Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, Ian walks down the moat walls to start the long process of cleaning the 500-year-old castle moat! Our new wet saw has arrived and we put it to the test. Benoit returns for the first time since his accident and we are happy to see his smile and get some advice for our renovation project.
Our "beau chateau" (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!
You can support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community, where you can also gain access to exclusive videos and behind the scene access with Daphne and Ian! All patron funding is used to renovate this historical French Chateau. Every patron is paramount to our chateau renovations and we thank you all tremendously!

Ah it’s so lovely to see Benoit doing well. Many blessings to him.
With his new tools he will create magic for your Chateau.
i was so glad to see him at the start of this as well
So nice to have Benoit as a mentor. Everything is looking great at the chateau.❤
He needs crocodiles for that moat and a bridge able to be lifted during critical times.
Great to see Benoit back again !
Tellement bon de voir Benoit. Soyez patient avec votre guérison, mon ami.
So very good to see Benoit. Be patient with your healing, my friend.
I think the door turned out really nice, oh but what a big job!!! Hugs, Kathy USA 🇺🇸
So happy that Benoit was blessed thru his tragic accident. Nice to know there is so many loving generous people in the world because sometimes it seems we are surrounded only by negativity and evil in this world.
Benoit, so deserving and so loved!
It is wonderful to see Benoit out and around. He is just a sweet person and deserves the best tools possible.
Welcome back Benoit...... Now your dreams have comes true. Well deserved 👏 ❤😊
Sweet video. Saving the birds was epic. Benoit’s sincere visit and sharing his overwhelming gratitude was very touching. Great moat work and tile prep you two!
The chicks were so cute! It was so nice to see Benoit getting better and looks like both of you are getting safety equipment for all your work!
That mower is the most versatile piece of equipment; It mows, moves, tows and is a movable hoist. Very nice! 👏🏆💛
The quip about the safety harness made me laugh out loud! The duct tape has been a handy addition. Cool that you've found a great way to make the tiles waterproof. The kitty on the shutter made me smile. Wonderful bird rescue. Seeing Benoit joking and helping you on the bathroom was awesome! Happy people came together in such a generous way for him!
New Duct tape advertisement! Duct tape is even useful for sheltering homeless birds from the weather!
As soon as Ian said he Duct taped the umbrella, I heard in my head Ian McGiver has done it again! (Might wanna buy more)
Ok, that last bit with Benoit and your pup was amazing! It just shows what a special person he is and how lucky you are to have the benefit of his craftsmanship.
And btw Ian, “Wedgie Master 3000”😂😂😂
I’m so happy to see Benoit back in action. Hope he feels better. And both of you are doing such a wonderful job.
The cat was so adorable!
Cleaning the moat sounds like quite a job. I watch Stephanie who has the de Lalande ... Chateau Dairies channel... and their gardner Dan at the time put a row boat in the moat and used a flame thrower to burn the growth off the walls of the moat. It looked a lot easier then climbing down the wall. I tried to find the YT video but was unable to locate it. I love your chateau & channel. sending the best!! ps Anna & Phillip are friends with Stephanie .... maybe there is a way you talk with Stephanie.
The best part of my Mondays!!
For the moat, it might be easier to clear what's near the rim by hand without the harness. Then you could clear everything below that with a small boat or paddle-board.
Probably easier with two people, one person can hang a pole net over the rim to pull up debris and save you the climbing.
An 8 foot Jon boat would probably be a good investment. A long pressure washer hose too so you can leave the washer unit on the rim and hang the nozzle/hose down the side.
Benoit! So good to see you!
I’m so happy to see Benoit doing well!!
Wedgy master 3000!😂 and thanks for that benoit update. Makes my little nurse heart happy that injury is being prevented.
Oh how nice to see Benoit working, laughing and kidding around again. Ian, the wall is a huge project especially hanging off the side with a small plastic bag. I think if you had something better to gather the branches it would go faster. The shutters freshly stained is going to make a huge difference. Lovely video as usual. xx
Thank u for ur kindness with those precious birdies 🙏🏽❤️😍
Of course! We love all of the birdies that sing around our chateau 🥰
Oh the baby birds are so adorable 🥰
Nice video...moat cleaning was fun. I will say I've seen it done w/ teams, one person clearing in a boat or raft & other person clearing above & throwing down onto boat. (And some w/ a blow-torch going after the vines from a boat.) Your suspended approach is more entertaining to watch though.🙂
So glad to see Benoit bon courage a tous
Benoit!! So good to see him. ❤
It is so wonderful to see Benoit doing so well and it thrilling to see he has been blest by the donations. Your Chateau is simply beautiful and it is a joy to see every improvement you are doing!
