More airplanes would be fantastic. I'd love to see you finish and weather a natural metal finish on an aircraft. I like your presentation and delivery. Well done!
I like learning your techniques and even more so how you handle the hiccups that happen. The type of model doesn't matter to me. Love the modelling cartoon. Didn't know one existed.
Fantastic video! Because of different paint types (my base color coats on models are almost always enamels, rather than acrylics) I may not use the exact same methods, but it is still great to watch these demonstrations. Moreover, it is gratifying to see you don't conceal your mistakes from your viewers. Your issue with the canopy would have totally defeated me, but you found a way around it. There is much to admire about your video demonstrations, and I will keep tuning in to check on what you're doing in the future.
Hi Clayton! You have really done a great job on this iconic aircraft. The whole series was enjoyable to watch, and very instructive. I particularly enjoyed this episode, as it showcased just what was needed to successfully paint and weather an aircraft of this era. The issue with the canopy, particularly after all the time spent masking it, must have really ‘ground your gears’. I think I would have put the kit back in the box, and headed to the nearest pub to cry into my beer. However, in the end, it looks great. I don’t build aircraft myself, but I would certainly like to see you build more in the future, but please keep the armour coming. Love the channel mate, and hope to see more soon. Cheers ‘till then mate!
Thanks Gary. There were a few moments during the canopy dramas where I nearly threw in the towel…but this channel keeps me accountable…so I guess that’s a good thing. Thanks again for your encouragement and support 👍
>I think I would have put the kit back in the box, and headed to the nearest pub to cry into my beer Just my thoughts when I watched the video ;-) I guess I would have needed a week to cool down before any further action.
Bravo mate, it's turned out beautifully!! You know I'm all for more aircraft 😉 (missile's don't count🤣). However, like many others have said below, I will watch (and I learn) from every model you present, no matter the type.
Very nice! The real value for me is your handling of the canopy issue. The courage to remove it and then present it as a benefit speaks well of not only your skill set but the inner commitment to quality. Hats off.
Thank you. I do set a high bar for myself. So high sometimes I make it impossible to reach…but I guess that’s the modelling journey right? Constant improvement and growth? Appreciate you encouragement and support. ☝️🙏🍺
You've done a great job and we have all been there ourselves.....after all that's how we learn, though I must admit builds on UA-cam are great for watching others mess up before you start same kit and you skate through doing a Bradbury! Look forward to seeing it in the plastic at ScaleACT, all the best DD PS - mask arrived all good!
That’s great. Hopefully it gives you a few techniques to think about on your next build. I can’t recommend cutting the canopy whilst attached to the model. That was quite unpleasant 🤣🫣
hello dear Clayton;your technique of painting is great;the work on the canopy is stunning;,yours tips and tricks are appreciable; as much as for planes and armors;cheers Patrick
Nice to see your kind of way and techniques to receive a model which looks great. Absolute convincing result. Great tutorial, Clayton. Wish you a nice weekend. Greetings, Joachim
Excellent job Clayton! Despite being predominantly an armour modeler you have nailed the Hornisse perfectly mate! I would love to see you take on a few more aircraft models in the future 👍
Thanks Glenn. Glad you enjoyed it. I’ll definitely do another aircraft next year, but I think I’ll upscale next time. Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍🙏
@workbenchhobbies4316 you are welcome 😊, I do both aircraftand armour, i have found it's a good way to learn new a new bunch of skills and helps stave off mojo depletion 😄.
Enjoyed your methods in recovering from your issues in this build. I always learn from your processes and while I like armor I also don't mind the occasional aircraft model or whatever you want to build. I always find your builds interesting and you kill me with the little funny inserts you stick in your videos.
Very informative. Thanks for posting this. Glad to see that you’re using AK and SMS brand Acrylic Lacquer Paint, instead of the seemingly more popular/prevalent Aqueous Acrylic-resin hobby paints (that seem to be used frequently for ‘chipping’ effects). Please post more aircraft subject matter 😊🙏
Glad it was helpful! And yes…I use all types of paint. Vote noted for more aircraft…although this video seems to be one of the less popular subjects 🤔 It’s very hard to pick sometimes. Thanks for your input 🍺
Great process video. Reminds me again of the Stuka I build for my brother. It was the time when I didn’t wanted to paint ‘em because of time. Now that I’m a bit more experience and actually paint my models… I kinda regret not painting it and stated to paint it but I just got bored and I am planning to one day buy another Stuka and rebuild it but this time apply the knowledge I gained… plus painting it 🤣🤣
Superb work and incredible attention to detail. As someone who only uses acrylics, I am now considering using your enamels and white spirit methodology as it seems to work so well.
Unlocking the potential of enamels over acrylics (or lacquers) is a game changer. That’s not to say you can’t achieve similar results using different product…but the chemical properties of that combo just makes everything so easy. Good luck and thanks so much for sharing your thoughts 💪👍🙏
Thanks again. I’ll always be an armour guy, but based of the feedback I’ll definitely throw in a few aircraft and other subjects from time to time. Thanks for joining in 👍🙌🏼🙏
@@workbenchhobbies4316 yeah,,, I used to build mostly armour but it aircraft now ,,, I don’t build cars though ,even though I have some in the stash ,,, the painting kinda puts me off
Ammo by Mig has an excellent very low tack tape which I believe they call "velvet tape." It comes in several widths. I've never had an experience using it where it pulled up paint although I've never used it where I used a metallic for the basecoat.
Hi Roger. I haven’t seen that product. I’ll take a look. In saying that I’ve never had issues with tape removing paint before which makes me pretty sure it’s the chipping fluid over the metallic. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts 🙏🥳
Personally I lean more towards armor models than air planes, but as I am watching your videos mostly because I want to see how you do it - including the booboos - I'll leave it to you. After all *you* need to enjoy the task of doing it, the rest of us are just tailing along. I really enjoy the descriptive side overlays in your video explaining what you just said in text, often stopping the video to read them again.
Thank you. That’s really nice to hear. I try my hardest to make this content useful and helpful and try to present them in a professional way. Glad it seems to be hitting the mark. Appreciate you taking the time to comment 🙏
I absolutely love your videos and your love for the hobby! I haven’t built an airplane model in ages ( I build armor models) so I really don’t use masks or tape to mask a pattern. However, I was wondering if a clear coat of some sort over the aluminum paint prior to the chipping fluid would have prevented the lifting of the paint? Looking forward to your next video!
Hey John. Thanks for taking the time to comment. A clear varnish is a great idea! I think you could be onto something there. Will try that next time for sure 👌🏼
Good question: I normally give the model a layer of matt coat before applying the chipping fluid, just in case something goes bad (paranoia). But I am not sure it's really needed, but my base coat is never aluminium paint :-)
I guess it depends how you were intending to mask them. If you could get your hands on an accurate mask set then do it for sure. If you were suggesting hand painting then I’d say absolutely not. That would be extremely tricky. Hope that helps 🙏
Not impossible but it would be a scary proposition. I wouldn’t even try. Don’t think I could do it. But…fortunate favours the brave. What’s the worst that could happen? You might nail it!
It's not like you suck at aircraft modeling. Lol. It's all about how you go about building and finishing a model. Whether an aircraft or tank. Wanna throw a wrench in? Do a ship. Like the Hobbyboss 35th Seahund. Might be Bronco models. Lol.
Hey Will. I actually have that kit in the stash. Bronco for the record. I have built a couple of ships before, so it’s not off the cards. You just never know 🤗
