊
I love the way they arranged the interview, it seems like they're questioning whether or not if someone been consistent with their prior choices
Yes, interviewer did a fantastic job
Cringing when everyone, even the supportive ones, say it's someone's choice. Trust me, if homosexuality was a choice, most people would choose not to be. It's just so much easier to be straight, especially in homophobic environments.
IFKR??? That's what I've always told people all the time, but they don't listen. They think the LGBT would want to exist in my country, Malaysia, despite its extreme laws against it? It's not a bloody choice, it's what they are. And bigots here keep droning on about how Western influence has turned more citizens gay. No dude, it's making more people realise they're gay, and the government's done a bang up job at forcefully restricting who they can love.
@@carlosuzaier5858 right 😂
Exactly!!!
this is another proof that this is not a choice
It's partly denial I think. If someone accepts that it's 100% not a choice then they pretty much *have* to be tolerant and non judgmental. But if they say it's a choice it makes them easier to justify their criticism.

@@neocamplays2575 Sorry for picking holes but Christianity does not devaluate gay people on the fundamental level. Some people are born that way (despite the fact that propaganda makes many heterosexuals consider themselves to be of a different orientation, which is unfortunate) so it's not the judgement of whether you are predisposed to be homosexual, but of how you control your predisposition and the way you refrain from having sex with people of your own gender, which is in turn considered a sin.
Again, sorry for being wordy and I hope you knew it and just phrased it in a slightly wrong way. I am also Christian, if anything ;)
As a Russian I want to say that the phrase "it is choice" doesn't mean exactly what everyone thinks. This is often pronounced unconsciously, even if the person doesn't think so. Rather, people mean that this is their life, their right.
Personally, I do not consider sexual orientation as a choice, I'm sure that people are born gay, not become. But even I can blurt out "that's their choice" even though I know it isn't. It's like a parasite phrase.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of bigots who don't have self hatred and are just shitbags due to religion etc. I'm sorry, but you can't pick and choose how internalised hatred works.
I get what you're saying, of course not all violently homophobic people are just closeted gays.
But it's definitely a pretty common trend, and with this guy's comment in the video about how he "Just went along with it one time" in the gym, it kind of gives me heavy closeted gay vibes.

@@svarog8253 As opposed to people whose entire personality goes around hating people that have no affect on them? Grow up
3:22 I think this is a prime example one of the many misconceptions about gay people.
I hope gay people never become parents … oh wait
Those were not the most progressive views. Some people did say they would be ok with having a gay child.

They sound pretty evasive using "neutral" all the time
Edit: either that above, or fear of the society itself, of misfitting
@@whalisten I honestly doubt it. I mean, is the Russian government that worried about a handful of straight people saying they don't mind lgbt people existing? Their answer "it's their choice" or "I don't care, they aren't killing anyone" is a pattern seen in many other nations where lgbt minorities are protected by the law as well, like in Brazil. People are taught sexuality is a choice and accept this truth without reflecting because they simply never faced the contrary argument. And given many parents in many nations are against any kind of sex education, it just makes this harder.
I think they dont say it in that sense, i understand it more likely "do with your life whatever you feel" but idk

@@arkaldo8231 sure. I dont care. If thats what it take to have gay basic rights. Sure legalize it
@@arkaldo8231 then they can get together, what the sexual/romantic life of other people has to do with yours...? If both are adults, able to consent there shouldn't be any problem, I never understood why people think they have the power of deciding what types of relationship are acceptable or not, just mind your own business
@@danielamoyra6006 Ew, that's sick!! In your words, everything is okay as long people are onboard with it...Wtf.. Clearly you ain't religious at all.. Wonder what the world is coming to.......
In other countries you do interviews beside the road.
But..
In Mother Russia u do interview on the road
Because its still OUR ROAD
Its not a road bruv, it's like a Red Square, just a place for a walk
Apparently this was in Chita, a town approximately 6k km away from Moscow
I'm surprised no cars have run them over yet. Also I don't see a single car in the background.

I’m both positive and negative about it too. Positive you’re human, you can have your preferences no shame on that. Negative when they got a whole month about it, advertise it to young children, or make “changes” in todays society. No need to push people, let them find out on their own😊✌️
why don’t you stop advertising heterosexuality to children? because thanks to you i grew up hating myself for who i was.
because of pride, lgbt youth hating themselves for something they have no control over will hopefully be a thing of the past. i don’t see why you have a problem with that.
Everything gets pushed
no one is pushing some dumb ass sexuality shit it's only the straights doing that. if being straight wasn't being pushed onto others then we wouldn't get hate crimed every fucking day
