This drill IS NOT a muscle-memory drill for a full-motion shot. It specifically targets shooting form in wrist movement as well as balance in the forearm and shoulders. It also improves strength in your shooting immensely while conditioning that strength for specifically wrist and forearm motion. You do not do this exercise on its own to improve your shot. You combine it with other exercises to improve the entirety of your shot. Criticizing this drill would be like criticizing wall sit exercises for not practicing the EXACT form for playing defense.
Doing this (the laying down) made me better at my shots. This made me more confident in my shots. But the only difference is that I do this with only one arm. Doing this got me able to knock down 7 shots in a row at most.
A modification for laying on the back technique. While in the sitting position, have the player point up at the natural shooting angle. Hold that angle, then lay down on their back again. They will be pointing in the same angle. Have them lay on the floor with their head about 3 feet from a wall, feet pointing away from the wall. When they shoot, the ball will go in the same angle as a natural shot. As an added benefit, the backspin on the ball will make it rebound right back to their chest. Repeat …
Do you know where to find the video of Michael Jordan and Steve Kerr promoting this exercise? I believe I’ve seen the Jordan one but I’ve not seen the Steve Kerr one. Are their other NBA guys or well known figures talking about this drill that you know of anywhere that can be found?
Can You help me with my jumper? I have a James harden and Stephen curry jumper combined using the mechanics you guys have posted and I have been struggling with bringing the ball up/my shot path and hand placement lately any tips?
I disagree. This drill is great for improving one’s shot. It’s not solely designed to translate directly to shooting in all situations, or to mimic a perfect shot. It’s value lies in the many ways it helps to improve upon certain aspects of one’s shooting form, like touch, balance, strength, shot pocket formation, elbow alignment, follow through, back spin, target precision (not hitting the ceiling), and much more. For these reasons, this age old, tried and true exercise greatly benefits one’s shooting form. With all due respect to this creator, this video falls into the category of “grenade fishing”. Grenade fishing refers to a controversial marketing tactic where someone deliberately takes a polarizing stance on a topic to attract attention and engagement, often with the intention of promoting a product or service. It involves creating content that sparks curiosity or controversy, enticing audiences to explore further and potentially leading to increased visibility and sales opportunities. Hence the product being sold at the end of the video. Again, this exercise encourages far more positive behaviors than negative to one’s shooting form. Much like not jumping on free throws; just because other shots require jumping, it doesn’t mean practicing free throws is bad for one’s shooting habits, simply because jumping on free throws isn’t advisable. Practicing free throws is still great for one’s shot in general. The truth is that it’s important for a shooter to be able to adjust their shot pocket position depending upon where the shot is being taken from, whether it’s contested or not, etc. Adjusting aspects of one’s shooting form is vital to becoming a affective shooter. Practicing one’s shooting form while lying down is an effective ongoing exercise and/or great starting point to improving one’s shot.
This is exactly what happened to markelle fultz. His trainer tried to fix his shoulder with this stupid training exercise and it made him start shooting from his chest and ultimately ruined his nba career.
I hope a lot of kids get to see this, so many would think they’re doing the right thing without a hoop but getting in reps that could hurt their form. Thanks for pointing it out!

I agree with alot but the lay down drill is to work on your wrist motion nothing else that drill helped me within days

Hi Coach! I`d like to see a video about improving your range without a basketball hoop. Love your videos! Keep it up!
This drill helped both Steve Kerr and Michael Jordan. I wouldn’t dismiss it, they have both recommended it.

This drill is more ab warming up shooting touch than accuracy

you don't understand the meaning of this drill. it is so that you can g3t a flick on the wrist
I never knew that drill was so bad!!! Luckily, I never do it, rather I perform chair shooting. Can I use it as a chest passing drill though?
Yes it can really mess up your mechanics on your shot! Way to utilize chair shooting it's much more realistic!
@@ShotMechanics Can I use the drill as a passing drill though?
@@club6525 I don’t think so because it makes your form messed a bit I believe but Idk

my air pump pin broke can u make a video on how to pump your basketball without a pin
If you have a air compressor, just force the nosal on top of the nipple, add a little at a time because you can't deflate without a needle.