Love what you did for baby birds and momma bird❤
Cleaning the moat looks like a Herculean job. You're a brave man, Ian! What a delight it was to see Benoit well on the road to recovery.
Benoit!! So happy to see you out and working!!! You are one special person!!!
Oh Benoit - how wonderful to see you again and looking so well! Can’t wait for you to get your new equipment so you can return to work safely.
So nice to see Benoit!! I've prayed for his recovery!!
What a huge job cleaning the moat will be! So happy to see Benoit doing well and recuperating. Looking forward to seeing the tiles go down. They are beautiful!
You two are the sweetest people, love the birdhouse so excited to see bathroom finished
Great seeing Benoit and seeing his spirit is high😀, very good!
Every time I watch your videos I get a lump in my throat... this time was no different. 🙏 So good to see Benoit again, I hope his hand heals 100% ❤
So so happy for Benoit 🙌🏻🥰
I really enjoy following your progress…..you are such a lovely couple and a joy to watch. Very pleased to see Benoit again….he’s a gem❤
You’re Chateau is just beautiful from the drone shots. Your cat was to cute. Lil birds were cute too.
So happy to see Benoit back and doing better. A thought about the moat walls -- I thought you had a boat for the moat - could you tie it off below you and toss the debris into it (I would fit it with a tarp with grommets that are threaded with a rope so you can just pull it up when full rather than pulling the boat out). Such a lovely chateau to watch coming back to life under your care.
It’s so wonderful to see Benoit sooo happy! ❤
It's wonderful to see Benoit on the mend and able to get new machinery soon.
James Bond(Ian) in his Wedgy 3000🤣 It was nice to see Benoit. Great job Daphne and Ian on your jobs at the château. Thank you for entertaining us❤️
Another Benoit siting! So glad to see and hear he is on the mend and able to replace four of his machines! Congratulations on the progress you are making with the chateau.
Oh my goodness, you couldn't find duct tape 😄😲 !!! It is my go to tool for a lot of things, glad Costco came to town, lol. Good to see Benoit. You have a major chore ahead of you Ian cleaning that moat, but you will get it done. Hugs to the kitty cat and Archaea.
I like that Benoit is back in form and he’s getting creative about hiding is hand in his pocket. :)
Amazing fund raising for him guys! Chapeau!
So many prayers answered for Benoit 🥰 Thanks to all the beautiful people out there 🥰🇨🇦
I agree that removing the Ivy from the stone moat wall looked very uncomfortable while using the harness. 😢//
Nice tile cutter machine! 👌// Neat idea to save the tiny birdies in the old Chateau cage! 🐦🐦🐦
The new paint color for the shutters looks great! It will be somewhat messy to remove the old paint with paint remover, 😝 but a tarp goes a long way in protecting the grass or floor area where you're working. Can't wait to see the finished shutters!😄💜👍
Thank you for the video and update with Benoit. Benoit is so loved for who he is and his love of wood working, he is so deserving of a gift of safe tools. Tell Benoit he is loved, and of course you 2 ❤
That's wonderful about Benoit's equipment upgrades!!!
Archaea has found the love of her life!❤🐾 Glad the tiles got sorted. If you two want children in the future, Ian needs to be extra careful wearing that harness!🤭Hope you both are doing well. Cheers, Doc❤
Great episode!
The birds are so lucky you are their caretakers! ❤
Nice to see Benoit!
The shutter colour is fab!!
Daphne….your impression of your dad was spot on! Hilarious!! Also, I don’t know if you have realized this but your voice is soooo calming when you do the voiceover on the video. 😉🥰
Ian….wow! The wall of the moat!! 😳 That is such a huge job. I’m so glad you are getting more tools to help you. “Work smarter…not harder” 👍🏻😉. It was wonderful to see Benoit. I’m glad he is healing and can’t wait to see his new workshop! I’m so glad you and Phillip and Ana joined forces to help the château restoration watching community to fund his new tools. He looked overwhelmed by the generosity. 👍🏻 👏 Can’t wait to see the bathroom reveal! Blessings!
