This song is kind of "love at first hearing". Thank you again, Tommy, for your enormous kindness in teaching it us from the scratch. Your playing an inspiration for any guitarrist.
Thank you Tommy Emmanuel for this incredible video. I've been thinking about learning this song for a long time, and my guitar playing just took a quantum leap forward.
I'm really into Modern fingerstyle, open tunings and stuff like that but Tommys pieces looks So challenging for me and even if i'm not a huge fan of that kind of music, it looks fun to learn and play it
Finally learned this song after practicing it for a solid month! That turnaround part with all the minor chords is hard as heck! That f minor pinky stretch is hell on someone with small hands. Anyone have an idea of how hard this song is? Someone was asking me the other day if it is difficult to play and I couldn't really answer well because I haven't been practicing it for too long to get it under my fingers, but i feel that some parts are pretty tough.
Thank you for your generosity in publishing this tutorial. I tried some decades ago to try to play this on accordion and piano from hearing the original radio airplay of the piano theme but could not "get" it and gave up. I am a musical illiterate so a written score cannot help me. My old piano, being tuned a half-note low does not help. D becomes E flat. With the benefit of the detailed breakdown, I have managed to find my way around it in my older age.
Yesterday, 30th december 2020, , the composer of Borsalino, Claude Bolling passed away...he was a great pianist, a great jazzman playing with the best musicians...and composed this great original sound track of the movie "Borsalino" with Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon
Jinxed 😭 When I play without capo I’m struggling with spreading my fingers. When I put the capo on the 4th Fred which works perfectly for me until the 2nd bridge. 2nd bridge isn’t a big thing for my fingers without capo. Not a problem at all on my electric guitar but I want to play it on my steel string 😩😄
The difficult thing for me in the main theme is trying to make my right hand get used to the motion of not sliding my index finger to the E fifth fret B string rather than use the open E string, even though it's "easier". When I first started working up this tune that's just how it felt natural and it's a real bear to try and change that muscle memory. Still working on that theme when it goes to the upper register; frustrating! This is my current "project" tune; I got the first half pretty much under my fingers but they really don't want to do the second half...
One year on, did you get it in the end? Thinking of trying it as my own next project but it'll be extremely challenging. Maybe be ready to perform in a year's time! It looks like a great lesson from the great and generous TE.
@@heyasasha I have a serviceable version put together; I was able to retrain my fretting hand to use the open E, but I had to dumb down the second half so my hands can reach it. It's essentially the same, but I simply can't use the same fingerings T.E. does on some things, the guy has massive hands. I've shaken his hand twice, his hand just swallows mine.
4th fret, play G#(low E string), B(g string) and G#(high E), while barring the GBE strings on 2nd fret - allowing you to take off your little finger to play F# note on high E string 😉
This is not a breakdown. This is a masterclass. Love your job Tommy !

I just started practicing this song, it will be my 4th song of yours that I play. It's so great to have you, Tommy. Love from S.Korea.

7:41 "Ok, let me just run through that whole thing slowly for you now"

Move it down one fret at a time, making sure you can play it through slowly, but cleanly. I had to do that with several other songs myself.

You know that you practiced too much when your wife, children and dog start to whistle the Borsalino tune...
JR159753 You also know that you practiced too much when your neighbor puts your head inside the soundhole

Tommy doesn't make a mistake. He unexpectedly changes the key or hit a not you don't expect him to.

Can anyone help me with the chord fingering at about 7:33 after he does that walkdown? I just can't seem to place it right! :S
