2nd phase was definitely more challenging. Not necessarily the evolutions, or time reductions but the fact it was more exhausting. Long days, two dives a day, as indicated, along with all the other daily runs, swims, o-course, classes, etc. One in second phase has to make the commitment of complete trust. Where the instructor (Teammate) has your back at 15feet underwater, especially during the one-sided underwater fighting.

Thanks Chadd for sharing your story. My Dad was Navy on a Disstoryer patrolling the Mediterranean during the Cuban missile crisis. He told me a lot of stories about the drills they ran on the ship, the ship was the Steinicker originally served in the second World war later it was fitted as a guided missile destroyer.
OMG, I told my parents when I was little that I wanted to be in the U.S.C.G. ,before then I had already been in swim training, my dad had showed me what he learned in the Navy during WWII, I had been on the swim team during school, I had lived in Puerto Rico where the water was really warm, my eyes were opened when we lived in Ca. and I had swam in Coronado, let’s just say it’s not P.R. Or even Va. Bch/Cheseapeake, where we had lived when my dad was stationed at Little Creek. The U.S.C.G. Wouldn’t take me because I was hyperactive, so I ended up in the U.S. Merchant Marine. Even then I was practicing staying underwater for long periods without any breathing apparatus, the most important thing I learned was to keep calm which keeps your heart rate low. Thanks for sharing of your training, and more than that, Thank You for your service.

To be honest it happens in most work places. If there is somebody their that doesn’t “fit in” personality wise or “team player” wise, they will get run out one way or another. I’ve been in the casino business for almost 20 years & have worked at many different casinos from Seattle to now Vegas & I’ve seen my fair share of it. And I was even the one run out of the first casino I worked at when I moved to Vegas in 2006 because after working my ass off to be promoted I realized it was never gonna happen at that casino because it was family owned & they brought in family and friends to fill management positions. So after almost 3 years of working there & doing everything I could to get the promotion I finally just became resentful & let it show. I never did anything wrong to get fired but they grew sick of the hateful attitude I came to work with ever day & made up a bullshit excuse to fire me. I was mad about losing my paycheck but not mad that I’d never step foot in that casino again. But yeah back to the original point, if you’re not liked in any field it is you choose to work in you will eventually be run out of there.

I can’t imagine. What happens to the tough dudes who wash out? So they get assigned another Navy mos? A bus ticket to Marine Training depot across the Coronado bridge? Just curious …. I can imagine a number of alternative paths (airborne ranger straight old infantry) for those who get dropped from Green Beret training.
What happens if someone sits on the bottom and keeps trying to untie their rig until they pass out? Is it a fail for not seeing when its time to abandon ship or is it a pass for having the fortitude or stubbormess to sit there and try to solve the problem until you die?
