On July 19, 2022 I lost my only brother, Jacques, who lived in Dallas, Texas. I was not able to go down to Texas right away as I had contracted Covid shortly before he went into the hospital. He was aware of this and understood the situation. After he had passed and I tested negative for Covid, I immediately headed to Dallas to take care of his affairs and to make sure my niece (his daughter) was ok. I cannot tell you how hard it is to lose a brother at an age where you never thought it was possible.
What brought myself solace and some peace was when I was flying back from Dallas-Fort Worth International KDFW to Boston Logan International KBOS on July 30, 2022. I was bringing my brother home for the final time to be put to rest with our mother. It was a touching moment and one which I still reflect on to this day as the views from the sky while flying home with him were a sign that he was at peace and with my mother who we both adored and lost early in our lives. The return flight from Dallas was delayed several times as pilots were timing out while we taxied out to the runway before we could leave and we needed to return to the terminal. It was almost as if my brother wanted to stay in Texas just a little longer.
I wanted to share this video to show anyone watching that while grief is hard, life does continue on and we can remember our loved ones through reflecting on moments like this. Everytime I fly as a private pilot, I envision my brother joining me for the ride. My brother was the one who introduced me to the flight simulator when we were teenagers and without that introduction I don't think I would have the love I have for aviation and flying as a pilot today. I owe my brother a lot in that aspect.
Sadly, he was supposed to possibly visit for Christmas 2022 and I was going to take him up for a flight to let him have a little piece of the dream of flight which he inspired me to achieve. I still wonder how big that smile would have been as I would have passed the controls over to him and let him try flying a plane for the first time in his life. I will never know. However, I will always know he is with me in spirit whenever I fly.
It took me a while to be able to make this video but I needed to share it if not for others then for myself. Enjoy your loved ones
while they are with you and cherish their memory when they are gone.
Thank you for reading this message to get some context to what you are about to watch.
Enjoy the views that all pilots yearn to see when they fly. It truly is a magical thing to be a pilot and have the freedom to see
the sights that life allows us.
Included in the video is an original song (4th song) I wrote and recorded for my mother very shortly after she passed. I played it
for my brother as I said my goodbye to him. I dedicate that song to all family that have passed before me.
I love you forever brother and we will meet again