💙😫🥰🙏
Ian is a brave lad. If I were 40 years younger I would enjoy doing that project! Repelling off a wall is something I always wanted to do. I love watching the progress of the Chateau.
Wedding season is coming up fast. Can't wait to what you have coming up this summer.
I love you guys- such kinds hearts ❤I am so happy that we could all help Benoit - we need to keep him safe!
Sense of humor is great. It is hard work. At least your doing it. You could just quit. You two
Make a great team.
Always happens when doing DIY! The estimated time to do the task is often exceeded by a factor of 4 or more. Good luck with the moat! New supply list: Jet Pack and Flame Thrower, you'll be done in no time!😁
great suggestion! I want to watch that happen
Also a boat where he can put all the greenery. So he could concentrate more on cleaning then climbing up and down.
I so look forward to your videos! Stunningly beautiful drone footage of a truly glorious chateau, and I really enjoy your personalities, your sense of humour and interactions with your animals. The rescue of the baby birds was heartwarming!
That moat wall, though. Big job. I'm impressed with the progress you made. Definitely would go faster with a second person there so you don't have to keep coming up and getting back out and then going back down. The second person could take the vines and empty the bag for you, leaving you free to just remove them. Easy for me to say, right? Haha.
He needs a little boat to drop the vines in.
@@gingermonette7455 Yes. I was thinking a boat or a raft with shallow sides.
Hi Daphane and Ian, what a tremendous job on the moat Ian, that looked so difficult and uncomfortable, well done. The tile work is coming along nicely. The most efficient way for the shutter is the best way to go. So good to see Benoit, on the mend and in good spirits. Wishing him well going forward, and I am so happy he will now be modernized to continue his beautiful work. Thanks for sharing with us. Love from N.Y.
Love the nesting box with the umbrella - so chic! And Ian looks uber-cool doing James Bond chateau repair.
The birdies seem content in their new house! One of them has already learned to fly and has left the nest 🥰
The duck tape was hilarious that Costco opens local to you and your both excited to get duck tape! 😅 The shutters look great. The walls the of the moat look great even if it’s just 10 feet. It was so good to see Benoit giving you pointers on the bathroom.👍🏾
Thank you Daphne and Ian for all your hard work that goes into making the videos. Its so appreciated.
Hi guys, another great video. Nice to see Benoit, Daphne. You look tired, I guess with all the work going on, I would be too. Love from South Australia 🇦🇺see
Yes! After watching many videos in which the cat is ignored, finally some quality cat petting 😻
I believe the rule of thumb for renovations/cleaning up after long periods of neglect, is to allow at least triple the time expected. Maybe, being a novice, allow a little more again. Takes time to get comfortable and experienced. Doing a good job. Wonderful new for Benoit. Glad he is looking well. Best wishes.
This was such a great video. The wall repelling, rescuing the baby birds, the new saw for cutting stone, and seen Benoit again. 😁
Beautiful Chateau for sure👍👍❤️
It is remarkable! So many end up in shambles because it takes love and dedication and alot of money to do this kind of incredible work.
I would not feel confident going over the wall like that, well done.
I enjoyed your entire video. Cleaning the moat must be a long job but lovely results. Very nice saw you have purchased. Blessings.
Thank you for sharing...loved the music as Ian cleaned the wall ... Love the color of the shutters...The bird rescue was amazing...Benoit is the man! And always my fave, the drone work as the sun casts the shadows... beautiful ❤️
I enjoy watching your vlogs immensely…so calming to see your approach on managing such a beautiful property. Benoit looks so good. Happy people donated to such a talented artist to make his life better.
Great video Benoit welcome back ! The Moat big task two people better then one the person up top could bring bag back up to empty and send back down to the person in the harness save so much time !Achieved so much more just a thought !
