When Tarantino speaks like this, our countrymen go mental. But people don’t realise that somewhere, VVC probably inspired Tarantino.
well said 👏
Yo bro
VVC aside, Tarantino is supremely overrated!
Tarantino and VVC are primarily artists and it’s their individual artistic sensibilities that attract attention from different cohorts around the world. Not which country they’re from. Simply crafting narratives when there isn’t any.
Both r alcoholics
9:02 what a beautiful moment...That is exactly why baddy is a gem and we need more ppl like him.
True beautiful
Yeah truly beautiful❤
also at 28:55
Being a baddy fan for several years, when a filmmaker acknowledges him is so emotional for me.
he's 71 😮. Man, he looks way younger.
Kashmiri genes
This is was so beautiful to witness - the creator and the critic converging in appreciation of the artform
100%
This interview was such a great interview…VVC found his match and what a great interviewer…truly enjoyed this interview
The happiness is clear in this conversation which is possible only when two people who truly understand cinema (both as a craft and as an art) can read each other.
Probably the most profound interview of BR. Absolute passion and positivity oozing out of my screen. No wonder with a heart like VVC can make such movies. This is art and this is what we live and love for. Thanks again BR.
This is probably the most inspiring interview I have ever seen. What a man! What a filmmaker! What passion! It's unbelievable
Always a delight to listen to Baradwaj Rangan ask the most nuanced questions. This gentleman loves and understands cinema with sincerity. No pretence.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra, one of the few writers in our country who knows the pulse of the audience here
Tears were just dripping from my eyes at several points during this movie.. It's hits so hard ..
When he passes finally n drops down like one generally wud do when one has failed .... Or when he talks to his father at aata chakki place.. N so many more.. Thanks 🙏🙏🙏
Thank You! VVC for your wisdom and I watched the movie and interview on New year and I think this is a sign which screams Year of #restart to me. This is one of the century’s greatest interview. To every honest, self-conscious and arrogant person who search for excellence. And baddy❤
P.S. Can you please do 3 hour long form interview. I want to hear this gentleman’s story and his search for excellence.
Dude! 2199? Fr?

All the best brother!!! Happy to see someone's excitement
LOL! Dont worry ! He can go for 3 days ! one thing VVC likes is talk about himself ! Dig up some old interviews from his 1942 or kareeb days if you can . If not for Raju hirani guy would have been bankrupt by no w. Raju makes loads of money for him and then he burns it on stuff no one watches. His first hit in 44 years !
It's such a surreal feeling to see a filmmaker be so passionate about what he is doing. Very inspirational and moving stuff. I could see where the film came from just like how he said - from himself.
12th fail deserved more love in the theaters, but it is already the most watched film in 2023 on hotstart within 3 days of its ott release. I hope this becomes India's official entry to oscars this time.
Very underrated
it earned 66 crores , it was appreciated well by public
im glad it is well-received.
Dear Baradwaj Rangan, how many times do you watch a movie (especially12th fail), for you to note down everything about each and every scene - dialogues, bgm, silence, acting, expressions, makeup, camera shots, etc. etc... 🤔
One of the wholesome, genuine, pure, honest which stirs some chords, nostalgic due to passion u see on interview, it really shows VC has left himself in every film he made, Thank you BR for amazing interview, taking home some super insights like this really made me think my whole perspective on life of chasing something, when watching , be damn honest without conflict in mind, probably be proud of it, no need to be humble all the time if you are true to yourself and work, not answerable to anyone just to satisfy your own curiosity and passion!! ❤❤

G.O.A.T Interview.
Sheer pleasure to watch this incredible conversation between two people who understand cinema. So much learning!
And the way they acknowledge each other, beautiful!
Thank you, BR and VVC.
29:01 those who all search for this movement❤
Malayalam interviewers should learn from this person..how to prepare interview..this is an absolute study class.its not about views its quality that matters and the defintion is Baradwaj rangan
9:10 everytime i see someone is mad abt Cinema like me ❤
11:37 👏
BR's reaction when VVC said music felt like Pather Panchali is so pure. 😊 Quizzer trivia vibes.
As much as the guest is great , a well deserved mention to the interviewer, who mirrors the guest’s knowledge and stir enthusiasm. Maddy if your reading, ur responsible for future film makers . Thank you!
True , this is incredibly inspiring for many film makers
Some how his words made me cry, just the pure passion in his voice i will make sure i watch this film in theatre this friday
Cry? Need to develop a thick skin fella, else the world will eat you alive.
