    • Disney Scores Biggest ...
Ryan Clarke - Hi, John. I love the show and watch it every day. As you know, Disney set the Global Box Office Record in 2016 earning $7.61 billion that year. This weekend, Disney broke that record earning $7.67 billion so far this year (which is insane since it is only July). With movies such as Frozen 2 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker still to come this year, what do you think Disney's Global Box Office total will be at the end of the year?

Something that no one else is looking at here is the Fox releases. You still got Ad Astra, Spies in Disguise, Ford V Ferrari, and the one with the dog and race car. Those combined are at least another billion dollars in revenue for Disney!

No, the majority of the whole record is 50%+ 1 penny. 50% of their record would be 3.835 billion and Endgame only made 2.79 billion. But with that being said, it is the film that gave the most money to that record, it’s just that everything else of Disney’s slate combined was over 50%.

Then came the age of streaming and bootleg DVD’s and my normal movie going group was no more. Enter Disney with acquiring Star Wars and creating the MCU. Now I have a new group of movie going friends and we see EVERY Star Wars/MCU movie on opening night. This is all because of Disney. They singlehandedly saved the movie theater industry.

My opinion maybe controversial, but I think Aladdin and Captain Marvel doesn’t deserve to join the billion dollars club. Hear me out on this one. For Aladdin, the only reason why it keeps making so much money not because it just another remake that is inferior to the classic, it because most summer movies wasn’t very good and this movie was of them except families and fans just decided embraced the film as they see as a crowd pleaser despite many problems like the cgi, the character of Jafar, and weak direction. Not only that, it has Will Smith as the Genie and everyone turns out to love the character even though it not the same as Robin Williams. It has some things that is wrong with the remake, but most of the audiences just don’t care even with many critics point out of what wrong with this one. For Captain Marvel, first off I am not a sexist regarding with Captain Marvel as the lead superhero of the film. I like strong female lead movies particularly with Wonder Woman as these films show themselves as having great female lead protagonists with a strong story in there as well. For Captain Marvel, I feel like the story was weak in terms of having cliche storyline revolving around a protagonist can’t remember he/she past lives and twist villains and so on. For Captain Marvel herself, I find her uninteresting and feel like it not the character I know from the comics. It doesn’t help when Brie Larson doesn’t give that much of a good performance and she looks so serious and act more like Tony Stark at the same time. Compare to Endgame, I feel like her character was handle a bit better even though she didn’t appear that much. For Captain Marvel, I feel this is one of the weaker MCU films in terms of story and characters portrayed. Plus for an origin film, this should’ve deserved like probably between $500-700 as usually how an origin film gross and to know it that it not as impactful as Wonder Woman was. It made a billion dollars in the first place due to fighting against trolls and this movie was serves as somewhat an appetizer to the highly anticipated movie of 2019 and they want to see what she is and if she capable in helping the Avengers to defeat Thanos, although she turns out to be pretty much useless where she didn’t help the team that much in Endgame except for the grand big battle finale. I’m sorry that I didn’t like both films that much and I honestly feel these two movies shouldn’t deserve to cross a billion dollars at the box office. That all I’m saying.

Congratulations on breaking the record Disney...but it’s an ultra conservative slate (remakes, sequels, shared universe comic book movies). Hopefully 2020 will see some original movies from Disney

Disney's 2019 line up will go down as the Murderers' Row of the film industry.