I love the grounds, they look so beautiful; you've done a great job bringing them back. And I loved seeing Benoit and it looks like he's happy and healing. I gave to the Go Fund Me for his new wood working machines; I hope that he shows us all what he's gotten after he decides what to purchase. Have a wonderful week, thank you for this video. (from Sandi)
always a pleasure to see how life is over at your château
Could you rig up some scaffolding/platform like window cleaners use? Take several bags for debris and when needing to reposition platform you dump bags. Would love to be there to help! Stay safe. Love your new tool it will make tiling a breeze.
"The wedgie master 3000" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂
He is really funny. I love his delivery.
Fantastic update ❤❤❤
love your vlogs❣️not only are you turning into great craftspeople but baby-bird-savers, too❣️plus it's great to see Benoit getting well again❣️
Yay... Benoit! So happy for him and hoping all is healing well! 🍀
Another great video!
Ian,
You will find a hoist that gets you away from the wall will help you in your struggle to clean the moat walls. The best tool you could rent would be one of the articulated scaffolds used for bridge maintenance. One of the Aerial lifts that is articulated to allow you to get below the wall, clean a large area at once & move along in comfort.
Work look's great!
Firstly, bravo, and saving those little birds, and making them a house with the roof! Lol. So sweet. And it is so nice to see Benoit doing well! Please send him all my love and hugs from Chicago. 😊♥️
At LaLand they had a torch that burned off the vegetation from the moat walls. They stood in a boat while they removed the vegetation. You might want to try it but will need 2 people.
😂 All of Ian's comments while cleaning the moat! " Wedgey Master, Medieval Santa Claus" and more! ❤
It was so good to see Benoit. With his new machines he will be able to do his beautiful work and safely.❤
You are SO innovative! First cleaning the moat. You only need a "panga". We use it in Africa to clear the woods to walk through it. The panga works so fast, your harnas will not even be an issue. You should have filled the tiles with "epoxy" ? Oh they are gorgeous! They look great though. Glad to see Benoit and thank you to all the rich people who helped him to purchase the right tools. What a great tile cutter enjoy!! The birds made my day!! I've never seen such a hotel bird nest and that at a chateau! What a clever mother to except your kindness. The umbrella - wow, I couldn't help laughing. You should consider an animal rescue at the chateau. You are gifted. Best wishes on all your projects.
When Heyen put on his harness I was expecting him to start singing in soprano, perhaps a song from a Disney princess.....
sending love to benoit. what a lovely man he is. looking good at the chateau.
You 3 together are something! Good fullfiling jobs and thanks for the birds so glad the mother comes along. You definitively rock team Daphne, Ian and Benoit❤❤❤❤
SO good to see Benoit back and to hear how many machines he’ll be able to replace!!
Ian, what an incredible workout to clean out the moat!!
Exciting to see continued work on the bathroom and shutters and an incredible baby bird rescue! Bravo!!
Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
Thank you Mary!
We have a been keeping busy but there is always more to do 😄
Benoit vous êtes un vrai cœur. Ça fait tellement plaisir de vous voir en forme et encore plein d’idées pour les rénos
Archaea knows what’s up. She knows how to pick’em 😊
That is legit the coolest designed house/grounds, lucky ducks.
Nice to see Benoit. Also nice that Ian did not go swimming.
Yep, Bosun Chairs hella a lot more comfortable than a swiss seat. In regard to taping the back of the tile, spraying or painting a clear coat would seal it fast and efficiently so nothing would seep out when you flip them. I would say a good belt sander would do the trick formthe doors and shutters and be good for future projects.
Next time you need to clean the moat walls launch a small boat or floating deck to drop the branches, vines and debris on to. I’m pretty sure I saw a boat ramp in an earlier vid which might make it easier for the lower brush and then pull the top vines over the wall from the top.
Benoit is so sweet, really reminds me of my father in law who has always been so kind in helping us with renovations, hopefully one day he will be helping us with out very own chateau/castle. Many blessings on all of you and your beautiful Beau Chateau!
Duct tape to the rescue! Good to see Benoit smiling and joking again
It's a beautiful chateau and glad to see it being restored to former glory for generations to come.
So wonderful to see Benoît on his feet and joking around. Bravo1
Oh my gosh, Ian, so much work! You need an assistant. But everything is looking great - including you and Daphne.
Ohhh Ian stating he has to squeeze into the harness .....yummmm lol
So good to see Benoit. I think you need his son, Nathan to give Ian French lessons. ❤
