Before commenters here try to put their own opinions on refugees into Jordan's mouth, keep in mind the 14:33 timemark.
"There's no way of determining, a priori, whose position is correct."
Jordan recognizes on this issue that both the right and the left have valid concerns, which is why it is hard to definitively determine how wide or narrow we should make the gates into our society. Real dialogue is needed. This is not a cut and dry issue.

Bun, The populations of all the world's nations are descended from a very few hundred or thousand families who made it "Out From Africa" hundreds of thousands of years ago. We will represent a very small part of the overall genome, and we will have been selected by the Darwinian mechanism for a small variety of skills, mostly stuff like resistance to thirst and ability to fight mammoths.
Most of human variance is still back in Africa. That's where you find the tallest, the shortest, the fastest. The stupidest are the same everywhere because there's a lower bound below which nobody survives -- but the smartest are almost certainly African.
We already know that most of what's American about American culture, music and linguistic innovation, is African in origin. For raw intelligence -- verbal and arithmetical IQ -- I'd bet on the Dinka being pretty much the equals of Ashkenaz Jews.
The various intelligences are only partly physiological -- but to the extent that they are, Africa is the place to look for the brightest and the best.

Canada's position on immigration is a little different. They don't really have a choice. Their population is aging and retiring and dying. A good proportion of the young population want to do simple jobs and enjoy lives. Canada is also a lot more socialist than say the US. They need a lot more people who can come and take up the science and tech jobs, pay into the tax system and keep enabling the funding of the welfare systems. The Canadian economy is just dead without immigration, which is why they don't leave it up to vote. It's not a choice really.

In this case, Jordan is a real life character of extreme intelligence whom has terrific abilities in so far as articulation go. As for who his polar opposite might be, well, that would obviously have to go to Justin Trudeau (extremely low intelligence, blathering fool whenever he departs from memorized platitudes that were prepared by his handlers).

This video is of the great Jordan Peterson who is genuinely trying make the world a better place. Please watch it and learn that a better world comes through personal responsibility and not through group ideological identities, so stop your left wing complaining by protesting in your groups, it accomplishes nothing but self victimisation. However, I really find it extremely perplexing and disappointing that so many of Jordan Peterson's detractors seemingly want to pigeon hole him, and also try to wrongly envenom what he says and wilfully, mischievously misapply his words. Is that because what he says just doesn't fit in with their narrow world view? All I can say is that what he says is remarkably wise and helpful to so many people, what is so wrong about that? I see no hidden agenda with Jordan's teachings, he is open and totally logical. To say that he is Alt-right or bigoted is an invention of the extreme left, who must be agreed with at all costs, to them anyway. The only way to improve society's ills is to have a free market place of ideas and to discuss them openly, yes even within the so called "Safe spaces" which tend to inhibit free expression, if you need a "safe space" then get on the next shuttle to planet Mars, where you'll have your own ultimate space all to yourself, with no 'one to trigger you. Then lets see how you get on in your personal vacuum of none confrontational safe space!

I love JP's scholarship. However, I come from the East where culturally, perspectives are a lot more nuanced. It's like looking at a red rose and the scientific mind will classifying it as the colour red but in the non-Western imagination, it is the red of the rose. The notion of liberal/conservative is a distinctively Western partition. It seemed that in the East (at least historically), the government simply accepts there's an assortment of characters and it doesn't matter as long as the society is well governed and protected. So the emphasis falls on stability of principles, talent (scholars vs generals) and organisation rather than the debate; the forest rather than tree by tree. There's pros and cons; I'm merely pointing out that culturally, the spotlights falls on different aspect and it affects how logic develops.

      Irurouni,
Nice comment on the East, or at least the pre-industrial East as we imagine it to have been.
Even if such a somewhat different "East" existed, however, note that there would have been a spectrum, between those where the ruling soldiers and scholars cooperated to keep the poor in their places and those where the ruling elites saw a responsibility to help the poor.
The former would be the Right, the latter the Left, among such societies, don't you think?
Meself, I think they would have known it, too.

No. He talks about biological disgust, which helps us avoid getting sick etc. as a partial basis for ethnocentrism/tribalism. In places where this high illness to contagion, people typically hide among their "own kind," and if the epidemic were to happen at the same time as mass immigration of other (unfamiliar) "tribal" groups, the disgust (i.e. biological and psychological) reflex kicks in. I hope I explained that correctly.

@09:50 concerning "resistance to change v status quo"
I disagree that those 2 extremes are expressed by a people's majority although I agree that in some cases they may manifest.
I believe that people object to a "RATE OF CHANGE" that is OVER or UNDER their comfort.
i.e: this is observable in driving cars -- some people do not object to going at 80 mph but might object to 30 mph or 200 mph.
there is an OVER and UNDER rate of change that is unacceptable to anyone - and that IS the phenomenon at play.
So I cannot agree on the "not wanting to change causing total status quo" but a wrongly observed OVER changed or UNDER changed.
Today, people are complaining about TOO MANY immigrants - they may not object to the usual levels of immigration that beset the country forever before.
But to the new levels of immigrations which result in having HALF of the blond heads at school to have turned black.
Half of the kids not celebrating Christmas but Diwali instead. etc. etc. etc.
This is TOO MUCH change -- for the taste of many of the autochtonous population.
On society level, the same limitations exist: the rate of change of importing so many outsiders (with different cultures and life habits) is causing havoc.
Your body can be tortured with huge amount of water introduced too fast so that it cannot be integrated and this will cause pain.
    etc. etc. etc.

While most conservatives stand by the tradition of capitalism, and a core principle of people deserve what they get and get what they deserve,
I also see some conservative - or at least right wing - opposition to some of the extreme disruption of extreme NEOLIBERAL mode of capitalism, and the way Finance has replaced Industry in the West.
Heck, Marco Rubio just blasted back at a WSJ editorial in which he described Finance as getting rich via non-productive math moves + debt, in favor of productive work that produces real goods/real services OTHER THAN so called Financial uh services.

    • @bademoxy
      @bademoxy 5 років тому

"the way Finance has replaced industry in the west"- why should we assume this was an inevitable consequence of actual free market capitalism?
firstly-the manufacturing industry was allowed to be offshored NOT for economic reasons, but for geopolitical reasons of the government.
in regards to finance, the mortgage crisis of 2008 was caused by government INTERVENTION (mac) forcing banks to lend to bad risks in order to get elected.

There is a total of 22 lectures which is probably a semesters worth of lectures on personality. It will take you 26 hours, 53 minutes and 27 seconds to listen to and watch this set of lectures.

Misquotations take many forms, and the following is one of them.
Matthew said of Judas, "Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed and went and hanged himself" (Matthew 27:5). Luke recorded Jesus as saying, "Go and do likewise" (Luke 10:37).

Are these 'results' replicable? I suspect that age is a much bigger predictor. As we age we tend to become more conservative. It has little to do with disgust. How often do you hear 50 year old conservatives say they used to be Marxists when younger? It's very common. Churchill said if you are 20 and not a socialist then you don't have a heart. As much as I like Jordan Peterson, this was not enlightening at all. First, it has nothing to do with the refugee crisis, it is about the theory of conservatism and egalitarianism as psychological immune systems. While that is interesting - it is very oversimplified. the scale of personalities and political views is not that one dimensional. And as sceptic as we are about the European "refugee crisis", it is not because we are "disgusted" and fit in on the right hand of that scale, but because we realize the underlying motives of the globalist elite and destabilizing effects on welfare, security e t c.. This has nothing to do with political lend, also leftists should realize this, although they don't mostly..
