    Love the red! I have my dad's 59 he bought in 1960 after it had been in an accident. He fixed it up and drove it for several years then parked it, now it is my turn to fix it up and put it back on the road. These are such cool vehicles because of the character, there is just so much to soak in when looking at all those curves and lines.

    59 and 78 are my favorite years. My first car was a 78 El Camino. 59 is on my bucket list. Gorgeous car and really neat upgrades!

    Bought a 59 ragtop in the summer of '68. Fresh Roman red paint, 283 powerglide. She was a beauty. Had to borrow the money from my grandpa to pay the $300 asking price.(ya, 3hundred). If we only knew. Grown to love the '59 elky almost as much.

    I had two of those back in the day. In the 60s you could find them anywhere for cheap to. I had a black on and a blue one both had 6 bangs with 3 on the three.

    I’m old enough to remember these on the street and I thought they were the ugliest thing in the world. I loved the 59 “angry” Buicks. Now that I’ve grown older and wiser (ha!) I’ve loved these great cars for quite some time.

    My favorite thing about the 59 El Camino is the flying buttress roof ! which Chevrolet kept on all the 4 door Corvairs till 1964, it went away on the full size Chevrolet after 1961.& of course the cats eye taillights .The 60 was cool because of the jet age, & the way Chevrolet incorporated into all the side panels of the full size Chevrolet & this would be a 1 year only styling! thanks for the video & again that's a beautiful 59 El Camino

    Great video, love 💘 the '59 El Camino!! As I mentioned my aunt and uncle had the El Camino and the Parkwood wagon in copper and white but I think they had the full wheel covers 🤔 not like the ones on this? Looks awesome though, thanks for sharing and as always "Howdy from Texas "!!

    Nice '59! I had a '68 SS396 for around 11 years; red with a black vinyl top. The El Camino is a great American car/truck. Always thought a '61 or '62 would have looked cool IF they had built them.

    Was the '59 (and '60) El Camino based off of the mid-level Bel Air, or the entry level Biscayne? I suspect the latter. Still, it has a few touches of Impala per mentions.

    Original clutch, 283, wiper motor etc.worked just fine on the 59’s. Go ahead and add the new gee gaws it’s your car but you’re not giving the designers or the car credit when you talk shit about original components.

    I can't for the life of me figure out why anybody wants a serpentine belt. There are three extra pulleys on that set up to go bad and then they do, you loose everything.

      @IowaClassicCars  3 роки тому

      Modern thats why

    • @mexicanspec

    • @IowaClassicCars

      Yeah it is, one belt vs 3, i mean i think its an advancement anyways lol

    • @mexicanspec
      @mexicanspec 3 роки тому +2

      @@IowaClassicCars When you lose this one belt, you lose everything. When you lose a power steering belt on an old car you can still drive home. Plus, as I mentioned in my first comment, there are three extra pulleys that will fail and cause problems that old cars don't have. I don't see it as an advancement.

      @@mexicanspec I picked up a SW '72 Cheyenne in AZ and drove it back to WA. It was a serpentine conversion on a factory A/C truck. Long story short, the A/C compressor froze and the belt broke. This was late on a Saturday and we had NO options. Ordinarily we could have simply cut the A/C belt but not with a one belt set up. You have to live it to understand it. What a nightmare, you are spot on correct.

      This 59 er wasn’t supposed to be beautiful in color, it was meant to be a workhorse. Now that it’s still around you could say that could have painted it a different color.