@@amarc4697 this is my social media avatar bro in really day to day life i have crafted a skin so thick that even the world's most piercing insult bounce off me and hit them right back. 😂😎
3:57
Oh my god
Since the time I watched this film i raved about this fact to everyone that the music was pather pachali and Chopra sir incorporated it in such a beautiful manner!!
Thank you!
Yes, me and my wife also felt the same, the music had the same soul of pather panchali if not exactly the same music
Thanks, BR for an exhilarating interview. Amongst several profound takeaways, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's work emphasizes that the message is more important than the messenger!! And what comes out clearly is that #reinventing oneself is as important as #restarting. An interview to cherish.
You know what was Dunki missing it was Vidhu Vinod Chopra i have come to conclusion that VVC is the tadka that Rajkumar Hirani needs in his films which was missing in Dunki
Well said dear. I also felt the same. I always felt VVC is a crazy genius. He has never been after money or else by now he would have made so many Munnabhai
VVC's wisdom filled thoughts and approach to movie making, just amazes me. He energy, intentions and conviction doesnt seem like a 72 year old guy. Respect to you sir ❤
One of the best film interviews I’ve ever watched. Loved it to bits
Few days back I listened to Bharadwaj Sir and I watched the movie Yesterday. Today I am listening to two wonderful individuals who know the art of cinema.🎉❤
31:49 Bharadwaj: That’s a movie vinod
Vinod : yes somebody should make it 😅
Being a huge fan of BR for years now, I have never commented on any of his videos. But the way 12th fail inspired and then watching this video couldn't resist myself. Simply Amazing. Hats off both you guys :)
Omg, Mr V V Chopra is on another level. The “Pather Panchali” discussion struck me the most. Excellence is not a target , it’s the pursuit. Mr Chopra embodies it. Thx for bringing him in
This man gives me goosebumps with each line ❤
Looong time listener and first time caller, here. I have to say that this interview was a joy to watch. Time and again, I had goosebumps and the pure joy felt by Vinod & Baradwaj was clearly evident. BR's eye for picking up small details in the movies that he reviews is uncanny and was in full effect. In some ways, BR was as much of a perfectionist as Vinod is. :)
For an "arrogant" filmmaker from Kashmir, Vinod is inspiring in how someone should live their life, especially their late life. Thanks for doing this interview and giving us a dose of inspiration amindst the winter doldrums of January in New York, where I am.
Beautiful. Just halfway through the movie and immediately caught the Pather Panchali reference in the BGM. Vikrant Massey is heartbreakingly earnest. VVC lives on, giving the audience a stunner almost four decades after Parinda. Respect.
You feel so so happy listening to him talk❤️ An absolute legend!
Sir I watched the film in chandigarh..iam from south..iam from a simple small family now a doctor in reputed place..I had so much tears why watching the film..I wished this film is dubbed and released in Tamil.. thank you for doing this
It is released in Tamil too.
One of the best interviews ever. It’s so motivating to see someone ooze so much passion!
Firstly I watched this Interview and Then I watched the Movie ... And again m Watching this Interview... Oh man ... Just fell in love with VidhuSirs conviction and Kudos to Baradwaj sir for this treat.
What a conversation this is, with two of my most favorite people talking about cinema
Just watched this after 12th fail. The best in recent times! What a great visionary VVC is. Goosebumps. True inspiration! 🔥
He is the true filmmaker ❤ getting this emotional after watching an interview is for the first time.! Thankyou
You’re best interview imo Baddy ! No recency bias. Something felt extra special in this interview. You getting some much needed recognition on air felt so pure. Also VVC talking this passionately is the other part which makes it so enduring.
This is the best interview I have seen so far in Galatta Plus. Congrats baradwaj for creating this Gem.
Pure Movie!!!! Movie made to rethink life, Director made me to restart life
This is probably the BEST interview I have ever seen!!!!💯💯💯💯💯
It's an experience which struck me deeply and is gonna stay with me for a very very long time.
Such a pure conversation between two cinema geniuses. 💎🎬🔥
Never has an interview touched me so strongly. I had tears in my eyes at times just by VVC's impeccable passion for cinema which felt sooooo relatable. ❤️🥹
Its time to #restart and be a better filmmaker. ✌🏾
I just came back from the theatre watching this movie. I watched the interview before watching the movie and now after watching it as well.
The interview is not promoting the movie or exaggerating the movie but they just speaking real things about the movie. Best Movie from bolly after a decade. You can place this movie on the same level as Swades, Rang De Basanti and Taare Zameen Par.
If the panelists are real then this movie will be winning awards in every section like acting, dialogue and technical sides like sound design, editing, art etc.!
Due to less BGM you can even hear sounds from the nearby screens.
