THE MOST REMOTE CASTLE IN BRITAIN!

- Опубліковано 27 жов 2021
- Found incredibly north in Britain on a tiny island where under 200 people live, is Brochel Castle. It's considered by some to be the most remote castle in Britain. To access the Isle of Raasay you need to board a ferry, and there are literally no shops and very few amenities on the island. You then have to travel along the single-track rather scary roads to get to Brochel Castle which is found in the north-west corner of the island. It's a beautiful and remarkable ruin, but a castle that is steeped in Clan History.
It was owned and created by the MacLeod clan and the Chief Callum who set up a small castle for himself to keep an eye on the local pirate activity which was occurring in the waters nearby. The MacLeod's owned a huge amount of land in the north of Scotland including several isles, and Brochel was a multiple storey castle with four towers, all built for defence and protection. However today it's incredibly ruined and is a site which is literally falling into the sea. Because of the weather and the ruins, there will be a point very soon where Brochel Castle will simply fall, and over 500 years of history will be lost.
So join us today as we look at, 'THE MOST REMOTE CASTLE IN BRITAIN!'

Sad it's not been preserved, looks like a beautiful location.
Good video, do love a castle.🏰
Cheers Mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Steve!
Many of the castle ruins of my german homeregion have similar size and also they are similar build on much higher rocks or the clifflike northern end of Swabian Alb plateau.
Why should it be preserved….. god should not be so evil with his childish weather
This castle reminds me of the one off the Highlander film where Conner Macleod lived with Blossom after his exile from Eilean Donan
I went here in July this year (2021) and it was beautiful. A bit of a trek from the ferry down the single track roads, but it was most definitely worth it, and it was a very scenic route. I think rumour has it that Bonnie Prince Charles stayed here for a few days in the aftermath of Culloden. A truly wonderful little known castle. It's still beautiful even in its state of disrepair.
Love all the work you do mate, but this is exactly what I’ve been missing! Love the castles and exploration! Well done lad💙😎
Couldn't agree more, castles and ruins are epic!
More coming! :)
@@TheFortress when you talk can you stop speaking in short sentences. It drives me crazy and puts me off every one of your videos. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
My favorite type of videos that you do!! Beautiful castle!
Another coming up tomorrow! Just finished making a video on possibly the most beautiful castle in the world!
Absolutely fantastic video, so smooth and great to watch. Love the information, thank you for sharing this, it's great to be able to walk around ruins/historical places virtually that we cant get to at the moment, but it for sure is on our list! Thanks again, new fan here :D

Proud MacLeod decendant of Waternish, Isle of Skye.
Loud McLeod from Lewes! :D
Excellent vid!
I've never heard of this castle before interesting content
Great. Good research.
Superb! A great channel like your other one!!! 👌👌👌👌👌
Thanks mate :)
Interesting vid. Might I suggest; (a) a map, and ; (b) some drone shots.. For the malcontents below 'Britain' encompasses the area shown and is not a political but a geographic entity.
Great! :)
This is a great supplement to the other channel.
Thanks Thomas!
I visit that castle via sea kayak a couple years ago. It’s a beautiful place.
Anyone else get major Winterhold vibes from this castle?
I immediately want to live there.
I am just here for the Highlander comments!!! 🤠👍
For those confused among the group, Scotland is a country, Britain is the ISLAND that Scotland is in.
Wish I could see the beauty - it gives me the creeps. I've slept a few nights in the turret of a 13th century castle (used to be able to rent that particular castle, Caversall Castle) and loved looking round as a child and as an adult too - castles can be fascinating - but I find it hard to bother going to look at a heap of rubble that looks ready to collapse on some kid, unaware of the danger. You wouldn't wanna get stuck there. That's when you appreciate street lights, as I discovered to my cost, trying to make my way home at 3am from that other castle - a 2 mile trek to my car in pitch darkness, arms outstretched like a ghost, until someone's security light came on and I got my bearings again - all I needed was a suit of armour to scare everyone to death if they caught me on security camera. .
Isle of Skye, Isle of Rasay, Orkney Scotland.
Such a shame it's a ruin.🏰
Honestly, it was a remarkable place to visit. Such a difficult place to get to, but so worth the visit.
How do the 200 people live on this island?
Friend, the videos are highly interesting and informative, however the narration is too monotonic and it takes the fun out of listening to the information being read. Other than that, I can see that you do your research meticulously and in depth and I commend you for it.
It's not monotone; the inflexion is wrong so hard to listen to. The content is good though.
30 years ago I lived in edinburgh and I met some folk who lived on raasay but they were american immigrants so frankly I didn't think much of them.
@@timetraveler333 too many yank immigrants in Scotland
@@timetraveler333 It's a form of prejudice. Too many people here shit on Americans and think it's fine.. but then throw a tantrum when they do it to us.
@@jpaulc441 probably comes down to some cultural differences, also the American education system is crap so whenever they leave the place they don't know their head from their arse which makes them look stupid, nothing wrong with them as people

