Just love the 59 Chevy's. My dad bought a new 59 Belair, and drove it till 1965. In 64 I bought a 1959 Impala sport coup, Grecian Gray with beautiful red and gray interior. It had been ordered with the 348 engine and Bog Warner 4-speed. The 348 was solid lifter, tri-power that was rated 335 horse power. What an absolute sleeper of such a beautiful car, I just loved that car, as it was very fast for the day, finally selling it in 1968. Looking back today, selling that 59 Impala was just about the stupidest thing I ever did. So many regrets in life, but that one was at the top of my list, if only?

Wow. Spoiled for choice - 3 El Caminos on the go at once! Who'd'a thunk it! Got to be the prettiest pick-up ever. Never seen one this side of the pond, but deserves to be put back to it's former glory.

Getting caught up on your El Camino vids. Love the commercial to start this one. You should never leave an engine (motors are electric) hanging from engine stand bolts ! It'll distort the bolt hole threads which may be why you can't rotate it. Those hubcaps are called " Baby Moons" . Peace Buddy ✌️😎👍

    Very nice project!
The 59 El Camino is one of my favourites.
Plus this one is not TOO rough, its doable, if u don't want to make it a councours winner😅
i think i remember in 1959 they hadnt have a 350cui, but a 283cui, so youre right, this engine is not the original 59, besides the Flexplate incident.
This thing would appear great with a Tonneau cover, when finished.
    Also saves the bed area.
Plus the Tube-grill is preferable over the original imho.

I am a ford guy but who couldn't love a El Camino, specially the 59 as it was first. I bought the ranchero that year and drove the wheels off of it. It had the little six cylinder engine as our town just catered to the six cylinder cars. I always stuffed the biggest motors I could in them and those first rancheros were on the falcon body style so a small v8 engine was all that fit. I don't know how you guys can work on them without cleaning them up first. I will watch for this one for sure

I would try to blend on a bit more paint with spray can to tops of fenders and quarters, take the patina back to what it might have been in the 9ez. Very nice ride. What you call rusty, I being in the east would call 99% rust free. Great ride sir. Thanks for sharing her.

I believe your El Camino was originally a six cylinder. The 283 cars have a V shaped moulding under the Chevrolet name on the hood. The 348 cars also had the V moulding and crossed flags. Maybe this didn't apply to the El's though. My brother had a two door hardtop '59 Impala, roughly 45 years ago , that we restored from fair to very good condition. Rebuilt the running 283 , and complete body and paint. The car was 18 years old when he bought it and had little rust, white with red interior. Very nice looking and running car that turned heads even back then.

Sooo... your heat will be lost through your walls. Get a few rolls of vusquen from a paint supply store. Put it on the ceiling and walls. It holds heat as long as you have a heat source.
Build those barn doors and put weather stripping on the opening to seal off the gaps that you will have. You can staple visquen to the inside of your doors and overlap the inside plastic from the doors onto the walls.
    It works really good.
I lived in Michigan for 43 years. I have a buddy that I helped restore his 74' Dodge Charger in his garage. The painting of the car was done in January when it was negative 10 for over a week and a half.
We used a torpedo heater and got the temperature to almost 90 degrees. When it warms up. You can turn off your heater. Have a thermometer available.
It will cost you for the plastic tape and glue gun a couple hundred bucks, but it is much better that running a heater where you have no heat at all from, and you are running up your utilities on electric. The glue gun is to attach your visquen to your walls.
If you do put in a like a potbelly stove for heat, the sell a product that comes in a roll that is like a 1/16 inch blotter paper from a fireplace dealer. Home Depot ND Lowes carry it, but call first. You can attach it to your wall behind the stove and can put you stove less than 22 inches from the wall. It works so well that when your stove/Heater is at it's hottest point. You can place you hand flat against the wall and leave it there. It will literally be cool to the touch. Put up some plywood on the wall, then you can staple the blotter paper to the wall. The other thing you will want to do is take some bricks and make a brick platform/harsh up under your stove. It will hold heat.
If need be, DM me. I can give a much better explanation to you.
We used the blotter paper in my parents garage. We had a pot belly stove in there, but we needed it to be close to the wall. We had dry wall but no insulation on them. The stove was about 8 or 9 inches from the wall.my dad used the stove to heat the garage throughout the winter to restore antiques as a hobby, and it was tight in there.

I look forward to seeing yours back on the road again. Something to consider is maybe adapting a S10 five speed transmission. That'll give you overdrive and make it more highway friendly, as well as improve fuel economy.

Looks like a very nice car start out. 59 Chevys are notorious for being rust bucket 🪣 s. Hopefully the X frame is good. So the 59 station wagon about 10 years ago. The guy knew exactly what he was getting and I really didn't want to sell it. I told him be sure to jack it up from the frame because otherwise you may just left the body right off of it. Now that's Rusty. Got four-door sedan that set propped up as a parts car by a relative of ours on the farm. Propped up by 55 gallon drum on back. I understand it was there for fifty years. So now we know how long it takes for a 55 gallon barrel to disintegrate. By the way the plugs were in the end. So now it's a good candidate for a builder. The rest is mainly on the front fenders on top because that's where the water flowed. I know you spoke with Ryan after reading the comments but like I said in reply to your reply. There's a salvage yard in the Southwest and they have very nice 59 Chevy bodies and parts. I apologize when I think of the name of it you. I actually edit this to get it shorter. My suggestion is to find other people on UA-cam and elsewhere who are building 59 Chevy cars of any type. Someone will know where the parts are that you want. After all they found parks that they did not buy. So those parts may be still available. I have subscribed. I'm curious to how this turns out.

