trey would use his c mixo/blues/dorian mix all the way on this. he would use mixo for the intensity builds. stacking the triads play an idea four bars at a time outlining the C7 chord. four bars emphasizing c note then four bars emphasing e, then g, then Bb... repeat on up the next octave. The only reason you can say dorian works is bc dorian is just the same as mixo except that minor 3rd, but it is definitely not really dorian
Tonal center is still C, its in the KEY of F, but this is different then F being a tonal center, the tonal center would be C mixalydian, indicated by the first chord in the vamp. Try playing F on top of this progression and you will notice it sounds like it wants to move somewhere to resolve, a tonal center does not have this feeling of inherit movement, a tonal center sounds like home, now try playing a C on top and you will here that this note is content just staying where it is, a quality of the tonal center.
Thank you for that clarification! I use a Scales based off Ted Dunbar's theory of tonal convergence and I don't have a great handle on it but it gets a lot of the bands sound. I augment the dominant V chord and crash home with it and it does always bring that sense of home when I hit C.
It's tonal center is C....it is in the key of C. It is a C Dorian chord progression. So...c Dorian, c min. Pent...all the arpeggios from C Dorian chordal/modal harmony. Use chromatic phrases leading up and down to chord tones and you got it.
@@entztrix I'm on my journey of learning more about my intervals and this comment helped unlock something for me! Wow, makes pentatonic sound more interesting for sure!
12/28/12 used for this backing track. My man! Great show

C Mixolydian is sounding good to my ear over this
So what are they saying want a more aggressive falls
Anyone know what chords this is based on? This is a great track. Def C Minor Pent, C Dorian, ect
Matt Mueller 4 years late but should be Cm - F. They do a lot of i-IV jams, minor 1 to major 4 chords.