A new lifelong retreat for Prince Andrew?
In its heyday, Brochel would have been far from remote. All travel was done by boat. Read the poem, "Clanranald's Birlinn".
I didn't realize the hovercraft service had ended that early.
No way I went there on holiday and we drove to the castle and we were driving back and puncherd 2 tyres and them we changed 1 tyre to the spare then puncherd that aswell
A gin distillery you say...?
The witcher 3 castle!
Critchon castle?
Brochel castle.
Cassole... Rassaaaaaaaaaay....
That's my Scottish ancestors stomping ground!
Wonder if it's haunted.
Britain really, Britain stops at the border
It's in Scotland btw
It’s not a castle it’s a ruin
Nice video, which I enjoyed. I would suggest editing the description, as it contains a few inaccuracies . Sorry to nitpick, but you still have time to correct this before someone less polite dumps on you…. The castle is not on North west of Ramsay, it is on the East coast approximately 4.5M from the most northern point of Ramsay, which is about 11.4M long,. When you say “incredibly north”; and assuming you mean British Isles, then it is not even that far North as % of total length. “Most remote castle in Britain” is rather subjective and not very convincing if you can drive a car to it or you happen to live nearby on Ramsay. It’s a relative term in this case. You could say it’s a long way from a city. There are other castles in the British Isles that you cannot get to by car and are in uninhabited areas. I Hope you continue to make these videos, but urge you to be careful with titles and descriptions before someone is even ruder than me.
It's Raasay not Ramsay
@@peterdawe1 I was wondering when someone would spot that (not!)… well that blows my credibility. If only I could correct the comment. I am going to blame spell auto correct on my machine. Well I would say that. Raasay, forgive me. I think this proves how easy it is to make basic mistakes.
@@Spearax why don't you self-edit before pressing send?
@@peterdawe1 That sounded critical. If my spelling mistake upset you, that was never my intention. Sorry!
@@Spearax I wasn't being critical. As a fellow nit-picker I thought you'd appreciate a constructive suggestion.
Hey Elon and Mr Bill Gates…may I have a few hundred million dollars to remodel this castle. What a shame. This was around during Henry the Eight.what a shame!
Lets be real... this castle is no longer a castle and is just a ruin... it was allowed to fall too much in disrepair. So little is left that a restoration is impossible, it would be a rebuild.
It's sad, you can see lots of the castles stones on that beach, "nature does not like straight lines" and they are pretty much useless due to the damage to them.
A beautiful location too :(
a hotel and a gin distillery haha
Cairnburgh Castle is way more remote
It’s in Scotland squeaky.
lots of stone was removed from castles forts and other derelict fortresses etc, people removed stones and timbers to build homes, shelters and buildings in order to sustain a living and settle..
no it's not- suggest that you look further north
thys is not in britain this is scitish castel and there is nothing common with britain this castel is located in Raasay island
Scotland is Britian
Indeed , when the English use the word Britain they mean England

I'm a Samuel Seabury descendant if you the British government will give me amnesty and diplomatic immunity and escape from my so called united states citizenship as well as enforce restoration and restitution of damages the united states government has caused or allowed to happen to me I will restore and maintain that castle. PS my cross beaked Americana hen Izzy and my sultan pullet Sophia are non negotiable they come with me every where.
You need to learn how to pronounce Brochel. You make it sound too much like brothel.