Northwestern Arkansas is a great place if you find them up on top of a hill. Southeastern Kansas has to be the most fabulous place to find good old cars that aren't burnt by the Sun and not completely riddled by rust. Actually usually very little rust. Of course North Dakota South Dakota and Nebraska but they're far & few between. They often look burnt by the sun just like they are in the Southwest. I think you're up and under northwestern sector of the United States and up on the plateau east of the Rockies is a great place to find these old cars are that's the rumor least. I'm not saying there's 59 Chevy El caminos all over the place. Just happy hunting-grounds. I've always found that I research where the cars sold and high numbers and were manufactured. That often helps. I mean I polled countless 57 Chevy cars out of Kentucky Central of the state. Down around Abilene Texas but they're burnt to a crisp but they send out nicely and so you probably find body panels there. I'm assuming a station wagon rear quarter is somewhat interchangeable with the El Camino.
Well if you read all this great thank you there is one place above all that I can think of with the exception of that salvage yard out Southwest I forget the name of but I know who I can ask. Go to Craigslist. Sure you can do marketplace but who has these old cars old guys. Old guys tend to use Craigslist more than marketplace. Look at Springfield Missouri under under the car and car parts category. There's a man that part's out classic cars. He's always advertising on Craigslist. He has a very rough 57 two-door hardtop for $1950. He is completely all vintage. They are Rusty. I know where the 59 wagon setting. Private Yard Man had 500 but he has passed away and it's in the middle of a battle among three generations of people. Also a couple of neighbors and friends have gotten into it. By the way it's an original California black tag license plate car and it's been sitting there since the early 60s. Also look up Craigslist Lamar Missouri. Shots in the dark yes. There's a fella there that has 1750 cars scattered around his hundred acres. He has a number of old cars as well. I've not been to either one of these two places because rust is prevalent. The rest Ranch his name is Joe and he is tied in with Tim over at mr. Good pliers. I have his phone number. He has given me permission to give it out.

Hidden valley, Frank's Auto, desert valley, classic salvage yards in Arizona. I believe it was desert valley that I was trying to think of. See I'm looking for a hood for my 59 in the more I see the parts going sky-high the more I'm thinking maybe this would be a good donor car. After all that's what all family used it for since about 1970. There's one as a fella that I know that had 150 1959 Chevy's before the tornado came through and wiped it out. He still has 59 Chevy parts and is willing to sell me a hood I believe. I just have to get back to him and he several hours away. He's in the midwest. I can ask him and he made me show me some of what he has left. He went a whole nother direction after the tornado wiped out of stock. Okay I've got two lynx I'll send you and then I'll let it be.

And that should take you to Denny's Savage's bring them back alive UA-cam channel. Subscribe to him so you can go back and research. He was out in Colorado several months ago and that lady her husband passed away and she had a very nice collection of parts and builders. I'm not saying she had a 59 Chevy El Camino but which assortment she had there's a chance.
John's Salvage in Texas. Good possibility.

Okay that will show you the one that I have on my video shorts. I like the old rusty stuff. Vince Neil get to some of my nice stuff. By the way your refurbished church school bus and the reunions picture I like it. If an old car guy can't help out another old car guy then what good are we. Have a nice day and the only reason I've got time to do this right now is it's not worth me going outside in single-digit weather ☁️. But I better get back to the work I need you on my computer

Just last week found a 1959 El Camino being restored in Bangkok. He put 327 in it and rumbles pretty good. Don't know where he's getting his parts but at least the windshield he's having one made here. I made a little video of it on my channel.

@@CountryBoyGasGarage this fella out in Arizona that is about done with his 60 El Camino. He would be a better source for parts possibly. The three that to say the guy mentioned. Ryan's car generally has too much rust in them. Tim AKA Mr goodpliers I've been to his place. Now he has multiple locations and I did not see the all. He has a pretty good Network for selling his 59 s. He did have a 60 Ford or I believe it was said in their head buried back in there. He wouldn't you interested in digging it out and was going to charge me an extra price cuz he had to dig it out. He was receptive to the idea of us helping him move things around to get the car out. But I can tell you I did not see a 59 El Camino. Now Silas over at adventures made from scratch. He always seems to have more than what it shows. The only contact I've had with him is comments and replies back and forth between him and I. With him I think a helpful idea would be if you offered to go there and take apart off because he is so busy with so many things. I've seen a number of these 59s sitting around and El caminos on different UA-cam channels in the background junk yards. They are around.

@Brian Hayes......these cars have "wings" - not fins. Wings go out, side to side (horizontal). Fins go up and down (vertical). Learn the correct description, or look like a fool.

If those ram horn manifolds are for a smallblock, they'll work great on that 350. I hear they're the next best thing to headers, especially if the outlet is 2.5 inches. I wouldn't be surprised if your car came with a 283 originally. That was the only small block V8 offering then. Only other options according to Google wee a 235 inline 6 or 348 big block V8. The 348 usually came with 4-speed floor shift. Nice old car.

No v trim on the front of the hood...I'd wager it was a 235 inline 6. Many of those came with the 3 speed saginaw.

Someone could do pretty well for themselves by recreating those headlight buckets in hard plastic with a 3D printer! I have a `59 Biscayne, in roughly the same condition. I bought every headlight bucket I could find for it about 20 years ago. Even started to make a wooden buck to create replacements about of metal. Can be done! Hopefully someday, "Big Daddy" the `59 Biscayne will be in roadworthy condition to come down from Seattle to visit the Camino!

Cool Video Jason! I really dig the 59 Elcamino. I believe the seat is stock 59 chevy but not impala, they have chrome on the sides. Your rearend sounds like bad spider gears but could be a bad bearing somewhere. There pretty easy to tear down and check. As long as the engine is good you just need a flywheel and v8 bell housing and you'll be able to use the stock 3 speed on it. Your editing is sweet man I really enjoy it. Have a good one Buddy 👍