Thanks for this wonderful interview.
Very good interview. We identified with this film, as, when my son & his girlfriend ( now his wife for a decade) went to US for higher studies straight from engineering college in 2009, we all went through the same emotions. They are P.HDs and realised their dreams.
The way the director was enjoying the conversation, that's the power for Baddy! Honestly, I never noticed a lack of a music in this movie. Its that amaizing!
Baradwaj Rangarajan is the only critic with brain among all indian critics. Great interview.
The greatest filmmaker we have had the privilege of experiencing.
Excellent interview! One of the best ones on the channel 👍
VVC is a genius beyond words… right from my first visual of his Parinda when Jackie’s entry shot ( best entry shot ever) to the shot of Vikrant crashing on his knees after the results or the aata chakki scene.. sir forever your fan.. you blow my mind every time..
This interview deserves a separate filmfare. Brilliant from Baradwaj Rangaan
Thank you Vinod ji! 1942 - A Love Story is a milestone movie in my college days. My hostel room was full of RDB Shab's great tunes those days.
Interviews are always great, when curiosity beats judgement. Such a wonderful interview. I recommend everyone who has watched the movie to watch this.
This interview is as awe inspiring as the movie itself!! Vidhu Vinod Chopra you are a gem ❤
This movie should be sent to oscar , despite that toxic Animal.. it's a pure gem✅💯
9:06 i love them so much. I felt Vvc sir when he said this❤. Baddy is ❤
This was so lovely. 2 lovers of cinema heartfelt conversation
Such a sweet conversation ❤
Awesome interview with so many insights, thanks for the informative interview with the legend VVC.
Firstly, special Thanks to galatta plus for this one. Having watched this wonderful movie,i was really hoping if someone wud PROPERLY cover vidhi sir's interview on this movie.. So thanks 🙏
Secondly, thanx a lot to you sir bcoz this really brought me at peace with a work that i had been doing for quite some time.. But i was starting to feel as if I failed at it.but now I know that what's more important. To do it from the heart. It may not be accepted by the masses but i shud feel right doing it. Thanks a ton vidhu sir
Thank you Baradwaj Sir for wonderful interview... Hats off to VVC sir...
Loved to hear Baradwaj sir ask about the background score. Throughout the movie I noticed how understated the score was in an almost old fashioned way! I am a firm believer that background score has a huge role in the success of a movie and its importance is never understood! I have at several times watched movies that were failures at the box office and noticed how off the bg score was and how a better score would have elevated the scene… Loved the interview!
I absolutely love this interview and i really liked the expression when BR says about the singing scene and he says nobody understands my movies nobody notices but at the end he says i don't read reviews if you don't read reviews then how can you say that nobody understands your movies and not notice,,other than this one simple thing i really loved his passion towards filmmaking
Maybe he doesnt, because nobody gets as precise.
I mean look at Animal's reviews. People are bashing it because the male lead is toxic.(which is laughable because the movie was about a toxic man! Its like saying why DDLJ is having romance in it)
Instead, Animal should be bashed because the storytelling isnt good. Its a completely diff thing.
The best interview so far in this channel
What a wonderful interview! Kudos to Baradwaj Rangan for his noticing the nuances of this masterpiece and probing with the right questions to the master filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra. This made the discussion so great and inspiring.
What an amazing conversation. Binge watched it on loop. This is what I feel is a conversation of cinema where both of them understand in depth the art of cinema/filmmaking. BR sir you an inspiration and you prove that watching cinema is beyond just entertainment. When you interact with filmmakers, it feels that cinema is truly an ART. Vidhu Vinod chopra sir, totally a fan girl. I remember watching Mission Kashmir as a kid and the impact it made on me was incredible. Loved this conversation. thank you
my favorite interview in recent memory. here is a man who isn't gonna sound pompous by using big words and trying to be deliberately pretentious or ambiguous. he truly wanted to share every bit of his thought process and his passions. i am genuinely inspired by the film and even more by this interview. i was stupid enough to not be familiar with his work and only thought of him as a raju hirani producer. but i am glad that now i will get to treat myself with all his previous work.
and of course baradwaj rangan caressed this interview in a way that only he can. what a duo. much love from Pakistan 🇵🇰
Such a wonderful interview. A great case study on how interviews need to be done. So many great insights into the making of a classic movie
What an amazing movie is 12th Fail! VVC is an amazing director and honestly his absence is somehow missed in Dunki! He could have taken that movie to another level.
