This is great! Kept me jamming for a good 20 minutes. :) Tracks like these make you realize and understand the importance of Bob's rhythmic voicings for Jerry's improvisational solos. Amazing stuff happening there.
So I'll just add this little dittie right before the actual 1989 track I have for this song on ma play list and I can toke up good and proper. THX MAN!
Holy shit thank you so much! This really helped me work out my improvisations and Jerry style licks. Definitely gained a sub man, I LOVE ALL THE GD BACKING TRACKS!!!
Hey man just wanted to drop by and say your GD backing tracks are much appreciated. I jam on these a lot and will keep my eyes open to see if any more get posted. Take care
Long distance runner, what you standin' there for? Get up, get out, get out of the door Your playin' cold music on the barroom floor Drowned in your laughter and dead to the core. There's a dragon with matches that's loose on the town Takes a whole pail of water just to cool him down. Fire! fire on the mountain! Almost ablaze still you don't feel the heat It takes all you got just to stay on the beat. You say it's a livin', we all gotta eat But you're here alone, there's no one to compete. If mercy's a business, i wish it for you More than just ashes when your dreams come true. Fire! fire on the mountain! Long distance runner, what you holdin' out for? Caught in slow motion in a dash for the door. The flame from your stage has now spread to the floor You gave all you had. why you want to give more? The more that you give, the more it will take To the thin line beyond which you really can't fake. Fire! fire on the mountain!
dynamite! (just to date myself) - major didnt work - but i bailed on it almost right away - & switched to mixo. still i will try some other things. its got a great little swing to it. anyway muchas gracias! & i just subscribed
Robert C think of it as modal. Its major key of E but on the B think mix and on A think lydian. But favor the B side as home. And stretch out your thoughts and then come back to a B home. Also B blues over the whole thing sometimes to switch it up and add a major third or bend the minor third here and there. Eb is the major 3rd. Or bend the D before root B.
Great stuff! LOL to the haters crying that it ended too abruptly! "Damn you for not stringing that into Scarlet Begonias or something!!!" Thanks for sharing dude!
This is the Fire from Closing of Winterland 1978. Definitely don't miss this show - the scarlet into fire is amazing and the dark star > other one > dark star > wharf rat is not to be missed.
Stephen Daniels Try switching between B major and A major with the chord changes. Good way to advance the skills. Try highlighting the different notes (many notes are in both scales) right as the chord changes. The famous intro lick is also based on that idea > B, A#, G#, / A, G#, F#
+sdinenno I look at the Amaj and Bmaj as the 4 and 5 chords of the root key, Emaj. It makes sense diatonically, so then you can gauge your solos from there. All modes in Emaj will work. Your relative minor would be C#. Have FUN...that's what this song's all about!
thanks man this is the song thats really helping me learn modes and out of all the fotm backing tracks this is my favorite

Great loop. The key is E major with B and A being the 5 and 4 chords. Mixolydian to Lydian
Could noodle this heady track all day! Add some quack, little delay/reverb you got instant Jerry.
speaking of quack... is someone playing a rubber ducky?
SO SO SO good!
So I'll just add this little dittie right before the actual 1989 track I have for this song on ma play list and I can toke up good and proper. THX MAN!

Long distance runner, what you standin' there for?
Get up, get out, get out of the door
Your playin' cold music on the barroom floor
Drowned in your laughter and dead to the core.
There's a dragon with matches that's loose on the town
Takes a whole pail of water just to cool him down.
Fire! fire on the mountain!
Almost ablaze still you don't feel the heat
It takes all you got just to stay on the beat.
You say it's a livin', we all gotta eat
But you're here alone, there's no one to compete.
If mercy's a business, i wish it for you
More than just ashes when your dreams come true.
Fire! fire on the mountain!
Long distance runner, what you holdin' out for?
Caught in slow motion in a dash for the door.
The flame from your stage has now spread to the floor
You gave all you had. why you want to give more?
The more that you give, the more it will take
To the thin line beyond which you really can't fake.
Fire! fire on the mountain!
I like the picture

Good stuff! I used B Mixo and B minor Penta.
Mr Daniels...Thanks for your input. I'm gonna work out the minor pentatonic too
Stephen Daniels Try switching between B major and A major with the chord changes. Good way to advance the skills. Try highlighting the different notes (many notes are in both scales) right as the chord changes. The famous intro lick is also based on that idea > B, A#, G#, / A, G#, F#
You can also use E major scale because A and B are both in that scale.
try a g sharp major penta. most of the notes of a b mixo fit into it and it gives u a kinda gospel vibe
I'm new to the guitar. If I try to use the pentatonic scale to jam to this what is the proper key?
sdinenno If you're talking Minor Pentatonic (the bluesy one that most people learn first) try either C# or G#
B dorian works
this is amazing... except the ending sucks... the timing is fucked... it just ends... super abruptly.... otherwise this is perfect
That was not an uncommon way to end "fire" back in the day. Don't really know why they decided to do it like that, and I agree its weird
wtf is jerry playing here too lol lol
man the ending kills me every time tho... it just cuts off.. and thats not cool
thats the deads style i hit on the head alot its like its meant to be the ending..
Try, A lydian
Nicholas Dentato Good call with the A Lydian! I never tried it before and it mixed well with B major blues scale.
Art Oloresisimo Jerry always getting down with the major tones, throw in some chromatic... Just saw DARK STAR ORCHESTRA tonight!
Nothing worse than an ad mid-jam. I’ll find a different track :/