Thanks for this interview, after watching 12th fail and crying a lot, was waiting to hear it from VVC. Absolutely loved that movie it reminds us of the black and white era’s masterpieces🙏🏻
Wow, when you know your craft and when the interviewer understands and asks such beautiful questions....wow
I somehow feel connected to protagonist watching real life Manoj interviews in Lallantop and ofcourse Vikas Divyakirti Sir. So, I was tracking the movie for a long time. Felt happy that it turned out so good. I absolutely loved the film.
Then I read a review, which is saying the only drawback of film is music. I was like what is he saying.
Thanks for the brilliant interview and pointing out so many intricacies of the movie.
What a great interview! Looking forward to this movie!
9:02 baddy peaked here
So lovely to see VVC enjoying a good conversation about his work.
This interview reminds me so much of Gulshan Grover character in Rangeela 😂
Nice observation..He is self certified genius. All directors in India go in the way. Outside, directors just making movies for 40 yrs, still sees youngsters as genius
Oh God❤❤❤ This is Classic interview 🎉
this man is truly great. I wanna have conversation with such people., more so with him-as he is welcoming to everybody.
I watched the film last night, and while I may not term it my favorite or say I unabashedly loved the film, I so enjoyed the intention behind the film. You could see it. Throughout. The film is about aspiration and determination, which when concocted in equal measures can result in heart pleasing success. Those some virtues, that ethos, is reflected in this interview. Again, I am not going to suddenly place Mr. Vidhu Vinod Chopra as 'The Best' out there or claim that I have seen all his films, but of the few I have, his love for the craft of storytelling is endearing. He makes memorable movies with love and without compromise. It takes aspiration and determination. That's why when Baddy says the film felt 'pure' I agree with him. It feels purely Indian. We are excessive people, we enjoy heightened drama and expression. You see how the parents and the grandmother emotes and reacts, its us. We exaggerate things and our emotions, our struggles (in general) are far from stoic. The film captures that so very well. It doesn't indulge in the excesses of the emotions present, it just hits the right notes. Others may use the term 'organic' but that seems like we're qualitatively describing a vegetable from Puro Fresh market. I think pure really is the word.
The distinguishing factor between an underdog film and a film about aspiration, for me, is that the underdog film is only about the triumph and a film like this is about the beginning of many more triumphs to come. I choose to believe that Manoj Kumar will remain true to his inner voice till he drops dead. That is great to feel and watch. It inspires you to stay true to who you are. Thank you Mr. VVC.
BR so correctly points out the chapped lips, the handheld, the rotatory movement and then the push in, the use of the music, all used so very well. One thing both of them, I felt didn't talk (enough) about was the editing. The film breaks its editing style in the final 'confrontation'. I say confrontation because Manoj is now coming face to face with the system, with those who can keep him at bay -- in short -- his fears (for lack of a better word). The editing there is drastically different. The slow reveals, the sustained two shots, the objectiveness is all gone. We are no more a fly on the wall. We go in between Manoj and the Chairman. We get jump cuts mid dialogue to create a fast tempo. We get Vaadh - Vivadh. This done to make you feel a sense of urgency and rush, that perhaps Manoj was feeling too at that point (at the restart of the interview) because albeit he has learnt things won't change and he has a life partner waiting out there for him, it still takes courage to face up to 5 esteemed panelists. And a similar kind of tension is felt by the opposing party (Chairman) whose authority and belief system is being shook. That for me, worked very well. It was a courageous move, wherein a filmmaker was ready to expose the seams of his craft to pin point his agenda. Never sell yourself short, immaterial of strong the opposition is. Going by the interview, and trusting Mr.VVC, that's perhaps what he felt when he was offered 10 lakh rupees to alter Parinda's ending.
A great film for film aspirants as well. Loads to learn. Loads to dissect. Lovely to see the subject matter and craft aligning so well.
Wow what a bful conversation between two people who appreciate the true craft of filmmaking! Lovely!
One of the best inspirational story Thanks movie director
One of the most greatest movies I’ve ever watched. Forget in a movie, it made me feel emotions that I never felt in my own life.
Such a touching and soul stirring movie without the usual movie props...Hats off VVC
Very good conversation between between a creative and critic. Enjoyed it. Thank you Baddy and VVC.
What an incredible interview!! So glad I watched this geniune conversation.
He is so honest on his words.
Just today I have watched the movie, absolutely loved it.. Respects to Vidhu Vinod Chopra for the movie and Baradwaj Rangan for this interview..
Certain flims will make you to watch again and again , every time when you watch it will convey you different meanings and emotions. This is one of those power packed emotions and goose bumps dialogues. Hugs and Big respect to VVC sir !
Wow ! What a treat...Wonderful interview. ...thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. Gratitude and Love 😊
